Why tho? She could have survived if she just accepted to lost the village.. she already made somes damages on 2 dragons, saw the king badly injured and killed a big part of the enemies.. if she retreated that would have been a total victory
I actually think it was the most horrifying scene of both series, & I don’t say that lightly. It genuinely was deeply upsetting to watch. In all the episodes of both series, it’s the first time I ever totally lost it.. just gutted me. I was bawling like it was real, & felt rage toward Aemond. It was visceral. I wanted to rip him apart. Guess that means everyone did their jobs perfectly. That episode deserves an Emmy.
@gennaro4941 well i actually didnt think fire affected dragons whatsoever but it burned sunfyres wing. My issue is more with how stealthy vhagar is when shes so old and big. Minor criticism though because it was great.
@@dshepherd107 I felt vindication for Aemond. Aegon should never have been king. He wasn't ever raised to be fit to rule. And well... Rhaenys and Meleys... I mean, she chose that outcome when she got Meleys back from the dragon pits.
I really like how Aegon is actually bad at High Valyrian and likely didn’t fully understand Aemond when he was talking to him. And Aemond 100% fired on his brother on purpose.
Yeah. But what I don't get is how all the lords either don't speak high valyrian or Aemond expect them not to. If you are a lord at such a high place and your liege-lord (king here) speaks a language they use to keep you in the dark, that language would be the first I would learn to the extent I would at least understand it.
@@rb3872problem is it’s a sacred language & people who speak high valyrian are of valyrian descent (targaryen & valeryon) so goodluck finding someone around who’ll teach you
Rhaenys looked so heartbroken when she realized Melys was dead and a second later she looked content, knowing that she’d join her at the end of her fall. Beautiful scene
@@A9uafina97 Cole is a great fighter and a good leader. So he banging the chic who doesn't know what she wants. She also killed their kid. Why should he die?
I agree, I started to tear up. IMO, the look Meleys gave Rhaenys was a "I tried my best but it wasnt enough and Im sorry I couldnt defeat Vhagar for you" .........gaaaaahhhhhhhh :(
@@Mrjesse451 This moment, along with Sunfyre's cry as they fell from the sky, broke my heart. I know dragons aren't real in our world l, but in aSoIaF, they very much alive.
A flying football field with troubles in taking off. Where the hell did she come from anyway? There was only water behind the castle, didn't hear no splash or anything 🤔
I also find it really interesting how Alicent and Rhaenyra treated their eldest sons this episode. Alicent practically told Aegon he was useless in a moment of Aegon’s vulnerability. He opens up to his mother about his insecurity, people don’t respect his authority king or not. Then, she basically shoots him down. “What would you have me do, Mother?” “What is required of you-absolutely nothing.” Which led Aegon to get drunk and choose to go into battle himself. Meanwhile, there’s Rhaenyra telling Jacaerys the Song of Ice and Fire. She’s sharing an important secret because she trusts her own son. An interesting contrast between two mothers.
Aegon is immature and needs someone to bring him down a notch - he clearly does not respect those with more experience and spends his time getting drunk with his buddies. The power has gone to his head and he only wants war and violence…he is not interested in any other ideas but his own… Whereas Jahearys has shown maturity and restraint. This was abundantly clear at Veserys last dinner where Aegon was belittling J and L, while also putting H as his wife down - J was bigger man and asked H to dance… But, then again Aegon wasn’t raised with any expectations- so he is free to live a wild, carefree life….J was raised with higher expectation
Man....that Meleys look back to Rhaenys like "We doing this?" And her look of acceptance and duty to try and eliminate the biggest threat the Greens had. That hit hard. Went out like a boss on their own terms.
I got the real GoT feeling with this episode, getting close to the Red Wedding, and Joffreys wedding episodes. The dragon-fight was epic. The CGI nowadays is astounding.
@@Mrjesse451 for sure, two birds one stone. Also why he waited to fly from his hiding spot, thought he'd let Aegon get killed and hopefully damage Meleys whilst at it
I had this visceral hatred for Aegon but now I feel horrible for him. He wasn't a motherless child who no one loved, he had a mother who had no interest in him because he wasn't an heir. He was overlooked for all of his life, lifted to a position he didn't want and when he finally wanted it, wasn't capable of fullfilling his role as a king. His child was killed, one he obviously loved, he was mocked and overlooked when he tried "I did not ask for this! I try so hard but it will never be enough for you or father." This broke my heart.
