Kayoko Nakata discovered flamenco dancing when she was a teenager in Japan. It became her passion, and she wanted to make a career out of it. But there were naysayers who didn’t think a Japanese dancer would be accepted in a dance world traditionally populated by Spanish performers. So what did Nataka do? She trained and trained and trained and fought for her place. And, today, she is a professional flamenco dancer living and working in Barcelona.

As a Spaniard I can say that you are a true flamenco dancer! Flamenco is not limited to any race or nationality. In fact it is really nice to see foreigners falling in love with it. Ole! ❤️

That's how life should be. If a human is interested in a certain aspect of a culture of any kind, they should be able to represent that culture by using their own personality to distinguish it. But you know, it's still somewhat "taboo" if you're not that ethnicity/race to practice those traditions, or you'll get discriminated. As long as you respect it and don't treat the custom as a "parody", then you shouldn't get harassed by society.

@@jqa16 it depends. People in Spain are mean with each other as the political situation here is not good at all, but we are kind of nice with foreighners as long as they are not annoying tourists like the americans. In her case, I think she was welcomed in the dance world as we don't tend to discriminate in that aspect, but culture in Spain is not regarded as important or relevant, it is seen as a job for lazy people, that is why getting a job in it is hard. Also, recently a new political party has appeared that is pretty xenophobic and related to extreme-right wing so it doesn't help at all
