Viserys died 2 days before the season 1 finale and Luke died a day or so after Rhaenyra lost the baby so in about 3 days she lost her father, her son and her stillborn daughter....the season kicks off almost two weeks after Lucerys' death. Jacaerys trying so hard to be the perfect heir and deliver the news that his mission went well only for him to break down which allows Rhaenyra to because he's her eldest and they can lean on each other as mother and son, not Queen and Heir was just heartbreaking...Emma and Harry really killed it Also, its believed that Rhaenyra's dragon Syrax was the mother to Luke's dragon Arrax...both mothers were mourning their sons
I know some people are complaining about the pace of this episode, but it's definitely needed to establish why they're making these rash and brutal decisions: trauma upon trauma, no time for the stages of grief. But we are seeing classic coping mechanims from the protagonists: compensatory responses to regain a sense of control, distractions to keep the mind occupied and not deal, and goal oriented coping in an attempt to be productive. It's their ways of dealing with it- unfortunately it's going to lead to a brutal civil war.

the mourning for lucerys was not only deep for rhaeynera but her dragon, syrax because luke's dragon arrax came from syrax. literally 2 mothers were mourning their children.
this also shows how the greens were small sighted to think in only being attacked from above (dragons) and not from below (the rats, which helaena hinted at). if you were worried about your family being retaliated on, you would have your home as a fort, lock and key to the point where you're almost paranoid because you wouldn't be able to trust who's an ally or not. there are a number of ways to kill someone in this world that you don't need a dragon and the fact that they were not prepared for something like blood and cheese is pretty naive to me. they literally were able to walk through the throne room with aegon and his friends drunk and criston cole, the kingsguard, who should've been doing his job but rather doing alicent. the insanity how anyone could run loose through that castle is wild. tbh, if blacks wanted to wipe out the greens, if not most of them, this would've been a good time b/c of the element of surprise.
On a rewatch, there are a lot of examples in the episode of the Greens being lax and overconfident. Cole, the Lord Commander of the Kingsguard is repeatedly shown away from his post and out of his armor--twice to lay with Alicent, and once to drink and scheme with Aemond. When Helaena says she's afraid, Aegon dismisses her fear out of pocket. When asked about the blockade, Aegon says he can just send Vhagar to destroy it. On the castle battlements, once Vhagar returns, we see the knights take up relaxed postures. Throughout the episode, they talk about how Vhagar makes them invincible. They have gotten overconfident and this event is going to be a brutal reminder of their vulnerability.
It's crazy cause they just learned that aemond kills her son and thought shit was sweet. They underestimate a parents grief. Rhaenyra didn't order blood and cheese but daemon did and he loved Luke too. They were way too confident with vhagar and didnt think they would find another way to retaliate.

Nahh, Otto had a point. It doesnt matter what Rheanyra wants, she would be forced to get rid of Alicent's children directly or indirectly (having someone from her council handle them, someone like Daemon). As for the war, if Viserys listened to Otto and wed Rhea to Aegon, the war could've been avoided but Viserys vetoed that decision. So war was inevitable.
My thing is the only person talking about the Rhaenrya killing Alicent's kids is Otto and Alicent. Rhaenrya has never made any inkling of that and in the books she even wished she had a better relationship with her younger siblings. And so many of Alicents actions are driven by jealously its not honor or duty. I get she was put in a tough situation and forced to marry but her anger at rhaenyra is based solely on her jealously that she got choices and she didn't, cause behind closed doors shes not following none of that

Even though Aegon and Aemond don't like Rhaenyra (thanks to Alicent and Otto), they were fine with Rhaenyra being the next Queen because they saw what their father did to solidify her claim (although, Viserys could have done much better to support Rhaenyra's claim). i also believe aemond murdered luke, whether it was intentional or not. i won't blame it on the dragons b/c the dragons didn't need to be put into that position. aemond did what bullies always do. he put arrax into a position where he had to defend himself and his rider. he felt threatened and knowing that the dragons can sense their riders emotions, luke was likely terrified so arrax spewed fire, forcing vhagar to react. aemond thought he could control her and he couldn't. none of them really do. viserys said back in s1 that the idea that targaryens can control dragons is a myth, an illusion. even dany had issues controlling drogon at certain points in game of thrones. we only saw a small hint of regret and shock on aemond's face after luke died but his continued smug attitude annoys me so much. only 1 of the greens i feel bad about is helaena, not alicent. if people actually listened to helaena a lot sooner, maybe certain things could've been avoided.
Aemond is too dangerous, childish and is run by his emotions. He's a liability. He used vhagar like some toy. He knew he messed up in the moment, but now is acting all tough around others because what's done is done. There's no explanation or apology that'll fix it. War would have happened regardless, but he lit the match, officially.
Try and think. Yes it wasnt intentional to kill Luke but it was murder, Aemond is at fault. Viserys told only his first born daughter that dragons should not be trifled with. Crazy how these Targaryens have so much disgust for bastards, but Rhaenyra's bastards are literally the only kids that are/were perfect heirs (r.i.p. Luc). Jace breaking down while reporting to his mother literally had me crying so hard. He's the only one worthy of the iron throne imho.
Daeron, Alicent's third kid, was described as courteous, clever and gentle, and also was studing at Oldtown (center of knowledge in the continent) so that sounds like a good heir to me.
Perfect kids do not bully other kids. If they do, they at least apologize for it when they know better. They also do not laugh at someone's trauma. They also would break up a fight rather than turn the fight into a gang up.

