We need more programs like this. Education is crucial and not enough people have it so that we can save our planet. I hope there are programs similar for men.
One of the most efficient and long term solutions to stop poaching is to educate the youth on the importance of protecting animals and the environment.

FrozenEternity Well, I'm not an anti-feminist; I am wholeheartedly against prejudice against women but I'm just as much against giving them certain privileges on no grounds but their gender. A politician in my local community advocated for a bill that would force employers to pay members of the LGBTQ more than other employees because it is harder for them to get a job, as a gay man I fought against that piece of legislation. If you want equal rights you should advocate for equal rights and not hold a double standard in which a men-only group is sexist and backwards and a women-only groups are just and progressive.
This is Africa my friend. Abuse against women is terrible here. Women start at zero here so they need groups that empower them more then men just to get close to meeting the half way in terms of opportunities offered
Wait a minute: they said they sometimes call armed units. So who's that? They're the people these badasses call to go high threat level, wouldn't they be the real story?
Who are the authorities? This whole story is how THEY stop the poaching, but if they just notify people with the actual ability to stop poachers, then why not show those people?
Sim Lucien lack of resources I suppose, y bother scouting for poachers when u need uniforms in cities, these groups do half the job scouting that is, and the authorities do the arresting part of course this is just my opinion, I have no inf on the subject
The video doesn't make sound like they're the scouts (which is an important job). It makes it sound like they're the one's actually stopping poaching, then says they send the armed units because poachers are obviously armed, that's how they kill rhinos and other giant animals in the first place.
They are the ones who disable the snares. It's the snares that are the real killers. The wild is very big in Africa and randomly finding a rare rhino is very unlikely, so the snares are the most efficient way to hunt rhinos. If you disable snares, it makes poaching very hard even if you never do anything else.
They are funded by trophy hunting. Don't worry, usually the trophy hunters are guided to only kill the aging animals and not the ones that haven't reproduced yet. Trophy hunting money also goes to the local communities to incentivize the locals into helping anti-poaching efforts or even setting up their own. The more rhinos, the more trophy hunters can kill, the more money goes to the locals, the the more they want to protect from poachers and the more effectively they can protect them. Yeah, one of the links in the cycle involves the killing of animals, but it is very few compared to the animal mass murder the poachers do. The poachers are the real villains, but they are a product of circumstance and some reformed poachers are the most effective anti poaching activists and they should be encouraged to change sides and not threatened with harsh punishments. The goal is to save as many rare animals as possible and nothing else.
It's only sexism if he thinks they're better at it as a result of some trait inherently related to being a woman. It's possible that he was talking about the effect of being raised on that particular culture with those particular gender roles.
I think it's more how the community perceives women. Men are traditionally warriors. I kind of see this as an African version of what happened in the American Antibellum period. Women were seen as pure and good, and needed to be protected, but women flipped that on everyone's head by saying that because they are so pure and good, we will champion progressive movements like women's rights and antislavery.
So good to know that half a world away out of my sphere of influence there are people actively making a difference to save animals from humankind destruction. If I had the financial resources, I would be part of the effort to support their work on behalf of all caring people.
Someone should bribe tribe leaders to make certain animals sacred, and killing one equal to that of killing a person. And let that teaching spread. In the Bible it says - God said too them “ be fruitful and multiply, replenish the earth and subdue it” genesis 1-28
