Indeed. Quoting him was also a dumb point as the U.S. not joining CENTO didn’t cause it to fall apart. It continued for 20 years after the U.S. declined the invitation. CENTO fell apart because the countries kept going to war and the other members never wanted to actually support each other (Turkey in Cyprus, Pakistan in India). The nail in the coffin was the Iran revolution. Its demise had nothing to do with the U.S. or Israel. But you got to sprinkle in some Israel conspiracy theories to get dem clicks.

It's really emblematic of US foreign policy since the pacific pivot under Obama. The abraham accords are an initiative from Jared Kushner under Trump, who basically went in with the mentality, "the experts have been failing for so long, I can do it myself". Biden has basically been blindly continuing Trump's policy uncritically and has made it worse on certain fronts. Something offtion missed in this thou Is that, MBS always has thrown directly to the US, (see the movie Syriana? The younger prince is based on MBS). The CIA killed his half-brother, who said, "he's not fit to run a brothel much less a kingdom" they thought the brother was getting too cozy with China, (although also, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan Brazil and Argentina). being too independent, even though he was also a former but also wanted to create a parliament and give women the right to vote. This would probably go the way of the Baghdad Pact, even if it did move further ahead, Pakistan is also considered a "major non NATO Ally" it doesn't mean all that much.

@@CaptRR Precisely, which is why this won't work. Saudi Arabia is militarily incompetent and is embarking on a variety of insane economical projects in the hopes it will prevent their economy from collapsing once the oil demand drops considerably in the 2030's. These bright projects include Neom (the line city). Furthermore the only reason the Saudi's aren't facing a popular revolt is because their citizens don't have to do anything but obey. Saudi Arabians are an atrocious workforce because the government gives them everything in return for keeping them silent. Israel would be forced to help these guys militarily which is a tall task for the IDF. So tall in fact it would be impossile without the US also intervening militarily. Israel is an Apartheid state that is comiting atrocities that I don't think nations like Rhodesia or South Africa ever commited. However those two got sanctioned. The existence of Israel literally depends on US money both in the form of economic and military support to Israel as on economic support to certain neighbours like Egypt and Jordan to 'bribe' them into being friendly. I don't mean that Israel can't take on Jordan or Egypt militarily, but without that money from the US it would be far easier for others to sway Egypt and Jordan into the anti-Israel camp again. By the way the US is going to need to up their money supply to Egypt pretty soon because Egyptian finances ain't looking good. Not to mention the nation's future is not looking good. More ultra-orthodox Jews that don't do military service and create a lot of offspring whilst usually surviving on social wellfare and we might have all forgotten this, but Netanyahu is not well-liked in Israel. Remember those corruption charges he only escaped from by becoming PM again in the nick of time and the unpopular judical reforms he pushed through with the help ofthe ultra-orthodox Jews? After this war there's going to be a lot of politcial upheaval in Israel as I don't think Netanyahu is going to want to step down voluntarily anymore. The US meanwhile is going to have to explain to their citizens why they're investing so many resources in defending an apartheid state like Israel and an absolute Islamist monarchy like Saudi Arabia in an era where their stake in the Middle East has been greatly decreased. The US ain't no longer dependent on Saudi oil like it was in the early 2000's. I cannot see how either presidential candidate would win by doing this. Trump is all for making America great again, so I don't see how involving himself with Israel and Saudi Arabia is going to help that. Meanwhile Biden is already facing significant headwinds for his current policies. Neither nation has values that compare with the US values. Not to mention it is going quite contrary to where US military policy seems to be heading towards as the US is decreasing their capabilities to support overseas operation. One of the reasons why the pier in Gaza is taking so long to build is because that specific capability had to be brought online again. Also Iran might be stirring up trouble, but it's quite clear that they're not planning on doing it directly anytime soon. They made it quite clear they're not willing to enter a hot war yet.

There's approx 0 chance Americans who aren't terminally present in DC would ever sign on to anything like Mideast NATO - especially when most of us associate the Saudis with 9/11, lots of younger Americans already lost friends and classmates in Mideast wars, and support for Israel is plummeting especially among the demographic that could be asked to risk their lives for it.

The Saudi defense deal is not about appeasing Israel. The US is trying to leave the Middle East, but they don't want to leave in a way that leaves Iran strong enough to dominate the region and they want the region to stay somewhat stable. Getting Israel and the other Gulf countries to cooperate means there's a strong enough bloc to curb Iranian influence (Israel has the tech and intelligence, the Arabs have the geography and money), meaning the US doesn't have to do it anymore. Lets imagine that normalization did not happen and Saudi Arabia did not sign with America and Israel: 1- Saudi Arabia can still obtain nuke from China and Russia, and America will not dare to impose a single sanction so that the sanctions will not also affect themselves through the dollar currency. 2- I do not think that Saudi Arabia prefers the Russian nuclear, but rather they will prefer the Chinese one so as not to give the Russians an opportunity to put pressure on Saudi Arabia regarding oil, since Russia is the real oil competitor, not America. But this means the necessity of the presence of Chinese experts in Saudi Arabia for the nuclear program, which will endanger the secrecy of American weapons. 3- Strengthening Saudi-Iranian relations more than before, with Chinese guarantee, which will pose a greater danger to Israel, since Israel previously faced Iran alone, while the Arabs have remained neutral since Camp David agreement. 4- America will be busy with the conflicts of Israel in the Middle East and will not be able to devote their 100% power to China and Russia, not to mention that the US may suffer more disasters similar to 9/11, since even Muslims in America and around the world, not only Arabs, owe their loyalty to Saudi Arabia due to the existence of Mecca. 5- The financial weight of Saudi Arabia, and the rich Gulf states, will shift from America to Russia or China, which will strengthen the quality of Eastern weapons even more, and there will not be a large gap between Western and Eastern weapons. That is why America is the one who most wants this normalization and does not mind not let Saudi-Israel get public gains, because the strategic gains will be to the US, and even the entire region. I also believe that Saudi Arabia does not want to make this deal with Biden so that he does not gain extra points, and prefers Trump because of the strong relations.

The only reason their is no Palestinian state is that Palestinians keep attacking Israel. How many times has Israel given up land, yet the attacks keep coming? Hell Israel left Gaza 20 years ago and the Palestinians quickly turned it into a terror city, used aid money to build caves, and started launching rockets at Israel. Until the Palestinians realize Israel is not going anywhere, and that they need to come to an accommodation with them, then their cannot be a two state solution. Let me ask you this? Who would run this second state? The PLA? They haven't' called elections in 14 years since they know their radicals would take over and do to the west bank what HAMAS has done to Gaza, and Hezbollah has done to southern Lebanon. At some point that damn will burst and the radicals will either take over via the voting booth, or via the gun. The population is just too radicalized for their to be any other outcome. Why should Israel accept a state on their border that will be used to attack them and that according to the rest of the world they aren't allowed to fight back against, and just have to take rockets falling on their population and killing their people? Who when that state sends people over the border to rape, kill, and kidnap their citizens, they have to sit back and accept it. Whenever you think the Palestinian population is innocent in all this, and that they are just being held hostage by HAMAS, just remember they were cheering as the bodies of Israeli civilians were paraded in the streets of Gaza, and by every poll available would support another Oct 7, despite what it has done to their country. Hamas' pockets won't be a stop anymore on the international aid gravy train. Plus it would force them to abandon their rebranding and come clean about their eliminationist plans for Israel.
