@@SaiyanSerenityV for me personally, Joffrey as much as I hated him, he was still a child so him being immature and brat and spoiled and out of control given his royal status and terrible parenting, is at least understandable that Joffrey would behave that way. And Ramsay is a Bolton bastard, he was doomed that way already. My fury with Criston Cole is really just he should know better, especially as a grown adult, and he doesn’t and he’s a hypocrite about it which gets other people killed. There’s no “I’m a kid” or “I had terrible role models” to really be an excuse.

As a book fan, one of the many things that frustrated me about Game of Thrones was how they ignored the magic and prophecy to appeal to a wide audience. We were so robbed of the trippy weirwood dream sequences. You cannot IMAGINE the sounds I made when we got one at Harrenhal. Plus, it looks just as huge and desolate and creepy as it was ALWAYS meant to be! I am in love with what they're doing here with Daemon. I'm so excited for this weekend!!
I would argue that GOT lessening of the magic stuff to appeal to a wider audience and getting that audience to stay eventually helped House of the Dragon to be able to dive into more mystical things because GOT had already prepped the wider audience to be ready.

The end of this episode changes everything! Now that Alicent knows the truth, any horrors can no longer hide behind believing she was right. She can no longer claim Aegon is the rightful king now knowing she misunderstood. I'm glad Daemon is finally facing some guilt for all of the terrible things he’s done. POS. Nice to see Milly Alcock again.
@@samfisher6606 Alicent didn't make a mistake. She acted according to the information she had, and she did so sincerely with firm conviction. Mistakes are things you do wrong, even though you know better. That wasn't the case with Alicent. But ignorant and haters like to ignore it. The path of both ladies was manipulated almost always from others. They could only react to circumstances that others had initiated. This happened until there was no way back and they now have to deal with the circumstances and the damage others made. And sometimes it's just luck and bad luck that reigns.
Mistake: "an action or judgment that is misguided or wrong." You don't have to "know better" for something to be a mistake. Knowing better and doing something anyway isn't a mistake, that would just be a choice. @@TomTomson81
@@TomTomson81It's not going to change what happens. Alicent will still have to claim those were his final words. But now she knows the true meaning. And it will be very interesting to see what she does with the information and see how it influences the acting.
Alicent can't change anything anymore, even if she wanted to. She does not have the influence and power to do so (If it were different, she would try it, I'm sure, because she is someone who repents). That's why it's too late. Against all the haters here, it was made very clear again that Alicent put her son on the throne out of conviction and not because she heard what she wanted to hear. She did not fuck up and she is certainly not delusional. She did not know the story of ice and fire and therefore had no other reference to the name Aegon than her son in that context. Now there is no way back. Her son will not let the crown be taken away from him and his subordinates will not allow that. She can't do anything. In addition, it was made very clear in the last episode that Alicrent's sons no longer listen to her, thanks to Otto. This was literally the topic of the conversation between Alicent and Otto. Btw Alicent lets her friend go. What's more, she advises her to leave so that she can get away safely. The war could have ended right here in Hightower's favor. And never forget that Otto implanted the idea in her in season 1 that all her children will die by Rhynera if she becomes queen. Seasmoke is restless because his owner is still alive and unreachable for him. The bond between dragon and rider lasts until the rider dies. And as far as I know, the dragon does not accept a new rider for so long. If you give such hints that actually don't contribute anything to the story, you can assume that someone believed dead will soon become a topic again, maybe even come back.
I absolutely love how in-depth and how many facets that you really look at in each episode. I’ve watched you before but I saw you again today and I have been. watching your house of dragons playlist first and second season five times today because I’ve learned something new from you and your insights every time I watch it. And you have a very calming voice, so I enjoy listening to that as well. Keep up the amazing work. I wonder if Daemon was dreaming or if he was being influenced by the weirwood. Harrenhal is on the edge of a lake and in the lake is a green isle called the God’s Eye. It’s supposed to be the last sanctuary of the old gods in the south. Maybe its influence is why Harrenhal is so ‘haunted’.
No you're BOTH right. The curse of Harren the black and the old gods are intertwined. Notice the roots of the tree snaking through the walls? Harren built this castle around it, the blood of the thralls he captured watered it. There's literally "blood mixed into the mortar".
Damon says "a son for a son," to Rhaenys at the top of the episode. "A son for a son, he said," the same exact phrase, quoted the murderers. The only 3 options are Aemond, Aegon--which is impossible--and Jaehaerys. He knew what he was doing when he said it. If you give him the benefit of the doubt still, thats a very curious choice.
Three of the eggs Rhaena is bringing eventually become Queen Daenerys Stormborn’s dragons. Edit: to clarify, this is only in show canon. In the book canon, it’s heavily implied that Dreamfyre is the mother of Dany’s dragons.
Dany's eggs are already in Pentos by now (or Braavos, potentially). Dany's three are the children of Dreamfyre (Halaena's dragon) and they crossed the narrow sea before Viserys and Daemon were even born

