let's talk about the struggles of being a (hotel) housekeeper!
contrary to popular opinion, being a hotel housekeeper is much more difficult and strenuous than anyone really seems to think. you are expected to do SO much in only half an hour, and you truly have to push yourself to your breaking point to succeed, not even to mention the level of perfection the job demands.
In this video, I'll talk about my experience as a hotel housekeeper, what I learned, and what you really need to know if you plan on becoming one.
I hope y'all are well! stay well, stay safe, and stay informed.
xoxo,
gabby

I’m in housekeeping I just started and I absolutely love it I worked at FedEx and nothinggggg is harder than FedEx when it comes to working consistently for hours 😭😭😭I love housekeeping so far I would rather fold 600 towels than lift 400 30 pound chewy boxes for 4-6 hours 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

I did housekeeping in a hotel for about a week and quit it was very particular. Housekeeping in the hospital is a living hell. Cleaning offices is much better if you want to get into cleaning.

i used to do all sorts of housekeeping - residential, hotel, and for a retirement home. while the retirement home was the grossest, the hotel was definitely the hardest. sometimes i miss housekeeping in general but this video reminded me of how hard it is. i freaking HATED making the beds and tucking the pillows! and the beds used to be so gross--i would see pools of period blood, sweat, hair dye that rubbed off onto the pillows, crumbs and spilled beverages, piss, dirty underwear, CONDOMS,,,, it really wouldn't be so bad if there were no beds.what i do like is that you're always moving and doing something and you get to go home early if you finish early.

I worked in housekeeping at Hyatt for two years. We only got 29 minutes per checkout but 15 minutes for each over night guest. It was hard but the general manager had a good bonus system for us. There was a “particular “ card that you left in the room. If your name was on that card and it got turned in at any time by a guest, you got an extra $5 on your pay check for every card. It wasn’t a lot but it was worth it
@yourproxymom

Thanks for this video. I was thinking to try housekeeping for a 4-star hotel in downtown. On paper, the tasks asked seem easy and simple and the high salary was tempting. But someone who been giving me job advices, he told me I would need to manage my stress and time. I am kinda perfectionist but I know I am not the fastest, probably because I like to double check everything to be sure I didn't made a mistake. So I started some research before I make a mistake. I been working as a bakery clerk for 5~6 years, I started to think of trying something new and different. I worked for 3 different supermarket and unfortunately, when it seem to be a quiet and relaxing job, someone in the management decide to ruin it for my team and 1 by 1, everyone quit. But this is also the only work experience I have, so going in a unknown territory is scary.
@yourproxymom
@yourproxymom Год назад
I'm sorry to hear about the poor management situation. Going into the unknown is definitely scary, but that's where we grow! There's no hurt in trying it out :) If it doesn't work out, you can always find something else!

I work Monday to Friday as a school custodian and it pretty much entails light duty cleaning the whole school year and then in the summer we do two months of deep cleaning/furniture moving/etc. I get compensated very well, have benefits/pension, am part of a union and also don't have anyone breathing down my neck checking my work. I was thinking of getting a part time job on the weekend doing hotel housekeeping but watching this video as well as other videos, I honestly think I would go crazy. Thanks for being so honest and upfront about the job. I think I'm going to pass and look for something else. Cheers!

You should do more talks on YT or even consider doing a TED talk. You'd make a great educator, speaker, or content creator. You also know how to encourage and make people feel good, too. So, you would also make a great manager or training coordinator. Wishing you well!

@Shon9tilR 2 года назад
Hi. I’m very introverted-anti social too, but you’re alone 80% of the time so it’s not bad at all. It takes allot of practice learning how to clean and stay organize but you can do it. I’m relaxed all day even if the day is long and I’m exhausted. You pretty much do the same routine for every room. Only thing that’s hard for me is running out of towels and having to go back and get more. Or going to different floors to look for more towels. I love the job. Make sure to apply where you get a raise every so months. And apply at a hotel that get good business.

I am happy i found this channel. Was feeling like i was alone in my feelings. One of the things thats making me want to walk out is when the supervisor adds extra rooms to my board when i have DND's or NS's. When i used ro supervise, i viewed NS rooms as a treat for the housekeepers. So if they wanted extra room I'd give it to them but i let them decide that. We have 16 rooms a day. We have to spend like 30 mins in the morning getting carts and linen, etc. Then the check outs take all morning checking out but its too early to knock on stay overs. So there's time wasted. So if two doors put up DND signs that's actually very helpful since we cannot get into the crap ton of check outs that are still therw but instead of considering how limited the time is, the supervisor decides to give you rooms to replace those rooms even though a whole hour just went by and you weren't able to start yet. Not to mention double bed rooms are kinda like two rooms worth of work but they add rooms anyway. And good luck with help getting rooms stripped. Bottom line, it's either quality or quantity. You can't have both in the small time allowed with all the other things slowing you down. However they demand both and that's why things arw purposely skipped and turnover rates are astronomical. No one ever stays.
@yourproxymom

I've had this exact story play out in four of my cleaning jobs, two werent even housekeeping. The amount of physical labour, attention to detail, and stress required to clean in the extremely dangerous environment of a poultry processing plant is incomprehensible. All these employers want perfect quality in a delusionally unrealistic deadline is just insane, most of these employers are actively killing their own business because of it. We arent robots but we are expected to perform perfectly every single day with little down time and no benefits. I was the 16th night cleaner of 35 that left Tegel foods based in New Zealand, they have just had to hire 180 contract workers because everyone has given up trying to help a business that refuses to listen or care. Let them rot with the rest I say.

Although I have been asking a friend who does housekeeping and she said don’t do it lol. It’s tiring. The job I have now isn’t too bad but it’s kind of draining me talking to people so much.
