I find it interesting how he has the same vibes as Merlin (Mysterious, powerful, kind of goofy) but unlike Merlin who is incapable of feeling human emotions and only imitates them, Gong clearly cares about others and doesn't let his power get to his head, as people with a lot of power tend to let happen
Merlin does care he only thinks hes incapable becaus he denies his human part, in Garden of Avalon its clear that he felt regret, guilt but also care for Artoria and the knights. He also cares about Guda and Ana...
I just heard his my room lines after hitting bond 5 and he has a specific quote about staring at the tamamos. After denying he was ogling them, and instead sensed Daji, he trails off and goes silent. Master then comments he looks like he's about to cry, but he denies it. My guess is he felt guilty for killing something so beautiful and was trying to find another ending to his story without killing her, which is evidenced by his egg plan for Koyan. She comments that "you've been sitting on this plan long before you knew me, huh?" It lends to his "master strategist" personality were even a "suboptimal" success eats away at him even after he's become a spirit.
Another similarity with Merlin is that we are probably just dealing with a projection of him while the "original" is still alive. Merlin is trappes in his tower in Avalon using Independent Manifestation and for Taigong Wang a few things 8includng his bon 5 mats) imply we are dealing with a similar case here. I really didn't enjoy yhe Tunguska but Wang has been a highlight for me. Like some people have stated before, he's a Merlin that haven't lost touch with his humanity or emotions and his bondlines are quite good. Overall a solid addition to the roster i'd say
the japanese writer misinterpreted the word fengshen (封神) as "god sealing", hence it does not grant divine attribute as it should, instead it seal enemy skills, super weird
about future events, taigong appears in the latest grail front event, white castle by day, dark castle by night, and he is as much of a strategist as in tunguska, tho he is ''captured'' early in the story, he took measures to help you before getting taken and had plans behind the scenes that i wont spoil about, and as an enemy in the same event, he actually comes up with a trap for you, this got many players(like me) by surprise, the only grail front i ever lost was against taigong himself

Maybe they're saving the ability to transform others into divine spirits for his Grand Caster form if we ever see it, the ability to elevate mortal men to the status of a god is such an insane feat, specially in the world of fate as a whole so perhaps that level of power cant be contained within a standard rider vessel
Taigong Wang has 2 Confirmed Noble Phantasms: 'Da Shen Bian' and 'Si Bi Xiang'. He has two other 'Supposed' Noble Phantasm: 'Fengshen Yanyi' and 'Yuxu Tixian - Fengshen Zhixing' but they are unconfirmed but heavily implied to be Anti Beast Noble Phantasms by the Story itself. Will Just have to wait till the release of FGO material XV for the confirmation. Great video nonetheless. Hoping for the time you reach the Indian servants.
I'm kinda dreading the Indian servants to be honest, because I know next to nothing about Indian mythology. I'll have to do a massive amount of digging to figure everything out.
I think they purposely made Taigong Wang's overall depiction and characterization somewhat tame because the Xian are OP much like Indian characters where they get nerfed, and that the focus of the chapter was Tunguska herself and not him, unlike say Arjuna where he's the LB4 king (although he is still nerfed). Not only that he's the only servant as of yet to state it himself that he's much more fit as another class let alone a Grand IIRC, so being a Rider probably limits his potential. There is so much they can do here in the future, hoping he makes a comeback in OC.
Servants can be summon in different stages of aging, Bathory and Li ShuWen being prime examples, it's perfectly reasonable to have TaiGong Wang be young.
Good video! You mentioning the problem with bias in historical accounts, particularly in relation to Nero, does make me curious about how any videos you do on Roman or Roman-era servants will turn out, and what kind of response they will get. There is something really fascinating about Rome, but it can be so hard to work out any sense of what was real, and what was the author's personal agenda. And the Roman characters in Fate are still kind of getting biased treatment. When Zenobia came out on NA in October, I remember seeing a couple arguments, because apparently FGO has a small following of Roman super-fans (like, the kind of people who think the Legion are the good guys in New Vegas) who were really mad about Zenobia being sympathetic in FGO, because they genuinely saw it as "Roman=Good" and "Not Roman=Bad". I'm a big believer that when discussing historical figures as real people, it's best to cut away as much bias and deification/vilification as possible, and seeing people as the humans they are, for both good and bad. So I appreciate you doing your best to be factual with historical figures, and making note of the difference between historical account and myth/legend! I think you've done a good job so far!
Thanks! I too am of the belief that one should try to cut away the agendas and biases that so often afflict history. I am the sort of person who likes to stick to facts - what can be proven. Do I have my own opinions and biases? Of course I do. I've hinted at many of them in my videos, but even with those I still try to base my views on things that can be proven or have solid evidence. And... spoiler alert? The way the next video is looking, I may be revealing much more of my personal views than ever before - though this is more of a special exception rather than a sign of things to come. Dobrynya Nikitich and the circumstances of her legend can't help but attract my critical eye - especially in the light of events that have occurred since her original release on JP.
Much like Grand Lancer can turn allies into Romans when his standard version can't... I imagine Wang's Grand Caster version would be able to turn allies into divinities and demons. If they never give him Grand Caster this capability then they're just missing yet another opportunity.

