Why aren't the gears made of metal instead of plastic? Seems as though it would last longer and not increase the cost too much.

This was so helpful. My Addi 22 is sometimes harder to turn in the first 3 rounds then smooth as silk. Never a drop stitch. Is that normal? I always use very loose tension on those rows and cast on loosely.