@@loveless4304 agree, he really wants to be a good king but nobody was interested on helping him and then Alicent, the hypocritical cnt of a woman mocks him when he is in his lowest.
I feel the same way. Their bond reminds me of dogs, and we know that these are the last of these majestic and rare beasts. Each dragon death decreases the dragon population by like 12%.
The Dragons are far more valuable than people. And the bond with their riders reminds of the bond between people and dogs but on another level, as mentioned by another commenter
This show man.. my God... wish we could see more Daemon and Aemond doing their thing but holy hell this show is amazing g .. rip Rhaenys and Meleys, these had become my fav duo 😢
the only thing I don't like is the surprise factor. Of course, many of us already know how the story unfolds. The fate of Rhaenira was already spoiled by Joffrey on GOT. Even this video already tells that Aegon II is still alive, although this is unclear from the last episode's ending. The episodes are made in a way to surprise the viewer. Like designed for viewers who do not know the story. For example, Vhaegar comes out of nowhere and kills the dragons. This already happened last season, and again in this last episode. I would have preferred a straight battle, rather than pointing all to the surprise factor. Of course, if you have not read the book nor watch any video on youtube about the dance of the dragons, then the surprise factor works for you.
If by that you mean that you want to see them fight, then that is a long time off still, I think. Maybe 3rd season middle at this point, or if they renew the show for 4th season, then somewhere at the start. But that's my feeling only
Hats off to sunfyre who managed to turn round so Aegon wasn’t killed by the fall. I loved their little bop before he climbed sunfyre. It was cute and I kind of loved their innocence. My princess and red Queen fought so hard. I am gutted. 😞
It’s so telling who would make the better ruler. Rhaenyra and Aegon had the same father, yet have totally different states of mind. The mother is the key to me. Alicent is the issue, but also the sacrifice. It’s poetic, but needless to say, team BLACK🧠
We should also commend Sunfyre for being an absolute badass. A Dragon that is not clearly built for battle (Because of it’s naturally slender build) went into battle while never having any experience. Sunfyre could have disobeyed Aegon but chose to attack one of the most veteran Dragons of the Dance. He gets his stomach ripped open yet still continues to fly. Then gets attacked in his wing which loses his ability to fly. Bites off Meley’s horns and attacks her neck. Then gets burned alive by the strongest and most powerful Dragon. To then fall from a great height and spin his body around to land on his stomach to save Aegons life. And yet Sunfyre still survived. An absolute menace for such a young Dragon.
Yeah, he's starting to become my favorite. Can't wait to see his progression. Though, I've already spoiled it for me. I don't like how Vhagar keeps doing these like stealth sneak attacks. He's the biggest damn dragon around and I'd assume slow, lumbersome, old and lazy etc. But tough. Weird how that's twice he's not totally surprised someone.
@@jonny-b4954 Vhagar is also the most experienced. It's not like Vhagar hit the ground and stayed there. As soon as she hit the ground, she started running to fly again. The battlefield was covered in smoke, fog, and clouds overhead. It's like anything to do with killing. The easist way to kill something is when they don't expect it. So Vhagar used the cliff side to gain an advantage. Staying low and waiting for Meleys to just come over the cliff. I personally don't have a problem with how it went.
@@royee3542 not because of Rhaenyra's superior wisdom, but because at first he had no heir, and had a brother who was unstable to be named heir. At his later stages, he just did not want to disappoint his daughter by naming Aegon. If people want someone to hate, it should be Viserys, he had no balls. Even when his daughter birthed bastard Sons, he turned a blind eye. This was was brewing way before he even died, and he saw it but did nothing.
