This is the story of the Venom GT, a Texan Built, British Design, American V8 powered rocketship that put the world on notice. Music: By White Bat Audio For business 337speed@gmail.com Follow the build here: / 337speed / 337speed
Hennessey is a legendary builder, but he's also legendary for being a horrible businessman and just a bad all around person. A lot of people lost a bunch of parts on their Vipers because of the terrible way in which he ran his business, and some people didn't get their cars back for years, often after court battles, and in pieces. Then you'd have John on car forums getting in flame wars with people, it was completely insane. Any story about Hennessey needs to have that included. There's no doubt that the Venom GT was an amazing car, but it was built by a very flawed individual.
People would send their cars to be modded by Hennessy and would just never get them back because Hennessy would use them for testing and would utterly destroy most of them. That’s probably how they afforded to pay for venom gt, pay from clients, free testing cars, sell destroyed car remains
@@scott8934 No I never had much interrest in Vipers. But like.... When the Viper came out, it had only 400-something HP out of an 8 and a half liter engine. The laziest engine ever put into a car. And as years progressed, it didnt get much better.
Hennessey pretty much had to design the best engine they could. Lotus already gave them the chassis. And what a gorgeous and efficient chassis it is. Small. Aerodynamic, light, simple. Yet extremely good and efficient and underrated in my honest opinion.
@@EmperorXaozx it had to be modified yes. But not that much. Most changes where increasing the width and length, to help with tranction and stability. As far as I know, no significant changes were made in relation to the aerodynamics of the chassis
@tiagopereira8340 none at all, Americans like claiming other people creations. They put an engine in a lotus am act like they created the car, it the same for the shelby cobra it a fully British carvthat the yanks put a bigger engine in.
These videos and their quality just keep getting better and better. At this rate I wouldn't be surprised if you get tapped for a documentary of some kind or to be a presenter/producer on Hagerty. Absolutely brilliant man, keep up the good work!
Agreed, I watch way too much of this type of content on YT. A good portion of it is absolute trash, poorly produced and edited. 337 Speed produces quality content and should receive recognition for that achievement.
An imported American V8 in the 60s also birthed TVR, who were just about the most insane car company Britain has ever produced. It was the same recipe, massive power plants, British style sports chassis and a minimal in comforts for weight relief. Ironically, they were too insane for the American market. The only legal way to get them over there is buying up old ones which qualify as vintage. Even so they will still outperform many of their modern peers in the hands of a skilled driver. I will emphasise "skilled" because TVRs are notoriously a handful with next to nothing in terms of driver aids.
@@LCDqBqA Was going to say the same thing, the British didn't have a plane that could push their own engine to the limit (mostly altitude) and America didn't have an engine that could handle the altitude (plus the firepower on the P51 was absurd for the time), hence American plane with British engine = one the most iconic planes in history. Both sides could've developed something but they were in a bit of a hurry.
@@jeroenverzijl8596 My point was the refinement. You could hold a conversation in the bugatti and sip coffee. In the Venom you'd be wearing it and screaming at the top of your lungs.
Just started watching, and you have been upping your game every video. Great information, excellent editing and high production values. Thanks, all of your effort shows!
@@khaosking2937 oh yea, only game where u could truly feel that car. game was 10 years ahead of its time and the venom was also years ahead of its time! real sht!!
@@khaosking2937 dawg if they kept the game alive, it would have had every car anyone wanted. remember how killer the dlc was? the ferrari packs, the lambo packs, all the cars that nobody else had in their game? ssc tuatara and venom f5, both versions of the jesko, etc etc etc. it all would have been in this game. it would have been a haven for high end cars.
I like how Hennessy takes someone else's car modifies it then slaps his name on it. I modified my Toyota Supra by putting a pod filter on it. It's now a Snake Bite V 7000 GT. Yes, that'll do.
Comparing John Hennessey to Carol Shelby is an insult to the Shelby name. While Henessey over-promises and rarely delivers, Carol Shelby promised less but delivered so much more. Completely opposite philosophies.
Good video man. Your research skills are superb! I think you would really be interested in the noble m600. Take a look at them, you wont be disappointed.
