For more of a "thirst trap" (and some great singing), you should check out Geoff, Geoff, Geoff and Geoff do "Sixteen Tons". The song that introduces most people to Voiceplay really shows off Geoff's range - "Oogie Boogie's Song" from A Nightmare Before Christmas.

Geoff is a phenomenon. When you consider that it's his arrangement, production, editing in partner with his wife Kathy. He has only been doing solos since the pandemic hit and Voiceplay could no longer tour. Hulda is correct, his cover of I See Fire is the best he's done (and that's saying a lot).

Geoff's best solo work (my opinion of course) has to be "Far Over the Misty Mountains Cold" from The Hobbit. I highly recommend checking it out! Great reaction video by the way, it's a lot of fun watching y'all take this journey down the Voiceplay / Geoff rabbit hole!

Hi ladies, I'd suggest you to take a look at two Geoff's videos that are strictly related one to each other. The first one is "Far over the Misty Mountains cold", from the first movie in "The Hobbit" trilogy; and the second one, his most recent release, is "I see fire", from the second movie of the Trilogy. Those will show you not only what Geoff is capable of, but also how much he improved in the last couple years. And both of them are astounding. Remember, it's always only him in the videos... He wears different outfits and complex makeups in those, many didn't understand it was only him in four disguises. 🙂 Geoff, like Voiceplay, does everything himself... Arrangement, performing, video, editing (but for the final audio editing, which is made by Ed Boyer), and decides set, costumes and whatever else. Eli often does the lighting, Layne does some camera work (both from Voiceplay). Geoff's wife Kathy is the Production Manager for both VP and Geoff. And works on some costumes as well. They are fully independent... 🙂 See you next time!

I think a lot of your viewers will recommend Geoff's cover of I See Fire from the Hobbit. However, he has previous video also from the Hobbit call Far Over The Misty Mountains Cold. He uses the same costumes in both and you really get to hear a lot of his range. While it would make for a longer video if you reacted to both songs in a single video I think your viewers would really like it.

Geoff has a lot of solo work, as well as work with the group VoicePlay. He also arranged Elvira for Home Free I believe, and VoicePlay "Hoist the colors" is amazing. Check out more of his solo work, including Sixteen Tons, Headless Horseman, Blackbird etc...the only issue I have with older Geoff and VoicePlay videos is that the bass drop seems more of a gimmick than fitting the song....but most of the newer titles over the past several years have been fantastic.

Singing with continuous lyrics and phonation is definitely different from being a bass as a backup role. He was singing like a normal bass here. With VoicePlay, he doesn't have to carry a full vocal line, so his approach is going to be different. His lead role for Voiceplay's "Valhalla Calling" was a bit different, too, because he was purposely darkening the sound by placing his voice further back. With his rendition of "House of the Rising Sun" he was singing more with a forward placement, which gives it a brighter tone... he was still singing pretty deep; just with a brighter tone.
@Jemraine
@Jemraine Год назад
I recommend one of VoicePlay’s earlier songs, Oogie Boogie’s Song (from A Nightmare Before Christmas). Geoff sings lead, and shows off a range of about 4 1/2 octaves. Another VoicePlay cover worth checking out is In The Hall Of The Mountain King. No words, just vocal music, and with a female guest.

Not only does Geoff provide all of the vocals on his videos, he also does all of the musical accompaniment as well. He's an excellent keyboard/piano player, and he uses plug-ins on his keyboards to provide other instruments - guitars, strings, percussion, etc. Recommended: Sixteen Tons (the first time I heard Geoff solo - OMG!), I See Fire (his latest, and IMO his best so far), Man of Constant Sorrow (If you've heard Home Free's version, this is a very different take on the song), Monster Mash (you may want to save this one for Halloween)

IMO, the 3 most Popular A Cappella bands have Bassist that can sing in all the ranges. Low, Medium, High and Very High. Tim Foust from HOME FREE, Avi Kaplan from used to be Pentatonix and Geoff Castellucci from Voice Play. But, I don't know for sure that other groups don't have the same thing. THAT is a great example of Popularity make even the miniscule thing important. BUT, if anyone can challenge Tim Foust, I think Geoff can. Great Post, Ladies.

