Wasn't John exiled to Patmos? I thought he lived to a natural end.

He was boiled alive and still survived

Is there any record of this, in the antique Roman chronicles? Up tp now all of this seems to be a legend. Thanks...

I'd say it's more a testimony to God's love and power than to John's faith. It's not about our faith. It's about its Object.

One of the historical sources is “The Prescription Against Heretics,” Chapter 36, Tertullian (200-206 AD) writes: “Since, moreover, you are close upon Italy, you have Rome, whence there comes even into our own hands the very authority (of apostles themselves). How happy is its church, on which apostles poured forth all their doctrine along with their blood! where Peter endures a passion like his Lord’s! where Paul wins his crown in a death like John’s [the Baptist], where the Apostle John was first plunged, unhurt, into boiling oil, and thence remitted to his island-exile!”

it's a shame that so many commenters haven't watched the video. The tradition is that he was thrown into a pot of boiling oil- and survived to live out his life in exile on Patmos, where he wrote the book of Revelation.

Interesting story , he did get put in boiling oil , though there wasn't much detail , and somewhere down the track excited to Patmos. There were historians around an many eye witnesses so maybe some merit in it ??

In john 5:43 two messiahs are involved in john 5:43 one messiah is the speaker and he refers to a messiah who will be recognized by the world but Jesus Christ and the real messiah who speaks will not be recognized. Who overlapped the name not his name. They are the same as the real almighty god name that was given to moses who was silenced by satan with the help of Pharasee and saducee and why the name is no longer pronounced by the Jews in exodus 3:14 יהוה‎ YHWH until now.

John is unique among the Apostles. Who else was saved from premature martyrdom by miraculous intervention? Both John and his brother James were promised death by martyrdom by The Lord Jesus ( my understanding ) Is john one of the two witnesses? The scripture, church traditions and reports from the Middle Ages all converge to make this the most reasonable conclusion I AM NOT A MORMAN I've reached this conclusion only by my study of the scriptures and not contorting them to exclude the miraculous

I have never read about the death of John let alone him being boiled in oil in the Bible. I would be very careful about feeding God's children false information. Judgement starts at the pulpit!

@@ChristianEchoes A lot of nonsense was written about the deaths of the apostles Each of them have tales of each of them dying in different countries - so they were either very special or one of the countries if not both is a lie
