This video is great, I love you being the representative of all the young people getting into the hobby! I feel really lucky getting to watch your greatly produced videos and learn from you ❤️🏵️
But she's more environmentally friendly than a cat lady. Lots of cats fill up landfills and kills so many birds. We should all aspire to be more like the plant lady.
Cat poop anywhere. I hate cat lady, because they just hug and adore the cute little kitty. But the cat poop on her neighbor's soil. I have one such neighbor, her cat poop on my shallot pots and garlic pots. I finally tired of cleaning their poo for 2 weeks straight. So i put many small nails under my soil. Yes the cat injured his foot. But dont blame me. I am not the one let loose a pet.
Every new plant owner should watch this. In fact, experienced plant owners would probably learn something here too. Thorough explanations and very informative. Thank you.
This is simply one of the best videos on plants I have ever watched on RU-vid, and it is going to help me with bringing my houseplants into the home over autumn and winter for the first time since I bought them and had them outside over spring and summer. I now understand how to gauge the correct amount of light for my plants, and I hope it'll ensure survival of them. Thank you for putting out this video for plant-parent-hopefuls like me.
You're so informative. Summer would you be able to test the air quality of your apartment & maybe upload it in one of your future videos? I am dying to know if that many plants will make a significant difference in air quality. Much love
Wow. Today, I literally was trying to rearrange my plants according to the natural lighting in my home. I was also looking for a light meter. ..then, you upload this video. Very informative and helpful. Thank you! 😊
first came on to her from seeing her in the news. Didn't realize she's making a career out of this. This video series seems to be exactly what i was looking for. Her delivery is precise and slow enough to where I can process what she's saying and not have to rewind the video (most people I've seen speak a mile a minute). I also love the video quality of this. Looking forward to watching the others.
I've just started buying and taking care of plants and this has to be, hands down, the best video that I have watched so far. A very scientific take, very structured and I am so glad I found this!
i learn how i care when i kill a plant.. now i have 44 perfect and happy plants. :D but i need more and more!! =D (sorry my english, i'm from Portugal)
I'm on the verge of a pannick attack in self isolation, can't sleep for 2 days and your soothing voice and beautiful house just made me feel so fuzzy on the inside. Thank you
Watch comedy and plant videos. 😁🌱Forever! Now you can also watch Flock Finger Lakes to see the rest of the story. 🏞️🚜🌳🌲🌲🌲Travel along with these videos and they and even comments will connect you with others.
Wow that was the most adorable way to tell about skin cancer, I'm on love with that girl.. subscribed and waiting for new episode, that s literally the best channel about house plants :3
When my neighbours leave town, some of them usually ask me if I can water their plants and of course I do. I myself use water reservoir pots (or I create them myself, usually with pots for orchids as they taper at the bottom so my pot will get stuck after 2/3 of the pot, all that is left is a at least 0,5 cm thick string made of cotton) or drip devices or I might think about something new, it works with electricity, little pumps that hang in a jar of water and they pump little amounts into the flower pot over the day. If you use bentonite in your soil, it holds more water, some types of soil hold more water to begin with, you can experiment with this (the fun never stops! :D). If you are from Germany, I use the soil of „Lubera“, beste Erde überhaupt. Hält Wasser ohne Ende.
Summer - you saved my life. I always went out and bought some random plants when I thought they look beautiful. Nearly all plants died on me and I always thought it’s my fault and I only bought some plastic plants cause I didn’t wanna kill them all. Now I can start to grow some plants in the condition they need. Thanks for giving your advice. Now I’m excited to start my home garden.
I only clicked on this video because your home is so beautiful with all the plants.i stayed because of the beauty too and now I know a lot about plants😂😂
Thank you so so much for how much detail you went into and how far down you broke light requirements. I had no idea what low-medium and highlight were supposed to mean for houseplants, but this helps me think like a plant, thank you!!
What a wealth of information, Summer. It is such a pleasure watching you talk about your passion in such detail. Thank you for inspiring me to dig deeper into the world of home gardening. Keep up the good work!