Even though it wasn't the 2 on one from the books I'm glad they still showed Vaghar could only win with a sneak attack, my heart broke, the red queen was truly a beautiful badass 🔥
@@robinlovestosing I couldnt handle it! was sooo heart broken when Maelys looked at Rhaenys right as she took her last breath. Like...im sorry mom!!! 😭😭😭💔💔💔
What’s described in the books of I’m not mistaken is subjective history recounting from an unreliable narrative. What we saw would be reported by many on the ground as a 2v1. We just got the privet of seeing exactly what happened up close and knowing character motivations.
I had a feeling Rhaenys was on her way out when they starting building up her character in the last couple episodes. Giving her big moments. Counseling Rhaenyra. GOT makes you really love a character before they kill them haha
This had to be one of the absolute most intense episodes I ever watched. I must say it literally shook me to my very soul. Great acting and I had to keep reminding myself that no dragons were harmed during the making of this!! 😂😂😂 seriously a rollar coaster of emotions. I'm pregnant and had to stop this one and actually calm down. It was friggin AWESOME!! 👌 ❤💪💯
Gotta HIGHLY disagree that Aemond was already sheathing his sword when approaching Aegon on the field. I REALLY think he was going in for the finishing blow, and the only reason he didn’t was because Criston happened to show up right at that moment.
I disagree, it was clear he was moving to sheath the sword, before he became aware of Aemond. Besides, had he stabbed Aegon - it would have been clear that he didn't die from the fall and the dragon fight, and what motive would a green soldier have to do that, besides Aemond?
There’s never been a character death that affected me more than Rhaenys and meleys. Eve’s acting was so amazing I genuinely felt like she was a real person with a bond so beautiful with her fantasy dragon.
@@MrThe1234guyyou’re delusional. This show has started off stronger than GoT did and is more consistent. I will say this episode was fantastic but I agree it didn’t surpass GoT at its peaks. It’s just a good one.
I don't think they would have Cole yell to Aemond if they didn't want us to think he was going to kill the king. Just as he just walks off after seeing him completely uninterested in helping him.
Rheanys probably went back into to battle because she knew her and Meyles probably couldn't outrun Vagar in a long open air trip. It kind of forces you fight and have a better chance and dealing critical damages.
Ppsht! The red queen was the fastest dragon there was, like ever. Shes know for her agility. She would have smoked vhagar on the escape. Dragonstone was not that far.
The connection Meleys and Rhaenys had with each other...despite being badly injured fighting Vaegar...Meleys understood Rhaenys was not giving up and went back one last time 😢
Meleys fought ferociously, despite being one against the 2 large dragons. And if you are on the same page Meleys had the upper hand in dealing with vhagar face to face until she got murdered by vhagar's ambush attack.
I know the dragons and the character are not real however, when Rhaenys and Meleys look at one another it broke my heart. It go to show you how great of a job they did on this one. I sure not the only one but I felt bad for all the dragon the whole time.
It’s amazing any Targaryen’s are walking around considering how consistently they make the stupidest choices. It’s like they want to die rather than actually win.
I'm really going to miss Rheanys. She was always so level headed and restrained. I always think about the Queen she could have been. She is amazing! R.I.P. Rheanys!
You called it bro . The scene with aemond trying to kill aegon , u called it . This is why I trust this channel since I began watching game of thrones shortly after season 7s release .ur the man . U been out here . Making all these other pretenders look silly
Yea bro. Freaking pretenders. This guy is the guy. He does that, and handles that. He been saying these things on point. He is the one calling it. Nobody else could do what he does. This guy is the guy he’s the bro. The bro of bros he’s not like the other ones. Bunch of phonies. He called it. I only trust him and only him. We should start a cult and follow him
It irritates me the Hightowers are the cause of all these dragons killing each other. Why did the king even marry out the blood. He is partly at fault for marrying Alicent Hightower, should’ve never let a man who been grasping for power for 2-3 kings crazy
Everytime I see Vhaegar I feel like I'm watching more of a horror fantasy. It's actually kind of neat how different she is from the other dragons. More like a giant dinosaur.
