I consider Ian Wright an honorary national treasure of the Netherlands just for his off-field chemistry with Bergkamp. He's also an international treasure of football. Love the man.
He is so calm, friendly, neutral but also very funny and well informed. Something you rarely see all together from content creators especially in football. We can really say this man put a lot of love and passion into the videos he gives us😊
I was a teacher for a decade. The first time I watched that Wrighty/pidgin clip years ago brought tears to my eyes and still does. Teaching is one of the most difficult jobs in the world. Take a moment out of your life today and thank someone who taught you an important lesson and saw something in you when you didn’t. Who knows where Ian would be without Mr Pigden.
I'm also an ex teacher and I recognise Mr Pigden's game. Discipline isn't telling people off - it's giving them responsibility and making them accountable. He allowed Ian Wright to feel like a man. He gave Wright his first taste of success.
Ian Wright is easily one of the best all round forwards to have graced the game of football. One of the coolest finishers to ever live along with players like Inzaghi, van Nistelrooy & Klose. He was never ever given the credit he deserved. It is a crime that this man was rarely allowed to start for England.
A crime isn't fair as the other names around the time are also insane, even Wrighty admits he wouldn't have started. But in the same interview he also said that he should have been there for the 1996 euros as that game Vs Germany he said was a game he was perfect for and he hates the England manager at the time for not taking him. I can't remember who they took instead but a Wrighty extra time winner at Wembley would have been a crowning achievement on your favourite uncle of English football. Plus I don't doubt he would have found a way to grab a goal in such a cagey game.
We all know during the 90s...and even now, England weren't the best at making personnel decisions. There is a reason they consistently have stacked rosters but zero Euro trophies and 1 World Cup from the 60s. You can't be a nation with so much talent but so much failure without having bad decision making.
Wright wasn't even better than Andy Cole or Sheringham let alone on the level of Shearer or Owen. Also was a much worse version of Gary Lineker earlier on
His career coming to an end coincided with the Premier League boom going into the 2000s that's why he feels underrated because a lot of fans especially outside of England never got to properly watch him.
Ian wright wright wright. Still remember singing that on the school play ground when I was 9. The 1998 double is why I am an Arsenal supporter and Ian wright is a massive part of that. So sad he didn’t get much time with the england squad. A true legend of the game and a remarkable human being and role model for youngsters. Ian wright wright wright
Man that reuniting clip 5:48 is a movie in itself I'd watch this movie. If you've never had an older mentor die, you'll never understand what Ian was feeling at that time.
Loved Ian Wright as a player. Love Ian Wright as an ex-player and everyone's favourite uncle. So glad he's helping younger players like Saka to grow as players and people.
Ian Wright is my favorite pundit. Unfortunately I was way too young to watch him play. I always thought he was an academy player at Crystal Palace but man!!! What a story. truly inspiring 🥲🥲
When he lay eyes on Mr Pigden and the camera zoomed out Ian looked like that little kid in the photos. He looked so innocent and vulnerable. As a united fan you can't help but love this man for all he's achieved in is hard life. Wish nothing but happiness for him and his loved ones. GGMU🇾🇪
Growing up watching the Premier League in the 90’s and early 00’s, there were certain strikers who I always felt were going to score when they played - Ian Wright, Thierry Henry, Alan Shearer, Robbie Fowler, Michael Owen, Andrew Cole, Ruud Van Nistelrooy, Dwight Yorke, Les Ferdinand, Teddy Sheringham, Eric Cantona … I honestly feel like there was something special with strikers back then because they weren’t as protected as they are now, and defenders could make tackles in the 90’s that the UN would classify as a hate crime and are banned by the Geneva Convention in 2024! 😂
Should be an Arsenal fan given my love for him and the greatest, in my opinion, Thierry Henry. Ian Wright and his Joy of scoring goals brought me to even know what this game is.
Ngl, I had seen the reel of Mr pigden meeting Wright later on in life and i respected Mr pigden, but now when I heard he was a raf pilot in wwll,i stood up and gave that man a solid one minute salute. Not many are like him, to care for one not of their own.
