One aspect of their characterization Fate that makes sense is that Mary is the more reserved among the two, but also the one who deep inside is a little more traditionally girly. Anne was married to a James Bonny whose work for governor Woodes Rogers as an informant about pirates in Nassau she dislike and she actively ran away with Calico Jack, who became her second husband and father of her children. Mary meanwhile did quit being soldier to happily marry a Flemish soldier with who she opened an inn named "De drie hoefijzers" ("The Three Horseshoes") in Breda, the Netherlands. She only started to disguise as male again and joined the military once more when her husband had died and she could no longer run the inn.
I think a lot of the lack of use of these two mostly comes down to the devs putting them in every summer event as their Summer Selves, so it's less they're never used so much as they're always used when the summer crazy gets to them. Or maybe they're not just summer crazy, they just get to try to kidnap the master for fun without repercussion. Yeah, it's definitely the later. I suppose that's the problem with relying on actually accessible content since it misses a lot of characterization that comes through these limited time events. Ya know, that makes me wonder how you'd handle servants like Miss Crane or Vitria who so far as I know only exist in the Event content.
Regarding characters like Miss Crane, Vritra, or Galatea, I'd cover them as they are in events, since it is what I have. A character's first appearance does tend to get some good development, thankfully. :D
So about Anne and Mary being involved with each other apparently there was a rumor that either one of them or both of them had the hots for each other when they were disguised as men and they had a rendezvous where both of them revealed their true genders again this was just a rumor but I hope FGO dives into that because of how funny that situation would look
Iirc, it was Bonney. During their pirating days the only person prior to her pregnancy that knew she was a woman was Calico Jack, but for Mary nobody ever figured it out. It wasn't till apparently Bonney made moves on Mary (who she thought was a male) did her secret get revealed, a secret that left Bonney very disappointed. Even then, the ones that knew Mary was a woman were Bonney and Jack (he was told to clear a misunderstanding that the two were involved).
I like the idea of servants choosing outfits that didn't exist in their own time but I think those are better kept to variants like summer or Santa or spiritron dress I think the devs agree too cause we haven't seen too many out there outfits outside of those three since Anne&Mary An interesting thought Is what Anne&Mary thinks about there last stand misinformed from what actually happened? Do they think the crew was cowards when they were just drunk as hell Interesting thought they could play on for more story with them could also lead into us getting Calico Jack as a servant
I mean, in terms of more recent examples, there's Ibuki who specifically gets really into Modern Day culture and fashion, so she starts wearing sweaters and such. It's not her final ascension, though, so it's not treated as her strongest form necessarily.

Their Noble Phantasm is writtened as 比翼にして連理 in Japanese, two birds sharing one pair of wings, two tree with branches connected. It's a phrase describing an inseparable bond of a couple originated from ancient Chinese poem. Don't know what free bird is about tho
Probably a reference to the sayings “free as a bird” and the common belief that pirates valued freedom and were very egalitarian as seen by the two women being held in some esteem among the crew
It's kind of a shame because every other pirate character you would like to take popular interpretation of character turned more fate like but these two just kind of feel like they just wanted two hot strong pirate ladies and then they proceeded to not dig in a deeper than
I suppose if one were to come up with a justification for the bunnysuits and the "Freebird" part of their NP's name, it'd probably be...well, all the pirate Servants have made it clear that one of their first priorities is enjoying themselves, it's just that they don't have the uh...specific tastes in a way that Teach or Roberts do. For their NP, they enjoy being as wild and free as they please, with obvious connotations with birds. And, well, it's probably the best thing the translation could come up with considering Liking1205's remark. And without a need to conceal any part of their identity, why not dress how you please? Especially given that that ascension stage (and final ascension) is generally representative of a Servant having gotten fond of the Master ingame, along with the two of them not exactly being subtle with things (cough cough their Archer valentines' and Bond CEs). Granted, they're both handwave explanations... Speaking of CEs, the From Wonderland CE seems to be the only thing that shows them actually being on-model in terms of their stated sizes. Or at least, closer, anyhow. It also lets you get a clearer look at Mary's scars.
I agree that the characters would, upon finding themselves in a different second life, might take the opportunity to enjoy things they never could before. Alas, these videos are about accuracy, and so if it is too blatantly out of place, I have to smack them for it. x_x

Mmmmmm. It seems that the pirates in FGO are not on a good roll in general terms, especially compared to their real historical versions (only a handful are saved) I'm not surprised that they've slowly started to sideline the pirate Servants: both in story and in events. Either way, Anne Bonny & Mary Read are that group of Servants that I always say "WHO?" since they are so insignificant or do not leave a good impact since their Debut (there are many quite forgettable Servants in FGO)
Thankfully sometimes it's good, like how they dig at the forced spelling of "Altria". By the way, I am 100% not calling her that in the King Arthur video.
