as a book reader, Viserys was just a background character for me, but in the show he was so much more! Great actor, great acting!

One of the best lines that GRRM wrote, reading it now from your comment gives me goosebumps as when i first read it.

If you look at his condition in the later years, it would be hard to believe that he was only 52. But i think it was the disease he had which made him look old. Not his actual age. If you look at his appearance in the first 2 episodes, he looks in his late 30s/early 40s. After the 2nd episode, taking into account all the time jumps till this episode, about 20 years might've passed. This would mean he would be in his late 50s or around 60 when he passed away. Which is not very far from 52.

​@@kartikayvashisht422 And also, the major indicator of age is the hair, but the Targaryens already have white hair. So we'd have to look after other physical attributes, such as hair loss, weight, and health, and all of that can be affected by a mortal disease.

Actually in the show he's 55 years old since on the wiki it says he died in 132 AC so he ruled for 29 years, Rhaenyra and Alicent are 35.

Also, Rhaenyra has a son named Aegon.

Actually there is an Aegon in the family tree before king Viserys .. I think from memory there is a total of 8 Ageon's Inc Jon Snow and Jon Snow step brother Ageon .. Rhaegar's first son

Not just nominated, he should have won. This episode in particular, the only other portrayal I've seen of such a powerful example of the pain and regret at the end of life is the music video for the "Hurt" cover by Johnny Cash.

For my mind Viserys is up there with Ned Stark both are in a league of his own as a GOT character someone almost to good for this world but at least he got to live a longer life and see his grandkids.

He didn't even want to marry Alicent, he only did it because he was pressured to do so. I imagine it would be very difficult to love children with a person you never wanted to have kids with in the first place.

Daemon is loyal to his blood, his family and their legacy first and foremost. He loves Rhaenyra because she is pure to him, his niece and the daughter of two Targaryans. He is a Targaryan supremacist for better or for worse, and I wish his brother understood this better about him. He wouldn't have had a fiercer ally and protector than Daemon.

Alicent doesnt know that. Viserys has already expressed doubt in the past. In episode 3 or 4 he speaks with her in the fire and says "What If I was wrong?" I saw in the fire Aegon being crown" etc... that already plants the seeds of Viserys having doubt if Aegon should be the heir. Then, he speaks to Alicent about an Aegon, it's completely normal she thinks is her son, she has no clue Rhaenyra and him spoke before. Specially when Alicent was finally getting closer again with Rhaenyra.

I don't know if he really appreciated alicent and aegon, especially aegon and his kids with alicent in general, it's hard to think of them as viserys' kids you know, and that's a big reason why they turned out the way they did, and alicents influence with her growing resentment for rhae, especially with viserys' not focusing on any of his other kids as much as rhae

Apparently the disease that the king has is meant to be similar to an aggressive type of leprosy. I heard it in an interview with one of the show runners it was George RR Martin's idea.

@@kaboom3423 Alicent just wanted to see Rhaenyra appreciate her duty, because she has sacrificed so much to said duty. Rhaenyra saw she had cared for his dad and apologize for her lies and attitude to her. Alicent felt listenned thus apologized back and saw her as the heir.

Also, sleeping with multiple reason was a lot more dangerous due to STD and a lack of contraceptives.

@@fluffylittlebear They do. It’s mentioned in the books. For example, when Theon’s looking for his squire, he says he’ll beat him if he catches him near one of those poxy whores. For whatever reason, main characters that frequent brothels don’t get it, but they do exist.

The biggest difference is that the claim to the throne is through Rhaenyra, thus her kids' father doesn't matter since they share HER blood and claim. Ntm, Laenor fully knew and supported Rhaenyra in her getting pregnant with someone else to create her heirs and secure her claim. Cersei was cuckholding Robert without him knowing, and her children don't have a claim to the throne since they don't share blood with Robert. Passing off her bastards as Robert's was not the same as Rhaenyra saying her children are trueborn for those reasons.

Not to mention that if the truth ever came out, it would throw the whole line of succession into doubt, the children would likely be exiled or executed and Rhaenyra would be disinherited and sent off to Oldtown to become a septa

in the show it's the skin and the hair, but in the books it's the nose that gives them away

@@Longshanks1690 except they aren't babies. Jace (15), Luke (13) and Joffrey (12) are described to have the same nose, brown hair and eyes (laenor had white hair and lilac eyes)

In the book, Jace, Luke and Joffrey have brown hair and eyes and a flat nose, while Laenor is blonde, with violet eyes and an aquiline nose. Rhaenys has the violet eyes of the Targaryens, but the THREE boys do not have any Targaryen characteristics, it is obvious.

I'm not sure how anyone could look at this king and think 'he's a good man'.

The illegitimate children were recognized by Corlys, Rhaenys and Laenor. That's not supposed to be an issue. And since Luke was going to marry Rhaena, Valaryon bloodline could've continued. Whereas with Robert, I think if he had known Joffrey wasn't his, he wouldn't have let him ascend the throne.

In HOTD, even with the knowledge of their true parentage, Viserys doesn't mind the fact that Jace is to become Rhaenyra's successor as Corlys agreed to Luke inheriting Driftmark. The two rulers in HOTD are fully aware of the situation and agree, meaning that Rhaenyra's children aren't deceiving anyone or committing any crimes to inherit anything. As for Cersei, she committed treason by lying to Robert about Joffrey. And I don't think Ned would support Vaemond as he is not the Master of Driftmark nor does he have any claim to it. If Ned had to choose, he would be loyal to the crown. But honestly, if he could help it, I don't think he'd want anything to do with the south.

they're completely opposite (other than the looks) 1- aemond is calm and trains and studies and respect westrosi laws and traditions WHILE daemon owns brothels and always drunk and lazy and loath westrosi laws and traditions. 2-aemond seeks power because he thinks its his only safe place and he deserve it considering he got bullied for not having POWER WHILE daemon seeks power to have his brother's attention and respect and to prove himself to others that he's someone rather than a drunken depraved prince called "lord of flea bottom". 3-aemond thinks he'll be better king than his brother WHILE daemon wants to prove himself to his brother. 4- aemond used to take care of his older brother aegon WHILE daemon was always have been taken care of by his older brother viserys, so aemond is more of a responible and grown up than rogue daemon. the only thing they share is that both of them are unpredictable

the scene with joffrey was cut because the two infant actors were in the same scene when they arrived to kings landing, the little boys were very irritable so they cut the scene.