Oh my sweet summer ladies. Sadly, in my opinion, this is an above average performance, but there were so many other good ones for your first solo reaction to Geoff. Ah well. There's only two songs, so far, that I highly recommend listening to on a full stereo setup. I think even high quality headphones miss some of lower end. VoicePlay's cover of "Can't Help Falling In Love With You" and Geoff's "Mele Kalikimaka" (featuring The American Sirens.) For some good solo Geoff bass, "Big Bad John", "Sixteen Tons", "Far Over the Misty Mountains". As usual, though, you really can't go wrong on any of his songs.

I love Geoff and VoicePlay, but I sometimes feel like he overdoes the bass drops. It’s like he just throws in crazy low notes at random and it doesn’t always fit the song. Sometimes it detracts from the song to me. That’s the difference from Tim in my opinion. Very rarely does Tim just throw in a low note just for the heck of it. His low notes feel like they belong to the song and fit the harmonies better. Not to take away how amazing Geoff is, but that’s just my thoughts coming from a choir and quartet background.

As a Bass Vocalist myself I was a little offended at first when you were accusing us of only singing 1 note, but then I stopped and thought about it and was like, yeah that's fair. Although I would say that's more descriptive of Altos. The Bass line typically has at least 5 notes. 2 in our higher range, 2 in our comfortable lower range, and 1 LOW note that the "barely-a-tone" (baritone) wishes he could hit. 😂

The best version of this song is by the animals a British rock band in the 60's, no one really knows who wrote it , some say it came from an English folk song , some say it was taken from a song called she was a rum one, also its said the lyrics came from an action magazine in 1925, who knows, like all folk songs they get passed on verbally and changed over time, however listen to the animals singing it, it's brilliant, got to number 1 in the UK, US and Canada...

Yep, I'm told I used to have the "Sweetest Boy Soprano" voice that could sing higher than anyone in our church. I remember when my voice dropped. I got a cold and lost my voice completely for about 5 days and when it came back it had completely dropped. I was very unsure of it for a while because I'd only ever sang high, but once I got used to it I was suddenly singing lower than anyone in our church! I hit my lowest range in College when I was in Choir and working on my vocal range every day. That was a few years ago and since graduating I haven't had much practice and have lost quite a bit of range. If memory serves me right at my lowest I was confident on C2, but my lowest was somewhere around G1-A1. Lots of good memories from those times.

I didn't grow up listening to his style of music much, but my dad recommended I check him out and wow! What a VOICE! I found there were several incredible Bass singers in more of that Southern Gospel genre of music. I've played around trying to figure out Subs, but I've never quite figured it out. I've gotten them once or twice, but those were more accidents than anything else. I'm a little better at some of the growl notes that Tim Foust does, but I've just struggled with Subharmonics. My Mom used to laugh and love it when I'd get up in the mornings and walk over to the piano and test myself to see how low I could go. I never really counted those notes though because it wasn't a true representation of how low I could confidently sing. I wasn't a music major in College, but because I was in Choir a bunch of my friends were and music is something I've always loved and had an ear for. 2:03 Spontaneous ovulation. It never fails. Sixteen tons would be a good experience. Then try Home Free, particularly Man of Constant Sorrow as a starter. Tim Foust is the bas in that group and just as amazing as Geoff. Tim has broken PS systems with his voice.

There's little less enjoyable than people who think they're funny, and then laugh at their own humor...sorry, but I'm passing on these three.

Just found out at Christmas this year I’ve been shyly singing alone in my car in the wrong key my entire life. Thank god because I suck! I tried to sing deep and holy crap after 6 months of practicing I can match Jeoff note for note in this song, Big John, 16 tons, and Country roads. Can do ok on oggie boogie
