I had the rare delight of seeing John perform in Belfast many years ago, when, along with some of my friends, my life was changed forever.

This summer, in Keswick, Cumbria, there was a very earnest folk busker. He began singing The House Of The Rising Sun. My sons and I joined in with the requisite interjections, a la Otway. He didn't see the funny side.........We did though, and so did his girlfriend

Am pleased to say I have shared an evening on stage with John. What a nice bloke, and a Legend!

Hi John seen you a few times but the best was when you played the Riley Smith Hall in Leeds Uni, sometime in the early 80's. Got the whole gig on tape. Brilliant.

The guy is an alround performer. I mind seeing him on the old grey whistle test in 78 with Wild Willy Barratt. John jumped on top of Willy's amp and nearly broke his neck when he fell off.

I thought he was nuts 30 years ago, now I know he's really really nuts and I like it ! :)

First time I saw him live I thought what the ***** when I heard this - but when you get it you realise he is a living legend. His autobiographies are a brilliant read too. He deserves to be Sir John Otway if there was justice.

It's funny a gig with no more than 40 in the audience should now have been seen by +30,000 people...
