The problem with Vaemond is that he's not just going against what the king has said. He's going against both his cousin and his uncle's wishes as well. Laenor accepted the kids as his own, grandpa Corlys accepted them as well. They may be bastards but for all intents and purposes they are legitimized because all three people who can denounce them have approved of them. And Vaemond is going to come in and say it's not for ambition... Come on, Corlys is still alive and you are running off to petition in Kings Landing because you know this is your only chance to grasp for some power. He heard Corlys may survive his wounds and is on his way home, and would shut down his complaints, so he got to Kings Landing before that can happen. Finally, if it was "blood" he was so deeply concerned with, the marriage proposals take care of that issue, ensuring that Valeryon blood stays ruling at Driftmark (and also on the Iron Throne). I really can't stand this guy.
Fun fact that I love and is a common plot point in romance novels is that according to English law titles were passed down to your legitimate children and all that it needed to happen for a child to be born legitimate is that the mother needed to be married by the time of birth and any baby will be by law the husband's child, if we apply this rule to Westeros that means that all of Rhaenyra's children are legitimate she was married by the time of their birth and more so Laenor RECOGNIZED THEM AND TREATED THEM AS HIS CHILDREN so they are his heirs.
When I tell you this episode had me SOBBING! At first I thought it was kinda cheap that they made this a big misunderstanding but I kind of get it since when Rhaenyra came in the night before he thought it was Alicent at first and then that night he thought he was talking to Rhaenyra. Paddy and Eve were amazing in this episode and I feel so bad for both Viserys and Rhaenys.
I felt sorry for him....Paddy did AMAZING, but I was more concerned about how people were gonna screw over his last final plea. Like YALL KEEP TRYING IT!
See, I can and can’t understand the misunderstanding. Rhaenyra made sure that Visery’s knew he was talking to her, made sure he could understand what they were talking about. Alicient, knowing he’s high as kite, kept a conversation going that she didn’t understand, then ran with it full steam ahead.
@@sirimity Alicent heard what she WANTED to hear. I mean he has been giving her and her dad his duties because he was mentally and physically incapacitated…so I mean her taking what he said as gospel is because she WANTS her son on the throne.
What’s crazy to me about the misunderstanding at the end is how Alicent could even mildly logically think that that’s what Viserys wanted. He’s only reiterated that Rhaenyra is his heir 100,000 times throughout the show, he still talks about Rhaenyra’s mother, and he got his dying ass out of his deathbed to come save her earlier in this very episode. Yet she hears some mumbled words she doesn’t understand along with “Aegon” and “unite the realm” in there and that’s enough to convince her that her least favorite son is now the choice of her late husband. They’ll have to sell me on this way harder if I’m ever going to buy it from her, and NOBODY better believe her when she claims Viserys chose Aegon on his deathbed, unless they were already inclined to politically.
There are 3 Aegons; the conqueror, the Elder (Alicents) and the Younger (Rhaenyras) so Alicent REALLY just heard what she wanted cuz he could have been talking about the baby that he just met that day. Especially as she’s knows he’s doped up and confused as shit.
No one has really talked about how Alicent and Viseyris raised these horrible boys because Alicent was pushed into something before she was ready and then Viseyris painted himself into a corner, meanwhile Rhae had kids on her own time if her own will and she and Leo raised truly kind boys. We saw as her eldest told his uncle not to be disrespectful in front of his betrothed and listed to his cousin when she didn't want mess. Alicent never got a chance to mature in her own time and now she's like those women who are stuck with a HS mindset.
😭 What a sad episode. Viserys has been going _so hard_ to support his daughter. He pretty much gave the last of his body's strength to answer Rhaenyra's plea for help and challenge her enemies. Alicent _has_ to be smarter than this. She was working to undermine Rhaenyra and Viserys kicked down the door (spiritually anyway) to shut that shit down. How anyone can think he changed his mind in the last seconds of his life is beyond me.

I think Viserys let her know he was tired of her getting smart when he said anybody else questioning the parentage of Rhaenyra’s sons will lose their tongue. Clearly Daemon held up his brother’s promise when brother Black & Mild went on & on about those boys not sharing his blood. Daemon showed him you WILL NOT disrespect my wife nor stepsons.
The look between Viserys and Rhaenyra as King is walking up to the Throne FOR HER 😭 Rhae is clearly the favourite child and I LOVE IT! Got to say, the promo for this ep confused the hell out of me. Thought we were finally acknowledging Daeron existence, but no. Apparently, Aegon now looks 10 years younger Aemond??! Can we at least get a mention of the fact that Alicent has 4 children before the end of the season please?
They got rid of Daeron for the show. Too many kids to keep track of, so they cut the least important and rolled with it. Plus his death is super open ended, and he was fostered at Oldtown most of his life. He wouldn’t really even be around anyway.
@@kellykapp0wski870 Daeron and Tessarion help win a couple battles. Him coming with the army from Oldtown, is a big deal at the start of the Dance, “Daeron the Daring.” They were also present during the dragonseed betrayal. Plus if we’re supposed to see all the dragons that are mentioned during the Dance of Dragons, his would be among them. I just hope they don’t Laena him and have him appear in one or two eps then die. Him and Helaena are the sweetest of the Greens.
I think they cut Daeron and are going to give some of his most important wins to his brothers. But that will either mean the two other brothers will be doing a lot during the war or some of their story will be cut so it’s not too convoluted. Which sucks because the individual parts all the brothers play in the war are important in my opinion.
It's funny because Tom (Aegon) is actually 7 years older than Ewan (Aemond) and not even 2 years younger than Olivia (Alicent). Tom is a short king. I also think it kind of works because it seems like Aemond is taking a protective stance with his brother Aegon. I noticed how Aegon was getting upset about Jace asking Helaena to dance and he glanced at Aemond. Also when Jace was about to lose his temper, Aemond stood up.
What did we learn today? That Viserys is a BAMF, he walked all the way down from his chambers to the iron throne while in immense pain, only to defend his beloved daughter one last time. That is a king, a father, and a dragon right there.
I think when Healena said beware of the beast beneath the boards, she is foreshadowing. I think it may be blood and cheese, because they come from the secret passages below the red keep

