please tell me how to decide which position the short stick man should stand.

For the most part, the shorty goes in one of the low corners because you don't want the shooters up top to have their hands free because of a short stick up top.

To some degree this depends on personal… who you have, who commited the penality and who you are playing. I do disagree with Patrick. I like to keep my wing defensemen in their wing position. they have been playing there and they ahve the best feel of that area of the field. I like putting my short stick middie in the top right position. I want that defenseman to force his man to the offense man to his left hand. and i think the short stick man can do that even with the short stick. again different coaches different approaches.
