He got the actor who was asking for a light too! Watch closely. He breaks character and smiles real big trying not to laugh. Richard and Gene were both masters.
Pryor is the forerunner of guys like Chappell kevin Aries and a lot of these modern comics.writing this in June 2022 while staying in due to covid.people think it's going away but it's really coming back plus we now have the monkey pox.stay safe people.
Tony Burton was the epitome of a character Actor. He brought authenticity to every character. Check out how much humanity & dimension he brought to his character in the Rocky films for example.
@@ferryportia9442 ha, yes. That's very subtle, because we only hear that "We don't take too much shit." line. We don't actually see Pryor saying it, haha
Fwiw, it looks like a badly done ADR thing (Auto Dialog Replacement). It's been around for a long time and it can be seen in the credits. During post production, the actor goes into a darkened sound room and tries to repeat a perfectly synced word or words that didn't record well. Other times, a new line clarifying the story is added to an actor originally not speaking but facing away from the camera. Prior probably thought it would be worth adding the line after seeing the final cut. Maybe they felt back in the analog years and without easily repeating views, it wouldn't be noticed.
This is pure comic genius. Sure, the punch was fake (with no bloody nose!), but the way Pryor and Wilder played off each other in a way that brought the tension in the room to a breaking point (or diffused it?) was just hilarious. They don't make comedy like this anymore. Thanks for posting. Rest in peace, Richard and Gene.
an interesting aspect is that Wilder said that he didn't actually like working with Pryor that much. I think it had to do w/Pryor being late to set a lot, doing a lot of drugs. They had great chemistry on film--but they weren't really tight off camera.
YOU TOOK THE WORDS RIGHT OUTTA MY MOUTH MY FRIEND!! WITHOUT QUESTIONS OR HESITATIONS, THESE TWO WERE SIMPLY, UNMATCHED, 🌏 UNBEATABLE, 🌐 NATURAL(S), DYNAMICS, PHENOMENALS AS YES THEY DEFINITELY FED OFF IF EACH OTHERS UPS 'N' DOWNS...AND, AS HIGH OR, HIGHER THAN, MARTIN & LEWIS, AND OTHER UNIQUE GENIUSES IN NOT ONLY AMERICA'S COMEDIC WOYRLD BUT, ALL AROUND OUR 🌏 GLOBE AS WELL AS GALAXY! @ToddLarson....Are fuckin' kidding me bro?? No way.....all these years, and now all the sudden, come to find out that punch was FAKE?? Just when you think you know something for sure, and then....BAM...You find out that you had it all wrong the whole time! Now it makes sense Brother! Thanks for setting me straight on it, because all these years I've often wondered why there wasn't any blood after that dude taking that kinda punch! That's some crazy shit Brother!!🤪🤪 LMFAO!😁 Just fuckin' with you a lil' bit Todd!😉 Have a good one Man!
Wait!!, what,, so the fight scenes in films are fake 🤯 makes me question what else might be fake in films? Next you'll be telling me that superman's flying is fake 🤣😂
Him trying to strike that match on his tooth then his eyebrows has to be the funniest stuff on film. Them two couldn’t be more different but fit together like a hand and a glove
Your comment is a little interesting but it's vague so it loses its impact ,,be specific when you say gene keep together what are you specifically talking about and when you say he breaks what are you talking about? it could be a couple different things so please if you get a chance be specific because your comment is interesting either way but just want to know how you meant it did you mean he breaks in not showing fear or he breaks character or what did you mean 🙂
Both Gene and Richard were hilarious actors. When they played in a movie together they me rolling. Two great actors RIP Gene Wilder and RIP Richard Pryor.
Actually the two did not get along behind the scenes, they rarely saw or spoke to each other, it was said that gene Wilder who literally had a squeaky clean image didn't approve of the wild drug induced world of Richard Pryor, but did remain cordial towards each other until Pryor's death in 2006.
Brilliant how director Sidney Poitier still used the takes of Gene Wilder trying to hold back laughter, made it look like it was supposed to be like that.