I’ve been binge watching plant videos these days. All plant lovers are nice and kind. But you are the exact plant role model I’ve been looking for 😱😱 Starting the journey with observing and understanding light is so refreshing and inspiring. I wish I knew this from the beginning but as you said, not all hope is lost 🍀🍀
I can't say I'm your first subscriber, but have been on the journey since Plant One On Me episode 001. This one is great, but I'm still waiting on your episode about pots and planters. You have the coolest around.
This is the first video I watched on houseplants, a year ago, in preparation for my first houseplant haul. I had never heard of some of these plants till then! I took notes which I still keep. I come back to this channel constantly for information, as well as for enternainment :)
I honestly can not express how much I appreciated every second of this video, Summer. I needed this info so badly a few years ago when I 1st began growing houseplants and I've since learned much of this by trial and error BUT I still learned so much from this video and information mainly because of the excellent way you were able to actually demonstrate lighting situations!!! I feel so much better equipped to properly figure out and assess my own lighting situations now and that is invaluable. You know how much I LOVE your videos but I'll say it again...love what you're doing and I am always thankful! 😊 ~Len 💚🌿💚🙏🏽
Wow! Thank you for this well thought out and explained video. My plant obsession is fairly new but the more that I learn, the more important I am realizing that the level of light I am able to provide is. All new plant lovers need to see this.
Love these types of videos we are getting recently, lighting is so hard to figure out! I'd love more in depth info on grow lights and how to use them properly. What types, the light they give out, how to set them up and how near your plants they need to be etc.
This is some great advice...just to add a little of my own knowledge...instead of fluorescent bulbs, you can get full spectrum LED lights that include the "warm" tones the fluorescent tubes lack. They also consume a lot less energy. This will also aid plants to flower if they are so inclined (flowering plants need the warm spectrum). Also, I would not advise a humidifier. Instead place a plant on a tray of moistened pebbles (just dont let the water get as high as the drainage holes), and they will get more than enough humidity and you wont be promoting growth of something you dont want...mold. Also, how clean your windows are will also affect your light...clean windows = more light (not an easy task in a bustling city environment). Also...lots of plants can be easily propagated simply by sticking a small cutting in water and left in a sunny window. I have two 8 foot ficus trees that I propagated doing just that that I took from a plant that someone had thrown out in an alley (it had a piece that wasnt dead...that was over 20 years ago) so you dont even always have to spend money on a new plant! One more thing...be aware of the active growing season for your plants...just like the rest of us...they require a rest period. Just like we can't keep going all the time...there are times of the year when a plant needs to slow down and chill out...if you let them rest...they will grow much faster and healthier when the active growth time comes around (this is really important if you use grow lights since they dont mimic the seasons like natural light). When a plant is resting, it doesnt need quite as much water or fertilizer. Hope some of you find this as a useful add on to a great video.
I love gardening and I have quite a few plants inside my home and in the balcony. I find your videos super informative and extremely refreshing ! I can watch them back to back ! Lots of love and power to you ! 💕
THIS WAS THE MOST IN DEPTH INFORMATIVE VIDEO I NEEDED TO WATCH! I have a south facing window that barely receieves light, maybe an hour a day in Winter and a few hours in the summer, but i can tell it's burned some leaves on my Song of India plant, and that my grow lights may have damaged my Skindaptus Pictus! Thank you so much for touching on this, big help!! I know what to do now!
I'm fairly new to houseplants, mine are thriving in my North and west facing windows in the UK, South is full sun as I know my back garden is south facing. I have a pergola covered with a climbing rose which provides shade for my south windows which has been good. I think every window sill in my house is covered in plants, plus hanging from curtain rods. Very useful info.
I just moved to a new place and the first thing I moved were the plants lol. The toughest ones were my 2 foot tall Palm tree and my 2 foot Spider plant with four babies attached but somehow I did it lol!!