Well the name for his skill one in Japanese(or chinese in this case) is 原始兵法, well it can literally be translated to "Primitive Tactics" or "Primitive Art of War", so that's that i guess

I know that many people quite like this Servant (especially in NA), but I don't know... There is something that I don't quite like or convince about the character. Maybe because he shares many elements with Merlin, but he is from another mythology (without the grace of the OG Merlin)? Maybe because he is a Grand Servant Class candidate, but he doesn't take that role very seriously (also the role that he would have is dubious to say the least)? Or maybe that the character is too convenient since he can do whatever he wants at all times (but I think this is for plot reasons or simply bad writing)? Despite everything, I would say that Taigong Wang is ok in general (it is still much better compared to the treatment that Nezha received, especially if you compare it to the legend and historical figure that she is)

The similarities are there but Merlin comes from a myth-based origin and is concerned with magecraft, while Taigong is ambiguously human but then ascends into a Xian (higher than a god) depending on sources but he's much more like a dutiful strategist and masterful trickster. You should read the origin novel Houshin Engi where Taigong is the central figure, or you can read the shounenfied manga adaptation. He's tasked with 'sealing' and 'deitifying' 365 powerful spirits (both are pun meanings from Houshin), defeating Daji, helping with ending one big dynasty and transitioning of the next one, recruiting heroes and leading armies. Taigong is *the* team player and he participates in the building and running the country. While he looks powerful and can do almost anything, his wisdom, good virtue and professionalism are the main traits and the reason he's chosen for completing the Houshin list and being called Master strategist.
I think Taigong's super interesting. While I know Tunguska's story has mixed opinions, I thought it was pretty solid and I really liked his depiction. I've quickly grown to love this character and I'm super excited to see his future involvement in the story. Here's hoping we eventually Caster Taigong.
8:10, honestly, although unflatering its no less true than man's proclivity toward aggression and violence perpetuated through history the feminist movement loves to saddle all modern men with. it's is just violence of different kind, mean girl syndrome elevated to its final consequences. FGO is a homage to human history, heroes and heroines, but also villains and villainesses. it doesn't exonerate them of their sins, but present their behavior as all too human. Medea's original tale was never a villain as she had the endorsement to both Hera AND Zeus to do what she did. it was latter readers who did not belong to said faith that started to judge her actions through a more universal lens.
Ultimately, everyone's actions are their own. If they do bad things, then punish them individually. Don't do collective punishment or slander a whole group with the same brush, you know? That's my thoughts on such things.
Imma be honest, Taigong here was the only good thing to come out of Tunguska in my opinion. The writing and conclusion for Tunguska itself was garbage, though the screw up with the Ivan raid on NA will never not be funny 😅
Oh my god... somehow I forgot about that! It's a good thing I wasn't interested in the Ivan raid, otherwise I'd have been PISSED. I ended up farming the final Beast 4 raid a ton with Melusine. :D
@@CrazyYurie I wasn’t expecting to get any raids done, given how quick they were completed on JP, but this one was just too damn funny. The only raid I really got to do was the final one against the head bitch herself. Let’s just say that Barghest put in a lotta work for me (and no, I don’t have Koyan Light to Buster reload 😅) Otherwise, I just wanted to get Tunguska over with as fast as possible. The story and nods sucked, and they didn’t even have the decency to let us actually kill Koyan at the end. Again, Taigong here was the only good thing we got out of Tunguska in my opinion. And thankfully he’s in my Chaldea 😅
