It would have improved the movie if they actually followed through with the lesson of the movie by having Dennis be a true human, and Dracula and Vlad learning to accept it. I do agree, having Dennis be a vampire the entire time goes against the moral of the movie and the key events that happened before that moment.

Might as well have been "We'll accept whatever you are." It would have kept the message intact. But honestly, the way they did it makes it feel like a ripoff of Dragon Ball Z. SPOILERS See, Dennis only goes vampire mode after Vlad hurts his best friend. Doesn't that remind you of when Gohan goes Super when Cell kills Android 16? Did they intentionally do that? Or is it just a cliche?

+TDF9055 Want to know something also bad? They just announced today that SPA is making an animated Ghostbusters movie. Yes it does have Ivan Reitman, the original director back, but it's a Sony Pictures Animated film. Can't say that inspires a lot of hope for me.

Tyler R I'm not a fan of Ghostbusters as I haven't seen it yet (but I really, REALLY want to), so I don't really have an opinion on an animated movie. But I will say that it is ridiculous to have 3 Ghostbusters movies planned at the same time. Because having multiple movies planned at the same time worked so well last time, didn't it Amazing Spider-Man?

I know a lot of people hate the upcoming film already because its all woman, and while that fact does kinda bother me in how kinda pointless it is, that's not my beef with it. I simply think there should be no more films since one of the main actors died last year. It's like making a Godfather sequel without Al Pachino. So I just hate Sony for what they are doing, they are already making three films without knowing if any of them will be successful. And yes, it DOES remind me of what they did with the Amazing Spiderman series

I'm completely on your side there. It's not about if CG can be cartoony or not in general, it's how WELL it can be cartoony. In fact, I showed a great example of cartoony CG animation with Inside Out. That's how you do it right! As for hand drawn, it will happen one day that the animation medium will return to the big screen, it will just take time to find the group of people in the bug leagues who would be willing to say, "let's do it!"

+ElectricDragon505 I don't mind if CG is overly cartoony if the jokes and tone match the animation. The first movie got this down pat, leading to it being absolutely hilarious with some great slapstick and quick well timed moments (in my opinion). In this, it only works a few times, while everything else is verbal, which not only doesn't fit the animation, but isn't funny enough for me to forgive it.

+Oliver Engloid I actually think Sony's animation in HT is pretty good. The Cloudy movies take the "cartooniness" so far that it's actually kind of nauseating to watch, but I think HT does it pretty well. The problem with HT's art is that the designs, with a few exceptions, range from being kind of bland to a little childish, which just makes the rest of the movie look not as good as it could. If I just look at a poster for the movie, I can't help but feel that it just looks a little less... professional than most animated movies.

I think it's funny how Hotel Transylvania is 3D and made to be more "saturday morning cartoon" whilr Eight Crazy Nights uses 2D animation and tried to use the "realistic" movements Matt was talking about

This. While I still liked Hotel Transylvania and Sony's other movies such as Cloudy and Athur Christmas, Sony should have been making more games than movies.

crcoghill Agreed. But I think it's more to do with Pixar has an understanding of how cartoon animation works, at least from his point of view. I personally think that, despite the story for Hotel Transylvania being utter shit, the actual animation is competently put together. I mean, the animators use squash and stretch to its full potential, as well as every facial expression matching the tone of both the characters and the story.

crcoghill That's fair enough. I think that a film should be judged by its story above anything else. Yes, for an animated film, the animation is important, otherwise it may as well be live action, but, as Pixar, DreamWorks and Disney have all said, story is the most important part of a film.