Hey Summer &Greetings from middle of nowhere! :) Great video (you are terrific speaker/orator, I like how well organized &thought out your message is &whoever does the filming/editing is doing an awesome job), love your channel. Have a very pleasant day!
I really appreciate the intro. I always just thought I had a black thumb because I even killed a few succulents but the more I tried and kept at it, the more I realized that wasn't true! This year I even forayed into growing food and it worked out pretty well. :) Much better than I expected. Nowadays most of my plants stay alive!
I really am into plants, I am a registered librarian already, and because of this obsession into plants -- I make my library a green house plants, that I really loved about. It even entices my students to go to the library.
This is definitely the video for me. I have started filling my house with plants. Have no idea what I'm doing. I have ferns right now. I have the snake plant. And I have Ivy plants.
thank you! this is very helpful! before i stumbled upon this video, i've tried observing the light coming to my home using a compass app and a lightmeter app. i guess i did the right thing
I just moved to a new place and I only get low-medium light. I SO miss my Southeast-facing window because I used to watch the Sun rise every morning, it was the best lighting for my plants and I could literally see New York from there!! So from now on wherever I move from here will definitely have a Southeast-facing window from now on!!🥰
Simply amazing all the plants you have in your home! I live in a warehouse with no windows. After a couple years I finally got grow lights as I missed having plants! It is a learning curve but despite loosing a couple I have many. Home depot is really good about refunds when you keep the receipt and original pot if you do kill one. Thanks for your information as it probably saved quite a few plant friends!
Ohh Girl I thought I was bananas having all this plants in my department but seen your I still not on that extreme yet😂 Definitely love ❤️ all your videos and your kindness with all that information ❤️🙏
WOW! I have been watching many of your videos for the past three days. Your videos are so well done and offer me all the information I have been looking for over the past 2 years. You explain it in a way that is easy to understand. Now I know I have SW light. I am looking to find out why my spider plant leaves all have cracks, even the new growth gets cracks, and it has not had babies (I had it over 1 1/2 years) I will keep searching through your videos for the answer. Thank you so much. Judy
This video came on while I was eating a pbj sandwich with aloe Vera gell in it. I'm inspired to clean my whole appartment now and start an indoor garden.
Thank you for your amazing and informative videos, as always. With your help I have transformed my previously black thumb into a green one over the last few years and now have a collection of thriving beauties.
Summer, as a cameraperson, a new plantperson and a fan of good, concise science education, i have to say that I'm impressed with you guys. This has such solid cinematography and editing to show clearly what you are saying. Great "script" and hosting btw (i can't tell if you wrote everything down and did 20 takes or if you're just that good now). This vid also made me realize that i may not really need it and am no longer a total beginner... ...and i have you to thank for that. Cheers.
Hi Alex, thanks always for your vote of support and so thrilled you're learning and growing here too! And thrilled you appreciate the quality, time and effort that goes into these videos. Being a cameraperson yourself, I know you know firsthand how much goes into these. Luckily I really have internalized what I know (but I'm always learning), and try to write out a loose storyboard in the beginning, and we try to do everything in as the least amount of takes possible. 1, 2...maybe three times. It's easier then on the editing.
Hello from Romania! I subscribed seeing what I have seen. I struggle for space and light too and my windows are all facing North in a temperate climate. In front of my window are block of flats and 40 years old trees and from East another block is semi-blocking the light. Imagine I grow orchids, all types, anthurium and sanseveria, draecena, lilies, gloxinia, fresies, lavander, oregano, mint and irises. All are growing flower spikes because I supliment with artificial light.
I love this video! 💚🌿 This is incredibly useful information for every user when it comes to plant placement and the details to help it thrive 🌿! Great video💚!
Would you consider making videos on urban vegetable gardening? I love listening to your voice, looking at you in your videos, and believe in what you are saying, so I'm hoping you could make videos on food production.
Totally agree. Light level is crucial for house plants. I use an app on App Store called MQ GreenThumb to measure the light levels around my house. Light can be measured in lux or foot-candle.