Wow Rhaenys and Meleys are probably the most badass female characters in GoT imo. They knew they were the only ones who could take Vhagar down and didn’t turn their back on the battle when they had the chance 😢 such amazing storytelling
The Greens key is Aemond and Vhagor without these the greens are lost .They should concentrate on decapitating them . Demound was right Caraxes and Meleyes would of taken them out . Everything Deamon has Tried to do has been to win for the blacks be it for himself or for the bigger picture. He tried to respond fast but was told to chill he wanted to take out Vhagor with Meles but was told to chill. Had they planned it out then two could of taken out Vhagor crippling the Greens
9:49 "Thinks he's about that action" my thoughts exactly 💀

Yeah, I think Aemond was killing 2 birds with 1 stone. Partly because there appeared to be no hesitation as you would expect for someone trying to think of another way. But my main reason for thinking so is because of a few minutes prior. When Aemond and Vhagar got their signal from Cole and were getting ready to take off, Aemond sees Sunfyre. He mutters, "Idiot…" then tells Vhagar to wait. So, despite being given the signal for him to come, Aemond chooses to lie in wait a little longer, but only after he learns that Aegon is there. Instead of hurrying to his king's side to protect him, he intentionally hangs back, leaving Aegon more vulnerable
Vhagar is badass. Its ironic seeing a very huge dragon of them all sneaking up unnoticed. R.I.P for the courageous Queen that never was and her badass dragon Meleys. Their bond was inseparable.
I don’t think Raenys could’ve gotten away, I think she knew Aemond would’ve went after them and hunted them down so she just went all in. Meleys was banged up, Vaghar would’ve been on them quickly
The dance of dragons in the sky scene was purely breath taking. I haven’t ever seen nothing quite like it, I can’t explain how amazed I was to see that. Hands down one of the coolest moments in GOT/HOTD history. Anyone else still feel the tremors from that episode?
Aemond had just gotten off his dragon, so it looked odd that he was unsheathing his sword until he saw Criston, then he sheathed it (that was my impression). He was on the ground with his team, the Greens, so he had no reason to have his sword out unless . . . evil intentions.
@@basinga9693My thinking is it comes from back near the end of S1 when she was asked why she didn't finish Aegon and co off at his crowning and she had escaped. This time around she was determined to end them both, or to die trying.
"Vhagar is the oldest and largest living dragon in Westeros"; "Vhagar suddenly emerged out of nowhere". Interesting. This stealthing gimmick of Vhagar is getting old real quick if I'm honest. Just 1 scene before she was struggling to take off while stomping half of the green's forces and now all of a sudden she's clinging on cliffs or hovering stealthily over the water? C'mon... big fail.
Aemond's character is ruined. Not only did they ruin his loyalty to his brother and family but they also made him a complete idiot who thought it was a good idea to try to kill a dragon that was on his side when Rhaenyra already has a numerical advantadge when it comes to dragons. Vhagar now stands practically alone against at least 4 dragons.
That's one way to look at it, but here's another: Aemond and Cole had already forged this plan in order to weaken Rhaenyra's forces. This strategy of cutting off Dragonstone was designed to lure out a dragonrider, no matter who. Vhagar is the most powerful dragon in the war and the plan had merit. Aegon's stupidity caused him to get involved in a plan he was never included in, and Aemond went ahead when it was obvious that Meleys was too strong for Sunfyre. He harbours resentment towards Aegon for the years of mistreatment at his hands, but didn't intend to kill him. They're adding multiple shades of grey to him, as he is VERY much like Daemon in terms of personality, intelligence and cunning.
@@nzmetalhead correct. also, for the moment, the strongest dragon of the Blacks will be Caraxes andthe other dangerous dragons are riderless until somehting changes, so it would be logical to decimate their force one by one before they might be able to use vermithor etc.
I’d be surprised if we see another episode with Jace and Cregan because to my knowledge he doesn’t revisit Winterfell anymore times by this point in the book. They show would have to come up with a new storyline as to why he’d be back in winterfell. It’s really a shame because that first episode could have been all about showing Jace’s potential to rule and his ability to negotiate, while also telling us a bit more about the north’s beliefs- just how much they knew about white walkers etc .
I have very little emotion when a character dies in these shows aside from some of the main ones however, whenever we lose a dragon, I'm knocked out. What an episode, what a fight! Keep watching it over a week later...
