Hey coach, if a player pops off the crease to the backside of the formation, what would be the easiest way to adjust to cover? particularly if another player is filling the crease?

Adjust and rotate to it. Once the player pops off the crease, the next adjacent is responsible for covering in the 5 man.

I like to coach the verbiage a little different. The man on the ball is “BALL”, the men next to the ball are “NEXT” ( every knows whether you are right or left by where the voice is comming from - Also so this may be because i dyslexic. For me to know right from left I had to write it on my hand/gloves). Then there is the “2” call. There may be a “CREASE" call if we are doing something special with the crease. These are the same calls wheather we are even, man down rotation, or 2 man down rotation. KISS. The most important part of defense is talk… Every day, every practice, ever game.

That's a great modification for sure. I've never heard "next" for the adjacents. Definitely a valid form of communication.