Daemon showed Rhaenyra in season 1 their subjects mocking her and favoring Aegon. She didn't really care, but he did and wanted to plant that seed in her mind. Daemon would def go on a solo mission to assassinate them without telling her. I don't think Rhaenyra would act until provoked like they did now, usurping the crown and killing her son.
if Alicent agreed to marry Jace and Helaena together there might not have a dance. Rhaenyra even in the books did not want to kill her siblings, esp Helaena.

Alicent was never forced to do what she did. Her options weren’t usurp or her family dies. Rhaenyra never treated her siblings poorly, never spoke ill of them, or held evil intent towards them. All of Alicents fears came from her father instilling that fear into her.

The history books remember Aegon as the true king cause he didn’t usurp what was his to inherit. The scene where Rhaenyra comforted her child when he became emotional while giving report was excellent. The agony on her face was so real. Really exceptional work. I am team black all day. I haven't felt bad for Alicent since Viserys drunkenly made fun of her for asking if Damon wanted to see the new tapestries.
No, Alicent wasn't forced to do this. There was no true threat to her children. Rhaenyra tried again and again to assure this, for example, when she offered that Helaena be betrothed to Jace, to unite both sides of the family and eliminate any need or threat to wipe out other claimants to the throne, and Alicent kept refusing them. I think Alicent partially believes she's doing it to protect them, but she's not. When Otto told her that Rhaenyra would have no choice but to kill her siblings to take the throne, he was lying to scare her and is the one pushing for that to make Alicent believe it but Rhaenyra wasn't going to do that. "There is none more accursed than a kinslayer". In the books, Aegon only agreed to take the throne because Criston spoke to him alone and made him fear for his and his children's lives by convincing him that Rhaenyra would kill them all. But when Rhaenyra heard that her brother took the throne, she defended him! She said that her brother had been lied to by traitors and she would not be a kinslayer (someone who killed their kin/family, it was considered the greatest of evils in the eyes of the gods) and invited her brothers and sister to Dragonstone to bend the knee and she would forgive all crimes against her and welcome them back into her heart. The exact quote about all this is I think "Her first act as Queen was to declare Ser Otto Hightower and Queen Alicent traitors and rebels." "As for my half-brothers and my sweet sister Helaena, they have been led astray by the counsel of evil men. Team Black from day 1! Alicent put herself in this position. It's not her fault that her father manipulated her from childhood. But her jealousy of Rhaenyra is what has led to this mess. Rhaenyra wasn't ever gonna kill her and her kids after becoming Queen. And I don't feel like Alicent really believed Viserys changed his mind at the last minute. But Alicent felt she and her kids were already second to Emma and Rhaenyra in his heart, so she was gonna grasp at any straw to put herself on top and get what she felt she was owed. I was, at least, sympathetic to her until she got the Hand and Breakbones killed.
A lot of people who read the Book Fire and Blood don't like what they did with Cheese and Blood because they changed things. I'm going to give my opinion on the whole episode, so I liked the episode but I expected more from the episode, about the blood and cheese I thought it was cool but it could be much better. I'm going to talk now about what really happened in the Book Fire and Blood. Blood and Cheese is one of the darkest moments of the civil war between the Targaryens,known as the Dance of the Dragons. After receiving information about Luke's death at the hands of Aemond, the Black Council met at Dragonstone and received a raven from Prince Daemon, who at that time was in Harrenhal. "An eye for an eye, a son for a son," wrote Prince Daemon."Lucerys will be avenged." Thus begins one of the bloodiest chapters of Dance. "Let it not be forgotten: in his youth, Daemon Targaryen was the Prince of the City, his face and his laughs were familiar to all the pickpockets, whores and gamblers of Flea Bottom. The prince still had friends in the lowest reaches of King's Landing and followers among the gold cloaks. Unbeknownst to King Aegon, the Hand, or the Dowager Queen, he also had allies at court, even on the green council... And another intermediary, a special friend whom he trusted completely, who knew the taverns and rat pits that festered in the shadows of the Red Keep, as Daemon himself had known, and moved with ease in the shadows of the city. He sought out this pale stranger then, by secret means, to enact terrible revenge." The hidden doors and secret tunnels Maegor the Cruel had constructed were as familiar to the exterminator as they were to the rats he hunted. Haelena is the only decent one of the greens and I felt so sorry and sick for her at the end of this episode. And she keeps forseeing her families death they need to listen to her. I know she don't make alot of sense but shes a seer basically they need to be paying attention to her

TEAM BLACK ALL DAY BABY! they are crazy on all sides but i threw my lot in with Rhaenyra long ago so now I'm just gonna ride it out Harry Collet (Jacaerys Rhaenyra's eldest) finally got to wear his actual hair instead of a wig and it definitely made him look older. So looking forward to more of his character this season alongside Baela (Daemon's eldest) they're some of my favorites from Fire & Blood

Not gonna lie it gets quite obnoxious to see and hear people interpreting the show in such a black a white simplistic way when both the show and the source material strives towards the opposite, Sure Rhaenyra is the righfull ruler and Aegon is quite the problematic person, but there are shades of gray in all of them. Aegon himself is an interesting characters far from being the one dimensional psychopathic monster that Joffrey was. The so called team green are the antagonists of the show in a narrative way, but i find it such a waste to just simplify them all crazy and that's it.

What was he to do? If he rejected her he risked her anger and retribution. She could lie and he would’ve been tortured and executed anyway because her word supersedes his. Cause he's the heir generally queens would value the heirs more but ironically in helaena case she might see the son as unhappy which is why she gave him up.