When Rhaenyra told Alicent that her father was really talking about Aegon The Conqueror you can tell she was like shit what have I done and I love this supernatural stuff they're doing with Daemon cause he's the skeptical one
We do have evidence told B&C "a son for a son". He used the same phrase with Rhaenys at the beginning of the episode. He was lying to Rhaenyra like a child who got caught. And finally said "it was a mistake". That was his confession.
GOT/HOTD/ASOIAF youTuber Joe Magician calls Aegon's little band of lackeys who got promoted to the King's guard the "A Goons" and it cracks me up so much. Thought it would suit your sense of humor as well maybe. For me, this episode has the best writing of any GOT or HOTD episode yet. The narrative, the tension, the momentum - everything going on here - is all totally character driven and the performances all elevate the amazing level of writing on display. I mean even if Alicent tell Aegon that he's not the king that was promised it's Aegon The Conquerer (don't know if I spelled that right 😂) Aegon is gonna be stubborn thinking it's still about him.
And basically sabotage Cole army, because there is no way that he have a chance to win and take Harrenhall without a dragon, but as consolation, at least the Greens would have the death of Rhaenys as consolation, but a very low bar consolation, because the voice of reason in the Black Council would be gone, and only would left anger, fire and blood.
No one rebuilt Harrenhall and only used for war, because it believe that the castle is curse, every family that sit in the Castle after the demise of Harren The Black, had gone extinct, by various reasons.
Agree with you on Daemon. In S1 we saw him mostly from the viewpoint of Rhaenyra and Vicerys and learned his reputation. Now we finally got a moment with him alone, saw hiw viewpoint, him always looking over his shoulder and we even got a peek inside his head. Think that's the first time we saw him display emotions like that. Before we only was his facade or anger.

Thank you for your thoughts on Daemon - I agree, and I'm glad someone thinks the same when it seems like a lot of people ignore how the writers and directors have deliberately made us see Daemon through the lense of other characters, mainly Viserys and Rhaenyra. But when in doubt, I listen very carefully which voice Matt Smith uses when delivering his lines. I've noticed that he uses his tones very deliberately, and you can tell when Daemon is being earnest and when he puts a front up or is being snide, etc. I think one of the biggest grievances that I have about Viserys is that he didn't recognize his brother's tones, which is very sad.
And I have to add that I love how angry Daemon was at Mysaria when he found out it was her who sold him out to Otto about the toast in ep 1 (and in ep 4, but this comment would get thousand words long if we went into that). Mysaria pushed him make a toast at a party while Daemon was actually being somber, Daemon made the toast, Mysaria reported it to Otto, and Otto made Viserys (who had defended Daemon up until that point) see Daemon as the villain. This whole chain of events was done brilliantly, and they did it in such a subtle way that most of the audience probably don't even remember it was Mysaria who pushed Daemon to make that speech in the first place and that Daemon wasn't partying like the rest. Brilliant.
I respect your theory on Daemon, it's very thoughtful. But, I don't think he's not trusted because of a lack of information we are given (us and other characters), but because his decisions seems to do more harm than good. He can be written as a mystery or a highly misunderstood character, however, the decisions he DO make tend to cause chaos, whether or not they are as bad as we "think" they are. A child got killed based on his "not-well-thought-out" plans, regardless if he ever said "A son for a son." Same with young Rhaenyra. He really shouldn't have taken her to the brothel, regardless if he was just being the cool uncle and trying to "educate" her. His decision to do so caused a chain reaction that may not have happened in the end. And he wasn't even there long enough to see the consequences of his influence. He always leaves like the White worm said. His decision making skills are way too questionable (and sometimes downright irresponsible) for him to be perceived as trustworthy. It's really not on us the audience, or the other characters, to know the workings of his mind. He needs to do better lol
Oh no, I'm not saying that this is why he isn't trusted. He's definitely not to be trusted. I was saying that because of history of reckless, crude, or vile behavior, when there are moments like this where maybe it might not actually be the case or intention, we will automatically think it was because of his past actions. It's a bed of his own making in a lot of ways.
Oh absolutely! I agree. But, I think I'm just trying to convey that it's sort of unfair to say that snap judgments are being made against him. Especially after Rhaenrya had an extensive conversation with him about not being able to trust him, even when she wants to or would "will" herself to. It's like she tried to reserve judgment instead, if that makes sense..like turning a blind eye to his antics. If I can explain my perspective better: Daemon's intention could have only been for Aemond to be killed or captured, and he could have never said "a son for a son," but he hires untrained mercenaries and knows/says that Aemond is well trained. Could it be that he makes snap decisions, and we (audience and characters) just view the whole situation as "sketchy" and then pass judgement afterwards with the little facts we have? Because he does things so haphazardly and carelessly, his intentions in question rarely even matter in regards to the incident lol. They actually maybe pure, but does it matter? The facts we do have regarding the situation would have a hand in informing us about his characterization overall, so its not always automatic blaming, at least from my perspective.
The Brackens and the Blackwoods rivalry has been such an ancient feud, you caught a glimpse of it last season when that young Blackwood boy killed a Bracken when both were vying for young Rhaenyra’s hand in marriage. Also, you will note though they mentioned that Lord Samwell Blackwood is dead, so there will be a new Lord Blackwood. In the books, that lordship went to his 11 year old son Benjicot Blackwood, known widely as Bloody Ben, who is a key figure in the civil war fighting for Rhaenyra’s cause. Hopefully we will meet young Lord Benjicot soon in the show.
We Blackwood/Bracken action, Harrenhal, Seasmoke sighting, and Barlow the Brave mentioned (my boy). Scene in the sept was kinda contrived imo, but it was touching/tragic to see them where it all began. I feel like I never appreciated Emma D’arcy properly, they’re killing it
I'm so confused as to why Daemon seems offended when Lord Strong called him, My Prince, rather than, Your Grace. Rhaenyra and someone else (I forget who lol) refer to him as, "Prince,' or, "The Prince,' twice in this episode.
I think it's mostly that his pride has been stung by his fight with Rhaenyra, so the reminder that he's always a prince, never a king, is getting under his skin right now. He wanted a fight at Harrenhal to let off steam and instead got offered supper and a soggy bed with no fight whatsoever, so he's picking petty quarrels where he can.
