Hot Tub Not Heating | Replacing the Main Control Board. This is a 2005 Caldera Hawaiian Paradise hot tub. How to replace the Main Control Board. The tub tripped the main GCFI on the Heater side. This video shows how I diagnosed the problem and how to replace the Main Control Board.

I'm not so sure the power supply you showed with the "blobs" is faulty due to the blobs. If you look at your June 2015 video you can see them there. I have the same thing on my board and I have seen this used many times when glue is used to bond the components and everything together especially capacitors that stand up off the board on power supplies like this, (usually clear not black). Not saying the PS is not bad but you can check the voltage between the 5 pins on the right side of the PS for 20v, 9v, 5v, 12v to GD. Obviously you made the correct call to replace the motherboard but I suspect the problem elsewhere on it. Your videos are excellent, precise and clear for helping people narrow down the problem.

Hi Glenn. Thank you for watching and commenting. I know they use a glue material for that application. However, there was an odor of burnt plastic or Bakelite at that location plus I could see burn marks on the circuit board under that location by using a dental mirror. One day when I have time, I will test the suspected components at that location. I actually attempted to test the voltage on the pins however, the main breaker kept tripping and wouldn’t allow the board to maintain power long enough to test. I may try to order the same components, desolder and replace them. I’ll make an attempt to repair the board and will certainly shoot a video on that. Thank you for watching. Stay safe. Appreciate your support!!!

Chances are that big capacitor burned up. I seen several of those big capacitors on those boards burn at one of the legs.

I agree. I’m suspicious of the capacitors as well. Thank you for watching. Happy Easter!

Hi there again, still trying to work out if my heater is needed replacing or not. Have the balboa system here in Sweden without the pressure switch. Has the sensors on either side. Hot tub down to only 17 degrees now, it has become cold minus 7. I don't know if there is some built-in freeze safeguard. I am guessing that the heat maintained is just coming from the pump. I have done some more tests today. There is power 230v going to the circuit board, but not 230v going to the element. I have done the continuity test or ohms test with the power turned off, with a multimeter put it on the 0L setting. It said 0 reading. Then l put it on a setting to bleep, not sure if it was the right setting, still was 0L and then it read 19 ish. Does this sound more like a relay problem or is there a possibility that it might still just need a new heater replacement? I am thinking if I did not have 230v going to the element, then a new one can not suddenly give 230vs or ??? No errors on the display panel either.

Thanks again for a great video. Trying to fix a Tiger River Bengal that doesn't power up its jet pump. Oddly, all other accessories/sensors connected to the main board work just fine; it's just the jet pump that won't power. Multimeter shows no power at the pins when it's turned on, so I'm thinking it might be the relays. I'll be desoldering/resoldering the Jet Pump 2 relays onto Jet Pump 1 and see if that does the trick (I have no 2nd pump, so they're doing nothing.) Worse comes to worse, I'm replacing the board.

I’m thinking it might be the relays also. Let us know what you found out after your repair.

@@SmokinwithKasket unfortunately, it wasn't the relays. The measured resistance seemed high, but it was enough to still transfer power over. Waiting for warmer weather to dig into the pump (currently teens-20s in the forecast)

Hopefully you won’t get any freeze damage. Sorry to hear you haven’t been able to fix the problem. Let me know what the final issue was. All the Best-

If no volts is going to the spades when the pump is suppose to be on, it should be the relay. Double check the relays for pump one. I believe it uses two relays, one for the hot wire and one for common/ neutral wire. The relays for the circ pump should be the same as the relays for pump one. Double check the voltage rating for pump one and the circ pump. If they are the same voltage rating. Plug pump one into the circ pump terminals (TAKE PICTURES for the white and black wire) then power on the spa. The pump should come on. Turn off the shortly after. This is only to test and make sure pump one is good or bad.

Wow, very insightful… Is there a way to identify if I can just buy the circuitboard? I have a caldera elations… Is there a way to identify the manufacturing year?

All that black stuff between those caps is glue to hold them sturdy. thats all supposed to be there.

Hi William I have replaced both heater relay board and main pcb as spa previously lost pump 1 and pump 2 on a 2007 paradise series Martique. Relay clicked when you pushed the jets 1 and jets 2 button on topside however no voltage over live and neutral on either pump 1 and pump 2 on main pcb. Now new pcb's have been replaced I am getting 4 flashing lines on topside, any ideas? no air lock, hi limit replaced on heater replaced and sensor in spa and pressure switch replaced. Help!!!!!

I hope you set the proper voltage on the relay board. You may have damaged something if you didn’t. Otherwise, recheck all your connections especially the main going into the tub from outside. Could be a faulty board you purchased. I’m sorry. Your situation is a head scratcher. You may need a tech to come out before you start pumping money into it not knowing the real diagnosis. I’m sorry. I wasn’t much help with your predicament. Let us know what you found.

I have a Balboa 54379 board that shows 188 on topside when powered on. Hot tub does nothing. Any idea what this may indicate. There's no visual damage on the front of the board, all fuses have 120VAC except F1 shows 13VAC

Check the back of the board and see if you have any burnt areas. You could have an issue with your main board.

I’m running into a similar problem, and coincidentally after a heavy rain event. My breakers aren’t tripping though. I’m thinking it could be the heater relay board, but I get voltage towards the heater. Any clues?
@SmokinwithKasket
@SmokinwithKasket 3 года назад
Are you getting the full 240 volts?
@carlosluislau4721
@carlosluislau4721 3 года назад
@@SmokinwithKasket I am not getting the 240. I actually had someone come (through home warranty) and they claim is both the heater board and the main control board. But I can’t see how the main control board is also damaged if everything works except for the heater. And I tested the heater element as well and it seems ok. He mentioned that neither the relay board or the main board are sending the right voltage. Not sure how to test the board for that. Any thoughts?

I don’t believe that’s true that the mother board is bad. If the technician want a hot tub technician then ide seek another opinion. Make sure your micro switches are set correctly. I talk about that in my latest video about replacing the mother board. But since yours was working then it failed I still suspect the relay board.
@carlosluislau4721
@carlosluislau4721 3 года назад
@@SmokinwithKasket he was a pool/spa technician that the home warranty sent. And shocker, the warranty doesn’t cover the main board. I took the relay board out and there is in fact a burnt spot on the back, just like on your first heater relay video... My concern is replacing it and there being something else that caused the relay board to get damaged to begin with. I would like to solve that first. Those boards are not cheap.

Got a Jacuzzi J-345 giving “COMM ERROR” and nothing else happening since Lightning struck nearby. Anyone know what this is?
@SmokinwithKasket
@SmokinwithKasket 9 месяцев назад
So sorry to hear that you had that problem. Lightning scares the heck out of me and I’m paranoid so I usually if I can shut the main breakers off if I know there’s a storm coming or a storm in the area. It sounds like it could be your main board, because that’s normally an indication that sensors aren’t sending or the main board isn’t receiving information from sensors like your temperature sensor, etc. try a complete reboot but first disconnect all your peripherals like your pump motors your temperature sensor your light everything that’s connected to your board, unplug it then turn your breaker on and see what happens. If you’re still getting the COMM ERROR then it sounds like it could be either the main board or the control panel.