Here's a fact about Mr Pigden. On VE Day, they had the RAF fly over Buckingham Palace in celebration. He was one of the pilots. However, he told Ian that he felt more proud getting to see him playing for England than he felt flying over Buckingham Palace.
You should look up the interview he did he won a bunch of medals during the war but he was most proud when he saw Ian playing professional for the first time.
I used to live near Wrighty when I was growing up. He was a regular in one of the local pubs, and he would sometimes invite Gazza up to come drinking with him. What a guy. Pretty much everyone loved him.
I had the pleasure of meeting Ian Wright at one of the NBC Premier League Fan Fests in the US. It was quick but he was extremely kind and engaged not just with me but with everybody. He's a legend.
Even as someone that's been a lifelong Liverpool fan. I quite enjoyed seeing clips/highlights of Ian Wright in my youth. He really seemed to enjoy life as a footballer, and was pretty entertaining. Great video as always! RU-vid needs to relax it's censorship policies. It's stupid that you can't even say that word "abuse" without being demonitized.
This is why teachers are so important in our lives. They become the support for many of us who didn't get the support we needed at home. some of us are still not that lucky
Thanks for a very lovely and touching video. Wrightey is a legend because he is so humble and generous despite all that happened to him. And remains so to this day as a key patron of the England women’s team.
Don't worry Ian, your mum may have not hugged you but we as a nation have always hugged you, since the day you stepped on the pitch, Rivalries never mattered, we always knew you were a legend of a man, a true gentleman. One of the best strikers the English top division saw,
I never knew i could be watching a video before i got the post notification until today. That's how much I love your videos. Been here since the beginning, I will still be here when you reach 1m subscribers. Keep it up bruv 💪🏿💪🏿
Wrighty's charisma, not charm (look up the difference), came from the fact he was an everyman who people could relate to. He was living the dream we all dreamt of as a kid and made a good career out of something he made sure you knew he was enjoying and appreciated it. He really did play like a fan given the chance to be on the pitch. Great guy. Wrighty was the kind of guy who could start a conga line with 5,000 Arsenal fans at White Hart Lane and get away with it.
I have to say that even though I have no connection to Arsenal I absolutely love Ian, he has such a pure heart and an amazing personality and I could listen to him talk for hours, special person ❤
I remember him from the 90s. Honestly, I always thought about him as the best striker in the Premier League in the 90s. Maybe at level with Shearer, but better than the rest. I'm glad that you've made this video for people to remember him.
I'm so glad you made a video on Wrighty. One of my favourite players, and men, on this planet. Have nothing but love for the guy. I know TrueGeordie's channel is controversial, but his podcast with Ian Wright where he shares his story is emotional and inspirational. On my bucket list to shake the guy's hand one day. Great video Tinashe :)
When you listen to wrighty on stick to football you can tell what a truly kind soul and honest friend he is. His connection with Keane actually warms my heart.
Wow what a great video, I did not know that Shaun and Bradley are his sons. Interesting to hear his story and how he didn’t let his negative upbringing hinder him on his journey to success.
He is MY HERO!!!!! A legend 👏 From Bringing up Shawn to playing for Arsenal this guy is ALL CLASS MAN!!! WORDS CANT EXPRESS HOW MUCH I LOVE ❤ THIS GUY LONG LIVE KING WRIGHTY 🤴
We thank u Ian for ur service n determination of being a good man in society n a very good example to us young black men showing we can all make it out of our circumstances
Ian wright was a legend for sure, that Goal he scored for crystal palace against Man u in the F A cup final got me a weeks extra leave at home from the Army (long story) . Then he moved to my team Arsenal and a Legend was born Ian Wright Wright Wright.
What an amazing story his life is. Many people let their issues define who they are. I watch him as a pundit and have a laugh. I did not know how he came up. Grace with a smile to match.
The whole of the world owe's something to Mr. Pigden. An absolute legend who, without him, the world would have missed out on an absolute gift of a human. Awful to think about what might have been without his intervention during Sir Ian's youth
