Pete from Leisure Time Inc. gets a service call to diagnose and repair a Hot Spring Hot Spot Rhythm hot tub. The display was showing double dashes across the screen, indicating a problem with the pressure switch. There was also a small leak coming from the pressure switch. Pete shows how to replace the pressure switch without even having to drain and refill the tub. He also reprogrammed the circuit board to work correctly with the pumps.

Fantastic video and guidance. Key helpful notes you addressed. 1) cover the circuit board as water does spray all over. 2.) how to determine the issue is the pressure sensor with a multimeter. One other key video showed how to by-pass the pressure sensor by creating a loop with a thin piece of wire. That step confirmed it was 100% my pressure sensor. With your guidance, fixed my hot tub and saved $$$$. THANK YOU again!

Thanks for the great video. I've found on working on my exact hot tub the most difficult part of any repair is getting those @$%%$@@$ cover panels off and back on. It's a nice tub but those panels were designed by a madman! Whenever I replace the panels I reinstall fewer and fewer screws. Duct tape to the rescue!!!

Thankyou for this video. Followed the video to the letter and got the tub up and running again , Over night it got to 31 deg then got the dashes again ……. So back to testing to see if the new ones faulty ? Anything else that can cause the the dashes to appear ?

This is so step-by-step and helpful... thank you! Have a Hot Spot TX that had the double yellow lines. Figured it was a bad switch so got a new one and installed it and... same. When I turn it on and turn on the circ pump, I can definitely feel/hear circulation through the heater manifold. If I short the circuit the heater does turn on, so it doesn't seem like a board issue. What do you think: bad replacement switch, or...?

Woah that disconnect is so close to the tub.. 5' minimum! Also, why not just disconnect the switch from the harness, and read continuity when the pump is on then off? Seems much simpler. Measuring continuity with a powered circuit will fool your meter. Thanks for the post. As a side note, I bought a new $60 switch, and turned it in by hand, and the damn thing just snapped off in the hole. I ended up buying a plastic compression to 1/8NPT fitting, and modifying it to accept the busted switch, then JB welded the whole thing together. Turned it in with very little force, it seems to be holding.

You have probably received your new switch already, but bypassing it is typically only used for testing purposes, you might receive other error codes with the bypassed.

Great video, thank you! Ive replaced my switch before and did the exact same thing. I have a question though......roughly how much should a spa cost to run (monthly)? My electric bill is between $70-80 more each month since getting the spa. Everyone I talked to said it should be between $20-30. I have noticed the spa comes on more than twice a day. Is there something I can check or change to minimize that? It is a 2019 Caldera spa (2 pumps) and both pumps are set to 30 mins each. I'm in AZ so it doesn't get very cold. I set it to 102 on the weekends and back to 84 during the week.

The cost of electricity can vary depending on where you’re at and how your hot tub is set up. For instance 220 V is more efficient than 110 V. You can also check your filtration cycles. It’s more efficient for the hot tub to maintain a temperature rather than to keep turning it down and back up again perhaps that’s part of the problem.

Yes, depending on what the error code is. Can you give me a picture of the error? There are a single row of dashes with an asterisks and a double row of dashes…

how do you test if the board is bad or if the heating jet pump is bad after installing a new pressure switch

A voltage test at the jet pump terminal should tell you which is bad. First determine if the pump is suppose to be receiving 110vac or 240vac. If your spa is a Rhythm or Relay like in the video then it should be getting 240v. Turn on the pump and and test voltage at the black and white wires. If there’s no voltage or anything less than 220 then the board is bad but if you’re getting the correct voltage but the pump isn’t turning on the it’s probably the pump.

@@peteworle it was the row of single dashed lines, with the flashing POWER symbol. None of the buttons would work. But, for some reason, the error disappeared after some time and the hot tub is working fine now and has been for the last 3 days. I'm very grateful for your very clear video. This was a straight forward repair and saved me a lot in repairs.

The single row of dashes is a sensor issue. There are 2 sensors for temperature, one in the tub testing the water temperature and one on the heater manifold testing for hi-limit or if the water in the heater is getting too hot. If there is too much of a resistance between the two sensors than the row of single dashes will appear.

Hey, great how to video. I did exactly like the video said, but I am still getting an alert on ohms when the pump is not running and the power is on. It’s a brand new pressure switch, but same alert as the old switch. Any suggestions?

Yes it will. The pressure switch is there to ensure there is flow through the heater before it will let it energize.

Hello, My Spa hot spot SX does not heat above 33 degrees. The screen shows a double line of hyphens but everything else works. At speed 2 it shows the degrees again and the dashes disappear. According to the instructions, the pressure switch is open instead of closed. The filter is not blocked, but the problem remains the same, even without the filter. I switched it off and on again a few minutes later but the problem is still there. Do you think it's the pressure switch that's faulty? Yes that is still a pressure switch issue. The error for the pressure switch being closed when it should be open is * ====

Service tech here. How do we go about reprogramming the board to allow jet/pump 2 to run. On our 3rd press I just hear a loud humming sound.

This doesn’t sound like a programming issue, it sounds more like a circuit board malfunction. A relay on the circuit board is sending power to both the high speed and the low speed of the pump. I would recommend temporarily disconnecting the high speed wire from the board until you can get the circuit board replaced.

Jumping the pressure switch is only a temporary fix to confirm that it’s not working. If that is the problem you have to replace the pressure switch, if then we will move on to the next test. I will need to know exactly what the spa is doing, and what is showing up on the topside.

Make sure the filter isn't dirty. Additionally, make sure the pump is staying on and working properly.
