Have you heard of a cell saver?
It is a really cool machine that we use in the operating room to help prevent the need for a blood transfusion. When there's bleeding during a surgery, we use a suction device to remove the blood from the field.
Instead of discarding this blood, a cell saver filters it and this blood can be given back to the patient at the end of the surgery. We tend to lose a lot of blood during fibroid surgery, and this is a great tool to minimize the risk of needing a blood transfusion.
