That was his last words. Except he thought he was talking about the younger Aegon to Rhaenyra. But how would Alicent know that? You're blaming Alicent for not being clairvoyant? Viserys is to blame for all of this. Viserys permanently screwed up everything until his last breath. His blind naked favoritism towards his daughter and refusal to understand the resentment it was creating is going to come back to haunt them.
He was talking about Aegon the Conqueror's dream, not Aegon the Elder or Aegon the Younger. Viserys was literally drugged up on milk of the poppy. If the word of a man in that state has that much influence on Alicent then she was always intending on doing what she does. Also, nothing is going to come back to haunt him as he's dead. His descendents maybe. And he wasn't wrong about Rhaenyra needing to be heir as it's literally her descendents who fulfil Aegon's prophecy.
@@icechoc Yes, I think we understand he was talking about Aegon the Conqueror's dream about Aegon VI who will unite the realm against the cold. But Alicent obviously had no way of knowing that. So her only fault was not being clairvoyant. I never said his words alone were motivation. It was simply the tipping point. I think Viserys hypocritically breaking Jaehaerys' order of naming the first male son heir (which put Viserys on the throne to begin with), showing favoritism to his daughter at every turn, pretending he didn't even have other kids, and Viserys' heir siring illegitimate children who would then inherit the iron throne...are reasons enough if I was Alicent. You're right, the prophesy says the descendant must come from Rhaenyra's line. But from Alicent's perspective she's just being cheated out.
