“My hormones feel so out of balance” a female patient will tell me. “I’m tired of feeling crappy and terrible all at the time. Do I need to do hormone replacement to feel better, or is there a natural way to get my hormones in balance?”
Good points. Protein is always important as it contains cholesterol which is the precursor of progesterone. Many women do not eat enough protein. Bio-identical progesterone supplementation made a huge difference in my life. All the doctors wanted to do was prescribe estrogen which I knew I didn't need. Progesterone also helps brain health and keep blood pressure low. Stress also reduces the levels of progesterone as cortisol is produced instead. Please spread the word.
There's another problem with not eating enough protein (various meats). Meats contain TYROSINE, an amino acid chain that is a precursor to DOPAMINE FORMATION. Low dopamine => low motivation, inability to concentrate, depression, cold hands & feet, mood swings.
Protein yes. Veggie proteins do include the amino acids. But you do need to make sure you eat enough, and most women don't do that. (I recommend a pea protein shake like the one from garden of life). Your body makes its own cholesterol- I have a cholesterol of 130 and don't eat meat or dairy. It's actually a little high because I eat too much saturated fat 😄
My breast cancer was "hormone positive". Apparently majority of women has a hormone positive breast cancer. My oncology doctor, of Chinese heritage, told me to stop eating soy b/c it contains plant hormone/estrogen. I did. And 20 yrs later I am still here. I would never ever recommend anybody to eat soy.
Dr. Hyman, just fantastic what is Your Knowledge and that You share it so freely and clearly. How people would be healed if medical truth would be shared in this way instead of being distorted by financial interests. Great thanks!
i like the fact that @ every lecture dr Hyman asks the question: why. why people have hormonal imbalances/dis-balances? he is willing to look at the root of the problem and not just give a recommendation for a synthetic or natural hormone.
THANK YOU Dr. Hyman. I cannot thank you enough as I am currently experiencing an imbalance in your videos so helpful to me. You did not tell us however which healthy fats you want us to have, can you please specify a bit more. Thank you again!!

Hi Doctor! I like your videos and books! You’re so knowledgeable! I would love if you can recommend me a doctor in San Diego County! for my daughter how has a inmune condition. Thanks so much!!
Thanks so much for discussing this. I need to cut out the booze...not hard to do. I eat organic and only non-wheat flour as I'm horribly gluten intolerant. Does that help about the flour? I don't use much anyway. How about meal replacement shakes? I use one called Shakeologly - have you heard of it? If you could ck and give your assessment as I'm not sure if this helps or hurts me. I'm 49 and been in menopause since my late 30's. Right now I'm on an anti-depresant that helps with the hot flashes but I have HORRIBLE insomnia. HELP!! Getting back on track on the exercise. Any help you can give is appreciated.
For sluggish thyroid not related to Hashi's, do you believe people can live without meds by eating ultra clean? If so, do you have an ideal diet? Maybe what an example of a great breakfast, lunch and dinner looks like for thyroid health?
I had my hormones checked, and the gyno said that I needed the biote pellet therapy, but not sure I want something inserted in my pelvis. What do you THINK Dr Hyman?

How do I cure my chronic migraine? I've had it for almost 5 years now, since the age of 16. I assume that it's been caused by a hormonal imbalance due to starting progesterone pills when I was 16, but I am still unsure. Will my hormones naturally balance themselves if I take your advice after getting non-hormonal contraception?
what about women that eat raw vegan diets and fruitarians? I don't understand how they eat it and it does not affect them... would you say it's possible to change the way your body metabolizes sugars?
I am 25 year old female. I always had severe menstrual cramps so bad I would throw up.l, faint, and be crying with pain for the first day that I got my period....however, I developed severe anorexia in my early twenties. after recovery is when everything got way worse. cystic acne, facial hair, and still the same painful craps. testosterone levels were a bit high (40 something) my endo told me. I workout 5 -6 times a week I do pilates, I am 100% vegan for over 6 months. please, someone help me. I don't touch dairy, I take a multi vitamin. still suffering with the acne face hair and cramps.
Have you ever been checked for PCOS? I had all the symptoms you did and went on a PCOS diet and now I have none. The diet is basically no gluten, no dairy (which you're already doing), no grains and no high GI foods. I basically eat lots of green veggies, low sugar fruit like apples and berries and soaked beans (im vegan too). It's boring but it works and it's worth it to have clear skin and no cramps!
I know my whole body is out of wak. I think I am nutritionally imbalanced and my body is not absorbing what I eat. I would like to run some test to find out what nutrients/ vitamins I am deficient in. I wish I could reach out to this Dr to help me. Anybody know how I can get tested?
Most people don't experience some of the physical problems that I an going through, and I don't know what the best way is to approach what is going on. I am 63, and have recently had a MRI on my back, which shows my Spondylolisthesis to be 60% slippage, and they found a tumor growing on my spinal cord. I went to a surgeon who does not want to operate on me, because he is afraid that he will make my pain worse. The tumor is benign and has infiltrated my pelvic floor. I am on constant pain medication to help me manage the pain, which is awful. I cannot walk very far or stand for very long. I have been trying to lose 50 pounds, and discovered these problems after a weight training session at my gym, and have been down for the past year or more. Is there any way for me to work around my limitations and still lose the weight? What can I do to help my physical being. I fear that I will not live to be very old if I am as sedentary as I have been. No doctors will advise me.
***** I am pretty sure that we don't have any Naturopathic doctors in our city. I currently take Turmeric. I am always confused when there is a list of supplements such as what you have mentioned. I never know whether you are suppose to take one or the other or all of them. Can you please explain how you are suppose to take these? Thanks.
We have tried this already, and there has been no medication that will numb the pain that is not a problem for my liver. I try to do liver cleanses at least twice a week, and I take Milk Thistle.. Sometimes, when there are no Holistic or Homeopathic doctors in your area, or you cannot afford to travel and pay for one in another city, you do your best to research and try to heal yourself. I don't know what else to do.
What about in your 70's.....I can't sleep and have bad anxiety....the dumb doctor put me on klonopin and visteral and I have all kinds of stomach problems.....and I have lost huge amount of weight from the klonopin......what about bioidental hormones or will I have breakthrough bleeding....