@@garystevens4303 didn't see any big WHITE guys. If you're had said "the big dude" I'm pretty sure everyone would have still known exactly who you were talking about. 🙄
Such immense talent. Wilder is one of the giants of his time. Somehow never overacted but always managed to have the attention his way. Starred in three of my all-time top five movies. Pryor, for a standup guy, was so good. Better than many actors. And these two together? Magic.
Yeah these days most people get so butt hurt about everything, back then we could insult each other racially and other ways and we just laughed about it
Did you know that Sidney Poitier direct this movie this movie right here is a golden classic i could watch this one scene right here 50 times and still laugh rest in peace to the late great Sidney Poitier,Richard Pryor And Gene Wilder.
Brilliant loved these old US 80s comedies as a kid, see no evil hear no evil , brewsters millions , and Moving that was funny. John Candy brilliant too , Steve martin , Bill Murrey, Chevy chase very good era.
They aired this on regular TV when i was a kid and they censored, "we don't want no shit" and made it, "we don't want no doo doo" my brother and me said that phrase for years and i forgot where i originally heard it from until watching this clip. Thanks for uploading.
@@michaels5728 also before that when prior attempts to strike the match with his teeth. from my understanding the gentleman who smiles happens to be Cedric Hardman who at the time was still playing for the 49ers. I'm glad that the editor did not edit this out.
At what minute and second marks do you see him laughing so I can check. If you want to see one of the funniest scenes in entertainment histories see the courtroom scene when Martin Lawrence got a traffic ticket and he jumps into the jury box acting like he's insane one of the jury members looks like he starts to laugh it was unsurpressable
I laughed so hard watching this flick in the movies with my friends back in the day, I had stomach cramps for 2 damn days!!! 😂This flick put Pryor and Wilder on the map as one of the greatest comic duos of all time!!
Seriously 😒 I think the Blackman in the blue shirt 👕 does an amazing acting job. Going from rage 😤 to pure fear after he hits the big man was very well played. I am sure there are plenty of positive comments about Pryor and Wilder but sometimes it’s the other side actors that really do a job well done making a movie like this such a classic.
I loved it at the drive-in and no less now. Incredible comedy...Prior tries being cool and attempts to strike the Bluetip Match on His own teeth, then He even tries striking it in His own hair. Every attempt fails, until He finally gets a spark off the big, dark cowboy's chest. Folks, that's an epic sequence from a legendary film. 🎥
Seen Stir Crazy about 20 times, still make me laugh. Pryor and Wilder duo are just pure genius. They sure don’t make films like this anymore. Comedy at its very best.
@@miles2378 They were in four films together:- Silver Streak, Stir Crazy, See No Evil Hear No Evil and Another You. Gene Wilder was his stage name. His actual name was Jerome Silberman.
I was born in the 90s.. But I enjoy old comedies like these. Something about them make me feel happy. My dad recommended me most of these Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor movies and he didn't understand English, but laughed at every funny moment of them🤭
Hilarious. Pryor acting terrified of the big man is hilarious 😂! His lighting the match and the short sob talk about his family....wish I'd gotten into writing for geniuses of acting and comedy like Pryor
We don't wish it because you might have just messed it up. they didn't need you THEY are fine just the way they were .I'm just saying. Try to be happy with your life and life you had and don't look back think about the good things that happened in your life, some people that end up writing for comedians and people like that end up having bad lives and tragic endings and like the writer for a good times Richard Pryor his life life had tragedies in it too
Good movie didn't know Sidney directed it.rip to Sidney richard and gene.they don't make movies like tjis anymore.the big cowboy is Cedric hardman a dlineman for the 49ers.
@@edwardmoore5325 Sidney's Daughter , Pamela had a small role near to the start of the film where she plays the waitress at the dinner party .Cedric Hardman died a couple of years ago too and of course same for Tony Burton . who got his head slapped ! This film also has a prisoner played by Jonathon Banks , from Breaking Bad in it .
