Gisselle, wanted to drop by and say thank you. We were less than a week from our trip to Egypt when we saw your video that as Canadians, we were no longer able to get visa on arrival. We panicked, but were able to show up in person to an embassy to get our visas last minute. If not for your video, we would've missed out on a trip of our lifetime! Thanks! Egypt was amazing!
Oh wow, just in the nick of time! 😮 So happy you saw that video 😅 And really happy you were able to make it and enjoyed your time! Egypt is amazing, absolutely love it ❤❤❤
This is a fab video G, I've been looking to book in this area so great to see them up close. 😊 You work so hard showing us the realness. 🙌 Keep it up and THANK YOU! maz
Hi Gisselle I'm egyption and i actually knew about ur channel i saw it before and i really like u and ur channel so much i really feels happy when i see u happy in egypt and I'm from cairo so if u wanted any help i will be glad to help u 🩶🩶
Thanks for this video. It was a great help in understanding the area. I booked a stay at the giza pyramid view inn for mid September. It was truly helpful in you showing the rooms there. Now I know I made the right choice Overall awesome video.
I need to say that all of this hotels were originally an old houses but its owners turned it into some kind of hotels bcoz it's bring more profit to them, I believe that the govt is about to build a dedicated hotels around as a part of Khufu Avenue project, but you did a Good job Gisselle, very helpful indeed! 👌👍
Not that cold, I've just acclimated 😅 Right now it's 19c and 7pm. But it's not hot. In the mornings and at night it's definitely jacket weather, in the afternoon too for me, unless I'm moving around a lot
The guys in that shop actually seemed quite friendly as far as Egypt shop owners go. A lot don’t seem to understand that being pressured to death just puts people off.
I can't be sure, it looked like it said some sort of Bazaar on the sign as I was walking by. I can say that this is the location of where I was, right next to Nefertari Papyrus maps.app.goo.gl/Wf4Kf12mhyEkockb8
Could you do a video about prices on souvenirs to not get scammed? Also like best places to buy from and what is reasonable prices? I’d love to explore this topic as I travel there soon but don’t want to be taken advantage of! Like a souvenir guide? Thank you 😊
I unfortunately don't know how much souvenirs should cost, that's the only problem. I never buy souvenirs (like papyrus, oils, jewelry, rugs, trinkets, all that), so I don't know how much one should be paying. But if you are looking to buy souvenirs I recommend going to Khan El-Khalili. There's no sure way to not get ripped off, even I do sometimes, or even if I go with my Egyptian boyfriend, because they see him with a foreigner and tell even him a higher price. The best way to try and figure out how much you should be paying or how low someone is willing to go: go to 5 different shops asking for the same item, and barter at each shop. They will all be willing to lower the price and you will begin to get a better idea of what that item should cost. They will give you different reasons as to why their product costs more: better quality, real not fake, hand crafted, etc. If you know how to tell the difference between real cashmere or pashmina or banana paper vs. papyrus or gold vs. painted gold, etc., then great! If not, just buy whatever you like for the lowest price😅 I did make 2 videos in Khan el-Khalili talking about this briefly, if you're interested in watching: Part 1: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gexPUwWdH9c.html Part 2: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-435QVWVA4B8.html
as an Egyptian I'm telling you that .. if it's not an official store or there's no ticket ,the price is nearly half of what buyer is saying.. so negotiate well and offer 60% of what he says if he refuses just leave him to the next shop 👍
Excellent video Gisele. It would be possible to see the other entrance to the pyramids, I know there are two. Thanks for your videos, you are a genius.
Haha. Yeah maybe if I make a video about the Giza Necropolis and the pyramids area I will show both entrances. As I'm sure you heard me say in the video, I mentioned there are two entrances, but like I also mentioned in the video, I didn't show the main entrance because this video was about hotels near the pyramids, and there are very few at the main entrance, but dozens and dozens near the Sphinx entrance. I also loathe going to the main entrance. It's a longer walk up, there are tons and tons of tour buses, and it takes longer to get to if you're coming from anywhere near downtown (which I always am, as I live northeast of the pyramids). But when I make a more detailed pyramids video (not sure when, I have a lot of other ones I want to make about Egypt), I will make sure to include the other entrance 👍 Thanks for watching Joaquin!
