The Welrod is a British bolt action, magazine fed, suppressed pistol devised during World War II at the Inter-Services Research Bureau (later Station IX), based near Welwyn Garden City, UK, for use by irregular forces and resistance groups. Approximately 2,800 were made. The Welrod is an extremely quiet gun, being only 73db when fired.

Excellent - and accurate posting. When fully serviced, a very quiet gun. Five shots in it was louder, but the design was basically a one shot killer from close range.

It was sometimes known as the Spit Gun, as it sounded like someone spitting. Yes, it Was that quiet, just watched another video of demonstration fire, & toward the end the guy walks past his target & does a quick up & shoot, drop the gun to the side; his footsteps on the gravel almost drown out the gunfire.

Purpose-made during WW2. Fun thing is, they made a Sten that was also suppressed, the S series. Skorzeny claimed to have got hold of one.

I love the SOE when it came to solving problems. Need a rifle that's ugly as fuck but super quiet? Introducing the DeLisle Carbine! Yes, it's just a Lee Enfield repurposed to fire pistol rounds. Oh, and the barrel is now just a huge silencer! Need a pistol that allows you to shoot a guy on his lunch break without the guy reading a book next to him noticing? Well, you'll love the Welrod mkIIA! Who needs a gun when you can just have a silencer with a grip? Doubles as a bike pump, handy for keeping your getaway vehicle ready for speedy escapes!

I was more curious to know how the gas disperses throughout the barrel, and where it escapes from the gun.

See the big void around the barrel before the baffles start? That's where all the gases well, most of them escape to...and the baffles also help immensely. The wipers suppress the noise and the baffles do the same but the baffles serve the same purpose as dispersing gas and disrupting the flow of it.

When you pull the trigger, what makes the trigger catch at the back go down, the one with the sear locking the firing pin + spring back?

Wait nvm, the trigger is connected to this block that's around the magazine, and it has grooves, so as you pull, the catch moves down the grooves unlocking the sear, and moving the firing pin forward. It's just really hard to see here.

When the gun goes off the gas blows the bolt back but what makes the bolt move forward to compress the firing pin spring . there is something missing

The gas doesn't blow it back, there are blocks of metal stopping it from moving. You had to manually twist the end, pull it out, then push it back in, it's a bolt action not a semi automatic.

the welrod specifically exists only in museums and private collections now and you arent likely to ever have the option of buying one. however, there is the B&T VP-9 veterinary pistol, which is almost identical. It is chambered in 9mm, however, so its not nearly as quiet (about 130 dB as opposed to the welrod's 73dB). If youre a US resident, it would be difficult to import one for a variety of reasons.

You could pay $200 to get a class 2 license, pay $200 and write a request to the BATFE, wait months to years, hope they approve you, and then build one from scratch at your own expense.

@@Tyr1001 There's strong evidence to suggest the secret service still uses them. They were definitely still in service in 1991, and they're probably still in use to this day. That being said, I don't think you can get one for yourself, primarily cause we have heavy gun restrictions in the UK.

dude.. throw out your idea of a suppressor being an attachable object. just image taking a old brick cellphone from the 80s and cramming a ipod nano in it in a way so its one circuit board. its now an built in feature. it does both things while being one. ... its like explaining modern technology to a cave man... fkn crust on a pizza.