+Jonny Boy Well I have a suggestion to find some good Animated Films.. Maybe watch some Foreign Animated Films from companies like Sudio Ghibli? I hear that they make great Animated Films and there's always Pixar and Disney for me to trust with good Animated FIlms. And it seems like American made Animated Films fall into the same trap most of the time. And that is they try to be cool and hip and with times but in reality the films end up pretty terrible because of that. And honestly I didn't give a damn to see this film I was watching Avatar The Last Airbender Episodes to care this movie was being made by Sony. And I remembered I was boycotting them in general PS4? Yeah I boycotted that, their films? Yes especially these crappy films, Their PS VITA? Yes because at this point the handheld is dead in the west anyways etc. Plus I gotta say this film's Animation is childish and there is a difference between stylized and being childish. Being Childish Animation is making the animation cheap,moving the characters in a spastic way that annoys your eyes, (No seriously it annoys me a lot. The best things about Animated Films and TV Shows IMO are the times when oddly characters don't move/and or sparring with the character's body moments and they have their quiet moments where a character thinks about something or they have a flash back to make them human and/or relatable to the audience again Avatar The Last Airbender a TV Show meant for kids has these moments and it makes me respect the show because it's not random crap on the screen for kids. Sony's Animated Movies on the other hand just make the characters move all over the damn place like as if all the characters are spazzes that can't stop moving for just one damn second. Like I am sorry to anyone who like these films but I can't take that kind of Animation seriously when it comes to their Animated Films.) making the characters look goofy and silly to the point I can't take the characters seriously, and so on. And a stylized look is something like for example an Anime Style,(Teen Titans and Avatar The Last Airbender) a Package Film kind of style,(Like Fantasia/Fantasia 2000) or something that has a lot more dignity than this film and Sony's Animated Films in general. I wouldn't say that Sony's Animated Films had a style rather they're more like Pop Corn Films.(Cheap but fun I guess.:/ Kinda like Micheal Bay films in a way) But it's definitely has no dignity. But I will say Johnny that the best course of action right now is just ignore Sony's Animated Films in fact don't even give them the attention. Just ignore their films they're just stupid/silly films with no serious moments nor any Human Emotions in them. I am gonna throw them under popcorn films stupid films but entertaining at the same time.

Super Gamer61499 I'd put Sony Animated Films under cash grabs. The kind of films that you can find on DVD in cheap convienient stores and $5 bargain bins. Also, handheld systems are not dead. We still have the Nintendo 3DS. Also, there are times where we do need to laugh at times, which is why I watch shows like Spongebob, Ren and Stimpy, The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, Total Drama Island, The Simpsons, South Park, Beavis and Butthead, and Ed Edd n Eddy. But, I do have a soft spot for some action shows with investing plots like Codename Kids Next Door, Transformers, My Life as a Teenage Robot, and my all time favorite Ben 10 Alien Force.

I think it was well balanced in that film compared to most Animated Films now.) and so on. That's what I am looking for in a Animated Film. Not generic Kids Animated Film crap that's trying to be cool and hip but in reality will be dated in a few years. *I am looking at you 2012 Lorax film. Way better than stuff like Nut Job or the Planes movies by a long shot for me although it's kind of like comparing The God Father to a Adam Sandler movie. Of course the God Father will be a better film than any of the Adam Sandler Movies.) But I guess in a Animated Film I am looking for a balance between being fun but also being mature enough to make me give a damn what's gonna happen in the film and what's going on with the characters. I remember a quote from somebody that said that:"Just because it's for Kids specifically doesn't excuse it for being a bad film." I forgot who said that but whoever said that had a point.

Super Gamer61499 I don't care how I would like my animated films, as long as it has some form of appeal and works in its own right and getting so much praise that I am willing to give the movie a chance. And Hotel Transylvania 2 is not one of them. But, Kung Fu Panda 3, and Disney's Zootopia and Moana are so on my list.

You laughed from THAT! Okay, maybe I am ths oldest here. But now seriously, my mom did laughed at times.

I don't think Genndy is in the wrong for the faults in this movie, I just think that he didn't like animating this script. He is one of the great animation legends of our time and tried to put as much effort into a script that he didn't have control of. Hopefully his Popeye Movie and Can You Imagine with be good films. And as for this franchise maybe we can get a director with similar taste but as much heart and effort as the 1st HT