So informative, I forwarded it to my friend who is planning a trip shortly! As always, excellent perspective and information! STAY SAFE ON YOUR MOTORCYCLE!
Yeah, or you could stay in a hostel, that's what I always do and it's much cheaper. I also prefer downtown. But some people want to stay in a hotel near the pyramids. I made this video for them. Also I don't think the homestay is $10 a night during peak season, but maybe. Anyways, different strokes for different folks
The Egyptian Ministry of Tourism should retain your services as its travel and tourism advisor and ambassador. The locals seem to appreciate your congenial demeanour.
Hi Gisselle! Thank-you sooo much for making this video! I've been thinking of taking a quick trip to Egypt and staying at the Egypt Pyramids Inn, but was curious about the other hotels in the area and the area in general. Your video was perfect! Thanks! (Your channel... great also! I've added a bunch of your videos to my "watch" list and will check them out as soon as I have some time.) Hmm... not sure if you know about the following or not... I was thinking of catching a taxi at the Cairo airport and heading straight to my hotel in Giza. Do you happen to know around how much I should expect to pay? (What about tipping? What percentage is custom in Egypt?) Is it easy to find a taxi at the airport? Are they willing to go as far as Giza? Hmm. Not sure if you know the answers. Either way... Happy New Year! :) And Congrats on an amazing channel! Julie (in Nova Scotia, Canada)
Hey Julie, thanks so much for watching, and Happy New Year to you as well!!! So excited for 2024 and what the year will bring 🤩 100% you can catch a taxi from the airport and they will take your hotel in Giza. I would recommend catching an Uber, just so you don't get ripped off by the white taxis who will charge you more. It depends on the time of day and traffic, but roughly an Uber from Cairo International to the Pyramids area with all the hotels should cost around 350-400 EGP ($11-$13 USD). You do need to catch an Uber in the parking lot, but it's easy to access, just walk out of the airport and you should be able to see it. Only issue is, it might take a while for the driver to find you, and it won't be easy for you to locate him unless you know the Arabic numbers (the license plate numbers are in Arabic). I actually made a video talking about some useful info for arrival to Egypt, and in part of that video I talk about the Ubers at the airport as well as the numbers ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Il6pZFgyl_I.html Tipping isn't huge here, most Egyptians tip very little, but I think Egyptians do see foreigners and hope to get tips. You could tip 20 EGP and it would be generous, most Egyptians round up to the nearest 5 😅 But I think if you can afford to tip more, it makes their day so why not
Thank you so much for all of these amazingly informative videos..its so helpul. Do you happen to have contact to the guy who runs the spiritual tours who owns the pyramids overlook b&b. Im looking for a genuine local guide to visit inside the pyramids. Thank you ❤
Yeah, it's in the video though, isn't it?! I think I took a photo of his card and put it in the video. He was a cool guy 😁 Offered me tea and we hung out on that rooftop and chatted a bit before he left, he told me I could go up there anytime I wanted and his staff would let me in if I wanted to relax up there. Very kind and generous of him
Omg Gisselle....cant stop thanking you enough for these informative videos....im planning my trip in oct and just booked flight tickets....came across ur channel.....u cover everything...god bless you ❤❤❤
im so happy to see you talking arabic ,for sure it wasnt an easy task lol thank you for your videos and have a lovely stay in egypt , you are egyptian now
Super video we stayed there in the fall of 2022 at the Pyramids Valley Boutique Hotel amazing view on the roof top , As usual enjoyed this video also ,I'm trying not to miss any as they are very informative and well presented . Egypt became our favorite destination , THANK'S 😀😀😀😀
That's fantastic, it certainly seems to be a well loved destination, as I have met many repeat visitors to this beautiful country, and I myself was not planning to stay and live here, I only came for travel, yet Egypt sucked me in with her powers, and I am still here 2.5 years later 😄 and loving it ❤
Gisselle, thank you for your extremely informative video's. We will be travelling to Egypt at the end of January. we should meet up for coffee. Greetings from Cape Town South Africa 🇿🇦
Oh your trip is very soon, nice! And thank you for your support, I'm glad to hear my videos are proving useful 😁 I am actually going to be on a motorbike trip in Egypt at the end of January, not sure how long I will be gone, but I think I won't be in Cairo when you are here, or I would totally meet for coffee ❤
Thank you so much for your very generous donation! That's a lot!!!! 🙏 I regret to say, I don't actually give tours though. I tried it a few times, but it is too difficult and exhausting for me, so I don't do it anymore. There are better tour guides out there anyway, who actually know Egyptian history and speak the language 😅 I really appreciate your support though, and if you ever have any questions, don't hesitate to reach out! 🥰 Thank you so much again! (really, that is the largest donation I have ever received...it's too much 😅) ❤❤🙏🙏🙏
You are welcome! My family and will be in Cairo next month. Do you have recommendations of reputable tour guides? We will be staying next to the pyramids. We like your videos! Wish you the best.
