Seems to me there's a lot more that goes into Canadian Coast Guard shipbuilding than this video lets on. For example, there are several years of government indecision, countless revisions to specifications, more years of design modifications, excessive time for tenders to be received and processed, many meetings from special interests, delays due to court cases, and cost overruns several times the magnitude of the original cost estimates, and then, finally, a delivery that is many many years later than the safe-before-date of the ship being replaced. What, oh what, would we do if there was actually an emergency, and we needed to build up our fleet in months, not years?

The Ottawa Citizen noted "the price tag for the project had been steadily climbing from $108 million in 2008 to $144 million in 2011 and then to $331 million, according to federal government figures. On Feb 18 2021 the cost to taxpayers for the offshore oceanographic science vessel took its steepest jump yet with new figures showing it had climbed to $966.5 million." South Africa is constructing a similar oceanographic vessel with an ice-strengthened hull in a project with a budget of around $170 million. We sure know how to spend lots of money on ships in this country that cost a fraction elsewhere.

@@martyrmedia I'm 100% sure those S African ships do not have the quality and specs of our ships. And I'm 200% sure their $170 mi budget will climb. You are comparing apples and pears.
