The July 20 plot failed because the windows in the conference hut were open, allowing the blast to escape and not bounce back onto the meeting participants. The meeting was moved from the bunker to the hut because the weather was hot and the bunker was insufferable. But the photos from the aftermath of the bombing show people in heavy coats, suggesting that the meeting was moved to a less lethal spot for some other reason.

Although this movie has been criticized for inaccuracy, you have to take an audience with you, and this video shows it to be a faithful representation. I thought the guy at the end who steps in front of Stauffenberg must have been 'Hollywood-ised', but if there's something to support it, fair enough. It downplays the depravity of the Nazis post-event actions, but overall it seems good. Stauffenberg must have been a considerable figure, and a worthy hero for modern Germany

ty for this vid. I really like to watch videos that separate fact from fiction. there was a website that used to do it called reel to real, but they don't have a lot of movies to search from. one thing that gets me is why would anybody leave out anything. granted it would probably be an 8 hr movie lol but a lot of based on a true story movies make up drama where the real events had enough drama that there isn't any point to create fake drama. that's why I could never be a director. I could never tell the full story.

I'm sure Fromm spared the 4 men from a fate worse than death. They were doomed either way but would have been tortured and brutally killed. It was sort of an act of mercy in a way. He could not have saved them. When some of the resistance members were hanged Hitler had insisted to use pianowire and hang them from meat hooks. Hitler later enjoyed watching the film made of that.

Kinda wild that they went through so much effort for a coup when they could of just used one suicide bomber guy, or one guy in a meeting, pulling a gun and killing hitler. Yeah, that guy would of died right away, but that would of been 1 guy dying for the greater good vs an entire group of people.

I always wondered about the scene after the July 15 attempt showing the meeting with Goerdeler and if it was historically correct. If it was known a warrant was issued for Goerdeler, why would so many of the major conspirators be allowed to be meeting with him in one place? If there was a warrant I guess they should assume that he had been (or was) under surveillance by the gestapo. Having all those men together at one time would have been dangerous indeed.

I would note that whilst it is now known that Tresckow drafted the Valkyrie revisions, it was believed until 2007 with the new release of documents by the Russians (and around the time the script would have been written) that Stauffenberg was responsible for the revisions. The writers most likely used the best information that was available at the time.

One inaccuracy is that they show (in an amazing scene) Hitler landing on a Junkers 52 plane code D-2600 “Immelmann II” lend by Lufthansa, although this plane was frecuently used by him in the past, by that time, he was flying a FW-200 Condor, a larger, 4 engine plane out of a recommendation from Hitler’s personal pilot, general Hans Baur.

most of the differences were just technicalities. the essence of the events were still captured very well, even if timelines were squeezed and it took a bit of an optimisitc tone. the smoothbrains on comment sections making cheap remarks about how Nazis spoke with British accents are just noise. A movie of this scale would struggle to be produced by the German film industry, and even if it was, the lack of English dialogue and Anglosphere film stars would hamper its box office performance.

When I saw the film the 2 worst aspects were the excess of English actors. Everyone speaking with an English accent and expecting the audience to believe they were German is a stretch. showing the complexity and size and high levels of security at the wolfs lair would have also added another dimension to the movie but this wasn't really conveyed. Staffenburg would be considered to be a German national hero so as a measure of appreciation alot more German or Austrian actors should have been used. So unlike for example Schindlers List or Das Boot which you can look at repeatedly and always see some added nuance this was very much a see once and then never again kind of film.

If a soldier starts to think he is a conscience of the world and acts against his superiors, his head of state or the Fatherland, he is a traitor. Plain and simple. (Even if Stauffenberg had succeeded, there would have been no peace with Allies, in Germany a civil war would have broken out instead and the fronts would have collapsed much faster, causing a lot more military and especially civilian deaths than happened in reality.)