@@mariofranco-gr5xo Ah, I wish I could be of more help! I actually never take tours, so I'm really not familiar with tour companies or guides. I know Anton's Egypt's Tours is reputable, but they are also luxury and VERY expensive. You might try iEgypt as well, I've heard good things about their tours from a few people. It's hard for me to say though, as I don't have personal experience with any tour companies or guides....I'm sorry!
Gisselle, thank you so much for this valuable information. I am visiting Egypt next month, I am in America, l have few questions for you if you don't mind: How can I book a hotel room while I'm here in America, and do I pay at the time of reservation or when I arrive at the hotel, do they accept debit cards Can you give me these hotels phone numbers?
Thank you so much Amrm9503! You can search for hotels on booking.com or other websites like that. You can also find these places on google maps, and see if they have a way to contact them there. If they don't have a number listed on google or some other platform though, I am not sure how to reach them, unfortunately. Payment also varies depending on the establishment, website you book through, etc. Most hotels accept debit cards, and usually on the sites where you book it will also inform you of what kind of payment they accept and if they take a deposit or payment in full, etc. I honestly never stay in hotels, I always stay in hotels and book through hostelworld.com when I do, so my experience and knowledge is much greater in regards to hostels vs. hotels. I hope this helps a little
Do you ask if it's free to film inside the hotels before you enter or is that rude to ask? Because in Morocco you have to ask for everything first or else they try to get money from you. Thanks!
I did ask if I could film inside the hotels, not because they will ask for money, but because they would probably tell me I couldn't film if I just walked in filming. Filming in Egypt can be tricky. Sometimes I don't ask and just try and film for as long as possible (if I think they are going to tell me no if I were to ask), other times I do just walk up filming. Typically, anything indoors I either try to do discreetly and quickly, or ask right before I start filming. Outside I never ask and just film, but if I notice police or security will put the camera down or stop until I am out of eyesight. Never been asked for money for filming though, just been told to stop.
Thank you so much for your great content. It's very interesting and fun to watch. I will be going to Cairo soon and I was wondering whether it's calmer in a hostel next to the pyramids or in a hostel in downtown Cairo? I guess it's noisy everywhere but maybe you could tell me if there's a difference? Thank you 🙂
Sure. But first I have to point out, there are no hostels near the pyramids, only hotels and guest houses. All the hostels are going to be found in downtown Cairo. Generally, the pyramids are a more quiet area, because the pyramids area is sectioned off a bit from the main roads and the rest of Giza. I mean, it's Egypt so it's still noisy (dogs barking at night, maybe some cats meowling, some traffic noise, etc.) but it's quieter than downtown Cairo, which is a lot busier, hence more noise. I prefer downtown Cairo exactly for this reason: there's more to do. Plenty of food options, cafes, it's closer to many sites than the Pyramids in Giza are. Actually, I talk about location a bit in this video, in case you haven't seen it: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Il6pZFgyl_I.html
@@Gventuresgreat, thank you for the response, it was very helpful to me. I have trouble sleeping when it's noisy so I will probably pick Giza and take an Uber into Cairo for the sights and restaurants.