Oh, my goodness, your channel is fantastic. The presentation, with the attention to detail, the perfect choice of voice actor/LLM (it really is getting more difficult to tell the difference), not dumbing anything down, yet making it accessible to anyone...and that's worthy of note. Your channel, itself, is worthy of note. Subscribed and shared. Looking forward to checking out your other content. I'm happy I found your channel. Excellent work.
I never knew the gearbox in the ford GT was British built or that they had a hand in building the Hennessy Venom as well. It's a shame though as whenever you talk about Hennessy his name is tainted by rumours of stealing customer property early on
I’m pretty sure the entire GT was built by a Ford British team. At least that was the case for the old Le Mans GT40s, none of it was made in America. I’ll need to research on the Ford GT production car as I do not know.
Nicely done. Aside from record breaking numbers which are transitory, they managed to make a light sporty tennis player's car look like an absolute death machine.
This channel is top quality 90's vibes car channel. Glad I stumbled upon it. The background music, the graphics, and story line, details... kudos. Great over all coherent quality of work.
Lotus is amazing brand by itself their determination in one world is giving so much that even with 300 hp u can destroy ALOT due to weight... and it lets maniacs to create car like this one.... cuz if u take already amazing car and look at it from different perspective u can get pretty solid outcome... Glad for another video keep up the work fam!
Absolutely love these videos. Great level of detail without going OTT and blathering on endlessly, great pacing, superb graphics and editing. Top draw RU-vid content as it was meant to be.
I love this channel!!! I watch a lot of youtube car channels, but when I see a new 337Speed video, I am on it! The videos are excellent, the commentary is top notch and everything is so well researched. I just want more! Thank you!!!
He was also known during his Tuned Viper days to be a massive Con Man. He took parts off other cars to be then placed on newer cars that either needed to be sold or needed maintenance, this is according to supposed customers of his on the Viper Forums. Supposedly, he couldn't meet his obligations and resorted to these drastic measures to save his business from going under due to supposed fraud. I choose my words very carefully here, because he is very happy to sue people over these supposed claims. He has since redeemed himself but not before he started a Tuning school that also landed him in more lawsuits over supposed fraud.
I posted about this also. I believe every video, article, show, etc, that involves Hennessey needs to include just how much of a flawed individual John was. Brilliant auto builder as far as innovation, horrible businessman and just a bad all around character with respect to how he treats others. He can go ahead and try to sue me, we saved the pages on our forum where he got in flame wars with people. That will look REALLY bad in court.
I remember when I saw a Venom GT while driving last year in Tennessee. It was light blue and I only got to see it for a few seconds. I just remember yelling "Holy SH*T that's a Venom! Like, not the new one!" when I realized what I saw.
Back in the mid 80's someone in the UK built a street legal Morris Minor with a Rover V8 (Buick). The top speed was only a few miles faster than any contemporary super car. The difference was 0 to 200 mph was several seconds faster. As for handling, it beat the famous Audi super rally car that got banned from many rallies for being too powerful up a famous hill climb course by several seconds.
You are obviously of a younger generation who does not understand engineering and what clever people can do if they try. I am pretty sure there will be something on You Tube about the car if you search. The old "Motor" magazine did a big article on it and put it up against a top end Lambo & a similar Ferrari hence I know how it performed.
@@craigconey9971 I guess you didn't follow the link I gave you that shows what I believe to be the very car I was on about. Jag rear end and custom front suspension. Ironically, the torsion bar front suspension of the Morris is far more sophisticated than you might imagine and the system is used on quite a few performance cars.
The lotus Elise is a remarkable platform. Not only was it used to build this monstrosity, it was used to build the first electric sports car, the tesla roadster.
I still remember seeing a yellow Venom GT arriving to the local GTR Bros hosted car show in Katy, Texas, back in 2015. Not surprising was that's its driver was Hennessy's own daughter. It literally upstaged a LaFerrari. Magnificent to see in person.
@@chrismusiclover9893 one way you gotta go both ways and average for it to be official . Cause back wind exists you know and Hennessy will never tell you the windspeed and direction that day 😹 there's a reason they only went one way buddy lol
Love content...maybe about ALPINA would be also interesting...also RUF did the new CTR from scratch...carbon chasis and special suspension...the only common thing with original is only the shape...everything else is bespoke...the same at Guntherwerks