Aemond was remarkably rude when he returned from his triumphant claiming of Vhagar; especially considering he was a guest of the Lord and Lady of Driftmark at High Tide and they had just finished funeral rites for their daughter (whose dragon he had just claimed), and it was Lord and Lady Velaryon's grand-daughters, the children of the dead woman, who Aemond grossly insulted. Aemond is a child, but he's been educated as a prince and by the age of 10 he should know better, especially since Rhaena and Baela had never bullied him and never met him before.
Cole is still around for the same reason Jamie was pardoned for killing Aerys. Cole has a powerful person, Alicent, backing him just like Jamie had Tywin. Viserys is too weak to say no to his wife.

I really think that if it was up to Rhaenera and Alicent, that they would've reconciled and there wouldn't have been a war. But the kids had already been raised to start that war. I think Rhaynera tried to be friends again when she and Alicent sat and talked about the tapestries in episode 2 or3? Then Daemon had to ruin it by taking Rhaynera out and about to "soil" her name. That's when Alicent started to hate her again.
It's ironic that the seemingly 'fake' emotions at the dinner was actually the most authentic we've ever seen them. It was the only time they were NOT putting on their masks. It shows that without the line of succession and primogeniture and all the other royal madness mirroring what existed in medieval Europe, these people could've been really good friends. But the system they lived in destined them to murder each other. It's like being born into rival blocks in southside chicago. You don't have much of a choice. The dinner sequence was so despairing because they all knew it was the last moments of solitude, but at the same time they probably did briefly delude themselves into thinking "maybe, just maybe things will work out". They’re all unwitting participants in a tragic theater that’s about to unfold.

Nah, Viserys finally had his only wish come true. ALL his family seemingly getting along for a single dinner. My man was ready to go on that happy memory. It’s just bad luck that his last doped up words to Rhaenyra, were instead heard and misconstrued by Alicent.
It’s not poison. That’s why rheanyra apologized in her toast because earlier in the episode she insinuating she was poisoning him but they saw it throughout the day it’s just his illness
Also she didn’t kill off Dyana at all. She got her away from Aegon. And send her away with severance. Alicent is unstable and on the edge of insanity. Also what Viserys told Alicent feeds all of her biases. I think if Lucerys ever goes anywhere near Aemond again he won’t make it out of that situation.

First of all, Aemond said terrible shit to his nephews and cousins but we must also remember that Jace and Luke bullied him. Aegon also bullied Aemond, so he felt insecure and maybe a little worthless. I do agree that his timing in claiming Vaghar was off but if Vaghar did not want him as her rider, she would have killed him. For the first time Aemond felt powerful (after claiming Vaghar) but unfortunately did not handle it so good. But he was 10 years old and standing up for himself against 2 of his 3 bullies. Then they attacked him first and from then it was self- defence. He picked up a rock but did not strike with it but Jace actually pulled a knife. Alicent is crazy for sure, but I think she is just fed up with Rhaenyra getting away with things and not baring the consequences for her actions. After Aemond lost his eye, Rhaenyra said that he must be "sharply" questioned which meant in those days he must be tortured. Yet no one did anything about Luke slicing Aemond`s eye. There was no punishment. I understand that Alicent`s behavior was terribly wrong but so was Rhaenyra`s. All this because Aemond spoke the truth about Jace and Luke being Harwin Strongs children. There was no justice.
Context matters. Viserys told Alicent about a (possibly prophetic) dream of seeing his son on the throne. Of course Alicent would interpret Viserys's last words through that lens.
Alicent would interpret them as that because it is convenient for her, not because she truly believes that is his wish, or that is the meaning Viserys was going for. Even ifwe ignore our knowledge of the situation as viewers (knowing what Viserys was actually saying and to whom he thought he was speaking to) and we were sat there with Alicent in that room hearing those words. You are telling me you'd take them to mean he wants his son as heir? Please... He is delirious with pain and just took his drugs, if he had a real change of heart about who should be heir it would've been made clear when he was of sound mind at dinner. Anything he is saying in this state is suspect, and he was not explicit about what he meant at all. No one thinking rationally would take Viserys' final words as sufficient to remove Rhaenyra as heir. Only someone with malicious intentions would.