@@Mela-eg9jt Okay. You might have trouble with the dogs near the pyramids though, especially at night. 5 star hotels are probably pretty quiet, but you'll pay the price. Maybe try Zamalek, I talk about it in the video I linked, you should watch it, I think it's useful. Zamalek is an island on the Nile and probably the most quiet area. But honestly, it's hard to find "quiet" anywhere in Giza or Cairo. 6th largest city in the world, over 22 million people, still developing, lots of stray cats and a fair amount of dogs to make noise at night...I would specifically search for places that mention the peace and quiet if noise bothers you.
I hesitate to give recommendations. People prefer different things. I really hate being with a tour guide, honestly, so I never take tours or have a guide. I guess I can recommend, if you are me, not to take a tour 😅
Agreed! The B&B has the best view, hands down. More simple, but more private, and if you prefer more personal experiences, that would be a good choice.
Yeah, well taxes in the US are stupid, they should include it in the advertised price on everything. I don't think hotels charge any additional fees or tax on top of this here in Egypt. I always stayed at hostels (and now I have my own apartment I rent in the city), but when I was staying in hostels I wasn't charged any kind of tax. It was just the fee for the dorm room every night
I stayed at the Marriott, and what a disappointment! Room was dirty, food was horrible and the service was more like Motel 6! Hanging around outside the hotel was cheesy people selling fake "artifacts",( where is Zahi Hawass)? sexual services, food that probably had a million flies on it... Just gross!
You stayed at the Marriot...Mena House? And had that kind of experience there??! That's crazy. I've never stayed there, but I've heard only positive reviews of that 5 star hotel. Looks super fancy and nice to me, but completely out of my budget, so I only ever went there once, for a wedding.
@@Gventures Yes, I was in Cairo for business. I'm not sure if housekeeping didn't clean the room after the last tenants departed, or maybe they had new staff.., something, but the suite was large, elegant.., but dirty bathroom, carpet wasn't vacuumed, looked like someone threw up near the window.. I checked out that evening and took an Uber to the Four Seasons.
Hello Giselle, I like your videos and your details. Please go to the neighbor countries, like Morocco another Middle East. And tell us a the price hotels - food everything apartments thank you.❤
WOW I have been following your videos and they are fantastic As Iam a solo traveller the videos you do are very helpful You do them in a way that makes it easy to follow and understand for the average traveller Like you I like to do my own thing and dont like large tour groups I have in the past been on tours and found them rushed I did a tour through Portugal Spain and Morocco last year with 18 people and that wasnt to bad but not as good as going solo I will be in Egypt in May 2024 going to Cairo Luxor and Aswan then onto Jordan No tour groups haha Cant wait to see Egypt Any advice for organising a local tour guide and car in Cairo Was thinking of doing Saqqrar and Memphis day 1 and Giza Pyramids and Cairo city on day 2 Staying in Giza Keep up the great Vids Cheers
Yessss solo travel is the best, I love it! But you know I actually never even have a tour guide, I just get Ubers to the places I want to go and explore on my own, I usually do that all over the world: taxis/local transportation to destination, then walk around and explore, maybe meet cool people. Of course, you should only do this if you confident and comfortable enough to, I know it's not for everyone and Cairo is hectic. Because I never take any kind of tours (with a group or by myself), I can't recommend a tour company. But I will say it's almost necessary to have a tour to take you to Saqqara/Darshur and Memphis, because those locations are far away and each site is spread out. However, I do think Giza Pyramids and Cairo can be easily done on your own, a guide isn't necessary. Just take an Uber to the pyramids, buy your ticket, explore. Then do the same for whatever else you want to see in Cairo and Giza. Again, the city is hectic (6th largest city in the world and still a developing country), but it's not dangerous and most people are very friendly and curious. Do generally ignore people trying to sell you things on the streets though, it's the way it must be done. If you don't straight up ignore them, they will persist.
