How a Disaster becomes and Opportunity for NEW HUBS in Cities Skylines | VB 118c
Hello everyone! In this final episode, we're going to see quite a surprising turn of events in Verde Beach. But a disaster can become an opportunity, and in this episode, we'll see how that happens. We'll implement new hubs from the Hubs and Transport Update that will allow us to mix four modes of transit in a simple, elegant way.. Enjoy!

The reason why there are so many passengers waiting for the monorail is because the new asset has a glitch where the monorails just disappear in the stop before. I couldn't get it fixed so I just added a normal station right next to the hub and it started working again. Great videos by the way! :)
@quuaaarrrk8056
@quuaaarrrk8056 Год назад
Worth to note is that the developers are aware of this issue and hopefully will have a fix soon. As of right now, as Ricky suggested, the harbour part of the hub works fine, just build a normal monorail station next to it until the hub is fixed.
@joe_f

With a fix incoming I’d probably just move the lines back to the monorail station in front of the underground metro station temporarily, no need to use eminent domain for a short term solution! It’s only about a 4 block walk so not unreasonable for now

You should keep the disaster response unit with the vehicles and just add the airbase as an extension of the city’s disaster response capabilities. The city has grown a lot, more help for the citizens might not be a bad thing. Edit: In addition, a floodwall for Oceanside might not be terrible. Worse views, but you could make it up to them by adding something to the area maybe.

It adds so much story to a city. In mine I had a meteor hit a large part of my downtown. I used the area to create a memorial park for it. It really adds to the landscape
@seraphina985
@seraphina985 Год назад
I did the same thing in one of my cities, meteor hit an office district downtown so I decided the city would build a memorial park with the impact crater as the centrepiece. There was a path that led down into it to a custom monument thing I built. Also used it as a trigger to have the city revitalise a former industrial district near the waterfront with a brand new business park. In the story of the city I'd already planned out for that area to be long past it's prime as it was too far up river and the quays and docks too small for ships by that point in time thus many of the former warehouses and factories having been abandoned too. Part of it nearer the centre I'd already redeveloped into a waterfront leisure area with cafes, restaurants, and such, had been thinking about what to do with the rest when the meteor happened and gave me a good answer as by building the park the city would need to allocate land for the uses that were lost.

Many people would love to live this close to so much transit. If you extended the peninsula by around 50% and added some high density residential and some high density commercial, it could add to the usefulness of the hub even more.
@GalaxyFalcon1
@GalaxyFalcon1 Год назад
Love the new build! Looks great! I have a few ideas for future builds that I think you add to the city: 1) A liberal arts collage, the last type of university from the campus DLC 2) A small prison complex (your city has no jail right now) 3) You have the airport from the airport dlc as the main big airport for the city, but maybe using the 3 single asset airports from the base game to make a second, smaller airport on the other side of the city would be cool. Many large cities have more than one airport to both increase air transport capacity and to have a diversionary airport among other reasons. 4) Now that we have a bunch of new sports stadiums, a large sports complex would be cool. 5) I know that from a gameplay perspective, all of the city's power is generated by the fusion reactor, but I think a few smaller power stations around the city would be cool for redundancy. Maybe drake oil has their own personal oil plant so they can generate their own electricity, or maybe there is a solar plant by the garden city. Something like that. 6) Make sure you have a pumping service station to clear the roads after a tsunami even faster. Its a big city, make adding a few around the map could be smart. 7) I know its just a worse tram, but trolleybuses are still cool. If you have a low-density mixed use suburb, might be a nice spot. 8) IT cluster offices (and offices in general) are something you have not added in a while. Also, giving the industry dlc industries extra areas of zones industrial growable that are specialized to their industry seems like a realistic thing to do. 9) Along the coast, there are a few attractions, but maybe adding a few more (jet ski, fishing pier, fishing tour, marina, restaurant pier would make it more lively. 10) Now that the vanilla game has its own parking lots, are you considering replacing the custom ones with these new ones? 11) You have a bunch of city parks, and a couple nature reserves, but as far as I can remember, only one amusement park (hamilton experience). Thinking of adding a second one? 12) Always remember that if you don't want to place an asset because it needs a road, pedestrian roads are your friend!

I found you looking for a way to make an artificial lake and then ended up watching your entire Verde Beach series. I struggled a lot to enjoy making realistic cities until I learned a bunch of your tricks over time. Made an entire geological feature that includes a "spring" on a mountain top that trickles down and creates some vanilla "waterfalls" and then eroded an entire canyon with a flowing river and turned it into a city park with nature trails. The water outlet is used as a manmade reenforced cave that protects the spring source inside the cave. The water pump is hidden at the end of the ravine behind rocks and trees. Afterwards you play with the elevation and rocks to adjust the water height to your liking and you've made a working artificial river. I've also added a lot of tree and vegetation props that I probably would have never gotten if I didn't watch your videos and how to landscape on the game which can be very tricky as I've learned watching you so I don't feel as bad that I'm also equally struggling.

Considering adding bus lanes to the new hub area? A taxi stand might be cool too. Also, bike lanes and a small train station would really make this a mega transit hub. ( I know the metro is close, but the normal train station is at the central station. A short line from the harbor to central station could be cool.)
@seraphina985
@seraphina985 Год назад
True although a shuttle would not really be much more convenient than just taking the other transit options over to the station. Could be worth it if one or more lines to the central station actually through ran but as this is a terminal station they cant. There are a few places in real life near the coast where some trains run through the central station of a coastal town and terminate on the waterfront at a station often [Townname] Harbour/Pier.

Hi Phil, I know you like stories in your cities so I thougt I'd share something from my own story universe that might spur some ideas for expansion. Gerald Gronoset - great grandson of the business magnate J.G Gronoset who established the renown Gronoset Locomotive Works in the town of Bellaville, Mass in 1886 - is the current owner of Gronoset Heavy Industries with its seat of operation on the shores of Lake Superior. Togeather with his brothers Bjorn and Nils, Gerald manages the Gronoset concern which employs over 14,000 people between its Superior plant and the locomotive works. GHI is known for building large specialised industrial equipment such as power plant, mining and refinery components, as well as crane barges and dredgers. Gerald is looking to expand beond Lake Superior though and considers founding an additional site in another location (such as in Verde Beach or Clearwater County). The company would offer jobs and an economic boost to the area. Gerald and the Gronoset concern also funds local park and beautification projects as he loves to walk his beloved collie dogs Cypress and Beau.

Ever considered expanding the coverage for the helicopter emergency services? There are both standard and high capacity helicopter depots for fire, EMS, and police (high capacity great for downtown, low capacity great for the suburbs), and I think it could really help the city. Also, with the 2 ferry hubs that this new build has, might be worth it to take a look at some of the canals that cities skylines has to offer, would make the city cool for tourists and the canals can be used to move water around for artificial lakes as well.

I just find it so hard to not play Cities Skylines with a gamer efficient mentality (which isn't always easy when you're not 100% sure how the AI works, like trying to figure out how you can have the same item as both your biggest import and export. Building a system of cargo rail stations throughout my city seemed to help). Maybe an attempt at a light district green city will get me there. Wanna see if I can hit Megalopolis using only light residential/commercial (all self sufficient and (mostly) organic/local produce) sustained by a massive farm and fishing. Still need to determine if the Crops you produce in a farm industry district count as "zoned agricultural product".
