17-year-old Chester was diagnosed with mild autism when he was three years old. He started getting bullied in his mainstream school, then was sent to a Pathlight, an autism-focused school, but faced even more stigma from society. This is the story of a boy, his mother, and the fight to be socially accepted.

Agreed. Growing up I had a buddy with aspergers and he did poorly in school and was often beat up by his folks. He could draw extremely well. During comic con, I took him and his folder and shoved his artwork before many artists to promote him to them. He gradually got to know more like minded artists and grew in confidence. Today he is a successful animator in Japan and has worked on many popular animes. It is possible.

That teacher who did not allow him to go to the toilet should be reprimanded, that teacher must be taught a lesson for her wrongdoings. If you're the teacher and you're reading this, I think your ex-student and his parents deserve a sincere apology from you. And to those students who laughed at him, shame on you guys!

NYI YAN MOE HTET For sure, for sure, without a doubt. Yes, sacked means fired for child neglect or abuse if proven - for not allowing him to go to toilet coupled with not cleaning him when she/he must have known that he has soiled himself. The employer/school will typically inform the press that such a person no longer work in the school. Happens every time with abusive staff.

@Hllee6428
@Hllee6428 Месяц назад
Yes I agree with you. The Singaporean accent is almost nil and he sounds pretty neutral. Ironically this could be due to being isolated from fellow Singaporeans (other than parents) with less likelihood of picking up Singlish...and perhaps drowning himself in RU-vid/CNA instead. .So this could be the silver lining.

He is not sick at all! That's just his character, most people always think you are sick when you do not do what they do and what they like you to do. Some people really like to be alone, do not talk much, and you will be called SICK. How about the reverse, some people like to talk too much and socialize too much . . . . they call that normal???? Why must you act the way that other people like you to act? Why can you not be just yourself???
@honeyhartmr
@honeyhartmr 4 года назад
I agree. I don't think he sick. I think he is a strong will and stubborn person. Usually when kids act up like this its because they feel sad, not enough love, or something isn't right. My son sometimes acts like this and he'll tell me he just wants to try to do it his way or be himself. My son barely talked until he was three as well. Now hes full of huge vocabularies. I would not say he has anything wrong with him. Not everyone should act or have the same personality. Sometimes I wish parents would stop trying to find something wrong with their kids. All children excel at a different rate. Just be blessed.
@joannerodriguez8912
@joannerodriguez8912 4 года назад
He is not a sick. He is a adult that wants to do and express his own way. He wanted to feel life without any control and learn from it. That is the problem of... too much in control. When you see your child ready being independent let him feel life out there and not judge his capabilities or else he will act like a child stuck in a room and doesnt want to get out or afraid to get out. I think he is smart than his parents and he is capable to see and knowing things in life than them. The problem for some parents they want to be a parent that is always right. They want to hold that power of authority while instead be just a best friend and guide not control.

They are just mad people who do not know what they do. Very unkind too. Anyway i like to tell you that i found peace in Buddhism. Found answers.

“That’s the most wrong way to make me happy.” *EXACTLY!!* I have Asperger’s and although I’m not hardcore introverted (I do have some wonderful close and casual friends,) I need to mentally prepare ahead of time before I socialize with more than two people. My mom is hardcore extroverted and doesn’t understand my need for peace and quiet. She three me 4 surprise parties when I was a teenager, 3 for my birthday and 1 for graduation. I didn’t cry cuz I wasn’t a kid but I didn’t appreciate the surprise. I love my friends but having them all shout “SURPRISE!” at me really hurt my brain and I couldn’t fully enjoy their company for the rest of the party. Edit: just want to clarify that every autistic person is different and Chester sounds similar but not identical to me when he was a child. For example, I was always fully verbal from 12 months old. I was also a very social child. An introverted one for sure! But introversion doesn’t mean you don’t enjoy socializing, it just means it *drains* you of energy and you need lots of alone-time to recharge.

These kind of teachers are only there for the money and definitely not displaying proper moral values nor sympathy to struggling students,may it be physically mentally or financially.They are just amplify the problem instead of giving out a helping hand.I'm sure there are a plenty of them out there,they need to be fired if they aren't passionate for what they are doing.Worst still, some even sided with the victim's bully.

He behaves and speaks better than most Singaporean kids his age. He is indeed blessed to have very supportive parents who care so much about his well being and future. It's a fact that autistic kids truly love their parents til death. They are the true definition of Superparents who struggle to take care of their autistic child and it's not easy being in their shoes. Great job what they have done to help him succeed in his life. I wish him all the best and that he'll make his parents very proud of him which he already has.

I get what you are saying, but we cannot ignore disabilities completely either, as we need ramps, elevators, specialized educational services, sign-language interpreters and Braille books. We need to value our diversity because it’s our greatest strength, but we also need to acknowledge that some people aren’t able to do things the standard way. It’s not a crime, just an observation.

Wow by watching this I felt like my life story is somewhat similar like his, in terms of how my classmates treated me bck in pri sch n sec sch Tbh, I have autism too (high functioning autism). My parents always said to me "Youre not autistic, just diff from others" but the fact is I DO recognize the symptoms of HFA, n I silently admitted that I hv. Like this guy, Im also a sporean and Ive been enrolled in mainstream primary sch too. Ive also been ostracized by my classmates and Ive been bullied several times in pri sch. However I had some close friends there so I do not feel completely excluded, so I made all the way to sec sch w/o the need to go to pathlight. However, my sec sch life turns out to be the worst part of my life. I was being enrolled into a mainstream sec sch. Because of me not being able to socialize properly w others, & not knowing the social cues, latest trends that normal teens usually do, Ive been bullied by my classmates and being severely ostracized. My sec 2 life made me become really miserable bcos I hv no friends in sch and I sunk into high functioning depression and OCD (not rly been officially diagnosed but I noticed the symptoms)...luckily during sec 3 I have 3 friends who had helped me to get out of the hole and I'm grateful for that ☺️ Also, my supportive school counselor helped me from sinking any deeper when I was sec 5, as my number of friends decreased from 3 to 1 n I felt lonely again :( it's heartwarming to k that my counselor was willing to help me and prevented me from sinking any deeper. ✊🏻 I'm now a graduated sec student who is waiting to be accepted into NAFA and I rly hope that I can change myself for the better, so that ppl wont ostracize and bully me anymore. I can change myself by reading and watching content about the outside world n increase my emotional intelligence. Hopefully my life wld take a turn for the better 🤞🏻 To Chester, youre not alone ☺️🤍 It's rly saddening to know that others treated u so differently and can't accept that fact that u r different. It's frustrating to see ppl categorizing groups like "normal" grp and "abnormal" grp. I hate the way how so called "normal" ppl look down on ppl w disorders and label them as "not normal". This is just so frustrating. I rly hope that society can be more inclusive tbh. However I hope that ppl, who r labelled as "normal", hv watched this video and hopefully they will treat ppl w disorders equally, like how they treat their peeps n frens. Fight for a more inclusive society!!! ✊🏻 And rmbr, autism doesn't define who we are!

12:04 "Why can't we accept somebody that thinks differently?" That is the question humans need to ask themselves from time to time till the end of time.

Nothings wrong, everybody has their own situation. It's okay. Once, my aunt said to my mom, if i'm stress, bcs i don't want to meet family when they visited me after I discharged from hospital. I didn't want to meet them bcs i didn't want to talk about my illness. But they already judged me. I just want to keep my health problem to main family, i don't want to share with others. That's up to me, this is my problem. Why everybody wants to know