You are not correct. In a normal system of military command an officer is granted and more so is expected to refuse orders that endanger the troops under his command for no military benefit, as a whole. The word is "normal". And Hitler's military was not a normal one. The film is correct that the officers and troops made an oath to Hitler, himself, first and only, above even Germany. This is ludicrous to do. It was obvious Germany would lose the war very early as they had no source of oil after they lost north Africa. Rommel notes this. And the Cauasus oil reserve are so distant as to make them irrelevant-a fantasy. Many officers realized that the war was unwinable. The military doesn't fight just to fight and die. But rather, they fight for a purpose. Hitler asked them to die for no purpose but his ego. And that is not what an thinking officer does.

the movie is very histrically accurate. the movie designers forgot to mention about the officer corp disillusion after stalingrad that coverted staffenberg pro nazi to anti nazi. also staffenberg was a critic of the poor, helpless, low profile, oppressed jews in germany who actually were swindling, socially destructive, money grubbing scourge on the german culture and society who wanted to communize germany and control its wealth that they succeeded in russland and created USSR that the bolshvik jews control.

Although this movie is visually very well done. That's where my compliments stop. I think Tom Cruise was horrible as Claus Von Stauffenberg. Tom Cruise does not act German and acted in ways no German would. He portrayed Von Stauffenberg as a boy scout who was always completely against the National Socialist and Hitler. This is so far from reality. In the 1930s he like most other Germans, was awestruck by Hitler and during the war when things were going well for the Wehrmacht. Stauffenberg like many of the other conspirators (Wehrmacht Officers), completely supported the war and Hitler. It was only when the tide started turning, did a lot of them join the conspiracy to remove Hitler. Also several officers that served with him in Poland said several times he made Anti Semitic remarks and that he knew what the Waffen SS were doing to the Jews in Poland. But the way Tom Cruise portrays this person, you would never believe that. Another inaccuracy in this film is the constant use of the Hitler Salute or "Hitlergruß" by members of the Wehrmacht (Heer/Army, Luftwaffe/Airforce, Kreigsmarine/Navy). The Wehrmacht refused to adopt the Hitler salute officially and was able for a time to maintain its own customs. The only time they were required the Hitler salute was while singing the Horst Wessel Lied and the National German Anthem and in non-military encounters both within and outside the Wehrmacht (for example, when greeting members of the civilian government). At all other times they were permitted to use their traditional salutes. Only after the July 20th plot (the events in this film), they were required to use the Hitler Salute or "Hitlergruß" at all times. In addition, in this film only once do you see Von Stauffenberg use a traditional military salute and that was in the scene in North Afrika. Interesting enough, the one time in the movie when they didn't use it and should of, was is in another Fictional scene when Von Stauffenberg went to see Hitler at the Berghof. In the movie, neither him or General Fromm saluted Hitler or any of the senior staff (Field Marshall Goering, Reichsfuhrer Himmler, Goebbells, Speer, General Keitel) when they walked in the room. In reality "Operation Valkyrie" was first approved and then sent to Stauffenberg. He never met went to Berghof. Also the scene with the assignation attempt by Treskow and his adjutant with the liquor bottles (2nd scene in the movie) actually took place way earlier before Stauffenberg was injured in North Afrika. It was also not General (actually at this time he was an Oberst - Colonel) Treskow who goes to Berlin to retrieve the Un-exploded bomb in the liquor bottles from Oberst Brandt. It was his Adjutant. So his meetings with General Olbricht and then Oberst Brandt never happened. In that fictional scene they also very briefly mention General Hans Oster who was a big part of the conspiracy with General Beck, but is only mention this once in the film. I could go on and on about the historical mistakes in this movie. There quite a lot.

Re: "he made Anti Semitic remarks and that he knew what the Waffen SS were doing to the Jews in Poland." This is unfair overreach. While reportedly he did made anti-semitic remarks, he was appalled by Kristalnacht. Hoffman's book "Stauffenberg" (or "Secret Germany", Baigent &Lee both of which I read) also reports he walked out of a lecture by J. Streicher the virulent anti-semite and brushed back an SS officer who challenged him as he was leaving. Morover, he belonged to Stefan George's circle which didn't tolerate anti-semitism. Most importantly, the same book reports, during visits to the Russian front, Stauffenberg came to know of the mass murders and said "These crimes must not be allowed to continue". He was involved in Resistance activities and planning from that time as well.

Evidently, you are educated in this department but you're missing the mark. Stauffenberg starting becoming disillusioned in 1942, you know, when the Nazis held the most territory, when they were at their peak? He wasn't just trying to save his own skin, hell look at most German generals they survived the war and even wrote books about it. Also, it's Oberstleutnant, what the fuck is an Oberst-Colonel? Offensichtlich bist du mit der deustchen Sprache nicht gut vertraut, nor the ranking of the Wehrmacht
