Buyer beware! Be sure to agree to each detail when buying a house! Wisdom from the film, “Moving” (1988) starring Richard Pryor. One of the funniest scenes ever!! “We’re taking it with us!” Enjoy :)
Dude same here.I remember seeing this as a kid bits and pieces whenever they would play it on television . As I was gettimg older I'm like What the hell is the name of that movie where they are moving LOL I found it in the early nineties and then I purchased it on DVD a couple of years ago. I'm actually getting ready to watch it right now it's such a classic for me because it brings back memories for me when I was a child I absolutely love these little feel good moment movies.
My realtor showed me a house yesterday and the people living there told us they were taking the light fixtures, the bathroom sinks, countertops and cabinets, appliances and several other things.. This scene came to mind. 😂😂😂😂
This movie along with another movie " The Money Pit", should be watched before buying a house, due to the fact it gives you advice and warning signs before you close the deal.
We had this movie on VHS when I was a kid and I watched it on repeat when we didn't have cable. Whenever I completely clear out a house on the Sims before moving them out I think of this scene. Lmao
I was a mover for 30 years, there was never anything this extreme of course, but it’s pretty eye-opening just how particular and petty both the seller AND buyers can be. I’ve referenced this movie many times when a return customer would call to tell me they’re talking about buying a house, and it ain’t all that far off
I am not even going to call the old white couple racists, this is flat out psychopathy. 1) they seem very nice and welcoming at first and make the black couple spend a ton of money on the house. 2) They proceed to remove everything they could, however minor, only so they could cause as much distress as possible. 3) The white guy went so far as to record and transcribe the recording he had of their conversation, however I don't think he ever mentioned anything about their conversation being recorded. 4) He did all of this in such a way that should it go to court he would have plausible deniability.
@@arthursmith1181 Yeah, that bugged me. They should have made the sellers black, too. The concept is funny but it seems racist and opportunistic to me, like they were taking advantage of black buyers.
I saw this movie as a kid. And when my wife and I were shopping for our house 30 years later all I was thinking about was this scene, every home we looked at.
I was watching a story about some one's driveway being stollen (as in the concrete being torn up and removed) and all I could think of was Richard's reaction to the state of the house as the reaction to coming home to that as well.
I love how they found a house which was being completely renovated , just so they could pull off the Comedy for this Scene ... That is just brilliant writing and acting and production.. The realism makes it just that much more Funny . lmao
When we bought our house they took the marble around the tub , the door knocker and the stained glass above the entry door leaving a 2 foot by three foot hole in the wood siding . The realtor said it was like that when we looked at the house . They also left a bunch of worthless stuff . In the basement , we agreed on an old washer and dryer to be left and it was two truckloads of stuff .
@@williamshaw9047 i seen them all from which way is up,the toy, busting loose, stir crazy, silver streak, bresters millions which are all my favorites too but this one is hilarious
it's really not a well known film.. I never find anyone that's heard of it.. weird because it's so well written and memorable and has some well known actors in it. Quotable as hell.. "his name is Rudy something and I love him very much"
+bh617 I saw this on HBO or Starz or something around 2000 and I never forgot about it. Got turned onto it because Dana Carvey was/is my fav and he plays a small but wonderful role here
Legally speaking, anything involved with real property transactions must be stated in writing, no verbal contracts. Anything affixed to the property is a part of said property.
Man I'm going to remember this one, reminds me of the show from the UK about nightmare tenants that DID steal the carpet, the sinks, the pipes, even the GRASS one time!!
The wrestler King Kong Bundy is also in the movie. I like how the movers brought his stuff all the way from New Jersey but wouldn't give it to him, they kept putting a sorry we missed you sign on his door. Just driving around with his stuff.
Workers are shown in the background putting the house back together at the end of the movie, but other than the angry phone call it's never explained exactly what Arlo did to the seller to make him return everything. I assume that was in a deleted scene, which I'm sure would have been hilarious.
I live in Hamilton, Ontario, 🍁 and this Irish restaurant "Rebel Rock" closed down. These black guys took all the wood fencing and wood stairs at Rebel Rock lol.
He buscado tanto este film desde cuando lo ví en los ochenta, recordaba cada diálogo de esta escena, un gusto volver a verla y reírme como aquella vez ! jajaja. Espero conseguirla online para reverla en su totalidad. :D
The thing about the scene, is that the cost of removing all of those items, especially the pool, would have to outstrip the profit from the buyer thinking they were getting them. And it’s not like the sellers would really be able to reuse the pool very easily.
I was driving those Royal/Ruraks to the block. I regret not driving them Academy's or Funaway's home to Mom. Of course I don't do too much driving these days once I took that gamma overdose.
What are the previous owners going to do with all of the stuff they took with them? It’s not like the stairs, tile, and cabinets are going to fit into another house as they are custom.
what if they said at the very end that they're taking the whole house and pool with them, and they did just that, so when the family would drive there, they would find the pool and the entire house is gone?
As you get older, you identify more with the older couple. Why do the people get to enjoy my home improvements? Half the houses out there; the owners are asking crazy money, and they done nothing to the house.
Funny movie/scene but the buy and sell contract spells out clearly in detail what will be taken or left behind and you don’t rely on a conversation with anyone
If you have representation -- remember, in this cut from the movie, it seems that the Buyers were on their own. In fact, they even asked the Seller to finance -- so not even a professional Mortgage Lender had a chance to review the written contract, well, if there was a written contract at all. Supposedly a comedy...