I'm looking forward to RU-vid. I learned from your videos and came to Cairo from japan! I went to GIZA today.GIZA people buthered me a lot 😂😂 the hotel in front of piramyd is great! I stayed too!
This is such a great blog! I'll be staying around that area, it's a pyramids inn too and will be coming this month. It's good to know that it's really near to us. How long gonna wait to enter inside giza? Hope you tour us on pyramids too.
Wait is almost never too long, but it can be a bit hectic to buy your ticket. I have actually made a few vlogs down by the pyramids. My 2nd vlog ever was when I first arrived to Egypt 2 years ago and filmed down by the pyramids (so it's not my greatest video 😅), and I also made a video some time later about what you should know for the pyramids. Prices are not the same in those videos though, as inflation has happened, entry fees have gone up, etc. But I'll leave those 2 links anyway in case you're interested. 2nd vlog (at pyramids): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xVL_QFKDPPk.html Need to Know for the Pyramids: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-cX0V9XKyiaE.html
Oh haha, no, this is typical Egyptian traffic. I can hear them coming when they are behind me and step out of the way a little (and they won't hit me), and oncoming traffic I can see them. We all just walk or drive close to one another here, but it's totally fine and normal here 😆
Miam Florida Art Deco district hotels interiors need a makeover they look good on the outside, but grossly outdated on the inside and quite expensive. All the hotels you showed was fabulous, my favorite one you showed was Egypt Pyramids Inn I would love seeing the Sphinx and pyramids together at sunrise and sunset on the roof top.
I’m currently in Egypt now, will be leaving another 2 days after spend almost 12 days, Egypt is beautiful, rich with history but tipping culture is mandatory. Even you booked your package, the guide still asking for the tips (including the driver). So get ready to get small change 20/50 Egyptian pound. I find it really annoying, i am sorry but this will be my first and last trips to Egypt.
Tipping is usually mandatory with packaged tours, and at the very least, it is expected in many situations involving tours and services. I have found that to be true all over the world. However, in daily life, or if you are planning your own trip and doing things on your own, tipping is not mandatory, and in fact tipping is not expected in most instances in Egypt. Although it is still kind to tip people for services, especially if it is only a small amount (and to many foreigners it is). I never take tours, but I do touristic things sometimes, and if someone helps me with something, I personally always tip a little. Just because it was kind of them to help me and I can afford to tip them something. I'm not rich, but I'm certainly richer than many people working here, so what is small for me can have a big impact for them. Anyways, sorry to hear you found that annoying, I guess Egypt just isn't for you.
Gizelle, the memory of the pyramids that l have from 5 years ago is one of filth at the front gates to the pyramids, rubbish scattered here and there, someone chasing his horse that he was trying to whip down the main street and the sound of a horse or a camel behind the brick wall surrounding that area, groaning, a type of screaming if you will for its life! I've never forgotten the sound this animal made. Sorry but that's what l remember.
@@jibjreelharris3697 Yes I've wanted to go for a long time and just haven't found the time to, but I know it is absolutely stunning. Really looking forward to my trip there later this year! Hope you have a great time there yourself ☺❤
Yes it should be fine, but not in certain areas. Any time there are a lot of police, security, military or anything like that around, don't film. It will just be a hassle for you, they will likely tell you to stop, and may tell you to delete your footage. Wait until you pass through security and then film. Leave your camera in your bag until after you have passed through and gone a good distance away. You are allowed to film in the pyramids area but it's better to get away from all the security stuff before you start. That goes for anywhere in Egypt. Also, don't film government buildings/embassies, etc. I almost never film with my phone, I always use my action camera with a small mic attached. Filming with a phone is a lot easier, almost nobody cares about that. Even my action camera is usually not the problem, it's the mic with the little furry wind muff on. It looks too "official" 🤣 Thanks for watching! 🥰
Great video n informative. I rented a rooftop flat there about 15yrs ago...1000egy pounds month! Area hasn't changed much, alot more hotels now but that's about it. Is great to wake up to the pyramids. Happy new year n all the best for 2024. Will be in Cairo in cpl weeks time, hope to see you around.
