How is a person justified before God? How are we saved? Is it faith alone in Christ alone? Or are we justified through faith plus our obedience and "good works"?
Pastor Jeff Durbin of Apologia Radio and Apologia TV answered this question during the Q and A session at the 'Is Mormonism Christian' event in Oahu.

really ... do you think that elohim is evil? ... i don't ... i don't think that elohim told abraham to sacrificed his son ... because elohim does not tempt anyone to do evil ... killing is against the law of elohim and elohim does not change .... as for faith ... what do we do with these verses ... 1Cor 13:2 (ESV2011) And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. John 14:15 (ESV2011) “If you love me, you will keep my commandments. Rom 3:31 (ESV2011) Do we then overthrow the law by this faith? By no means! On the contrary, we uphold the law. Eccl 12:13 (ESV2011) The end of the matter; all has been heard. Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. Deut 5:29 (ESV2011) Oh that they had such a heart as this always, to fear me and to keep all my commandments, that it might go well with them and with their descendants forever! Rev 14:12 (ESV2011) Here is a call for the endurance of the saints, those who keep the commandments of God and their faith in Jesus. grace through faith is given to the righteous ... the messiah came to turn the people away from sin into righteousness thru love and if you the messiah you keep his commandments and his commandment is the same commandments in the old testament ... if paul and the rest of the apostle keep the 10 commandments what make anyone think that they don't have to? ... Rom 2:13-15 (ESV2011) For it is not the hearers of the law who are righteous before God, but the doers of the law who will be justified. For when Gentiles, who do not have the law, by nature do what the law requires, they are a law to themselves, even though they do not have the law. They show that the work of the law is written on their hearts, while their conscience also bears witness, and their conflicting thoughts accuse or even excuse them Jas 1:22-25 (KJV) But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed. 1John 2:3-8 (KJV) And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him. He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked. Brethren, I write no new commandment unto you, but an old commandment which ye had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which ye have heard from the beginning. Again, a new commandment I write unto you, which thing is true in him and in you: because the darkness is past, and the true light now shineth. and again let me put this verse out there ... Rev 14:12 (KJV) Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.

Romans 4:5: but to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly his faith is counted for righteousness. I cannot stand these self righteous wolves anymore, they are really trusting in their own righteousness, their own works, the way a person lives does not prove or disprove salvation, it is what they believe, lots of Christians who are actually saved, do not do any good works at all, in fact they might be still living like a lost person, avoid these hypocrites they will do nothing but lead you to hell, they are the people in Matthew 7:21-23: they will be standing there saying to the lord, but we repented of our sins, we did all these wonderful WORKS, absolutely disgusting these self righteous pig's.

Julian Clarke the law was school master to teach us that we are incapable of keeping the law. You are mixing doctrines and causing confusion. You can't go to the old testament to prove how we are saved today as it was a mystery not revealed except to Paul. Satan didn't even know about this and he knew Gods word. That's why he wanted to kill Jesus he thought he succeeded. He didn't know that God plan was to complete every thing in Christ. 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 is all you need to be saved.

Yes it does appear so. But if this troubles you as to whether you're not showing good works, all one needs to do is go to Jesus, as this preacher said. It doesn't help to try to work more, because then you're working and trusting your own righteousness. It must come from a change in heart based on understanding the gospel, that Jesus has already died for your sins and now you have a relationship with him and eternal life - from this belief in your heart, your receive the holy spirit - so seek more faith and a closer relationship with Jesus! That is how your heart changes based on grace through faith, not your on works. Justification is solely through faith in the gospel of Jesus Christ. The more you just go to Him in faith that he will respond and reward you, the more you pray and meditate on the word, then Jesus will manifest himself to you and change your heart through the holy spirit.

You are right. Jeff uses the word "faith" in a 2 for 1 manner - Grace through Faith - the emphasis James uses in his chapter. But I do think grace is an important emphasis for clarity.
@bluebirdeagles9071
@bluebirdeagles9071 7 лет назад
You should understand grace and faith being mentioned in Ephesians 2:8,9 . "Grace" is the part of God or from Him and "faith" is the part of man or from his heart . So we can safely say "Salvation is by the grace of God , through the faith of man".

We are saved by grace in the sense that while we were still sinners Christ died for us, what then now that we are saved by grace shall we continue sinning? certainly not for we are a slave to whom we yield ourselves slaves to obey. We are saved through faith but faith isn't simply a mental construct, it's the process whereby we entrust our souls to Jesus while obeying his commandments. And His commandment is that we love one another, Paul says in Galatians 5: 6 "neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avail anything, but faith working through love. You ran well who hindered you from obeying the truth"

I think it's also helpful to look at how works and belief are used interchangeably almost in scripture, to point out how faith is evidenced by works. Check out Hebrews 3:18-19 and the tail end of Romans 9, which sounds very similar to Hebrews but talks about something different.

Alexander Albano the context of james is not salvation but fellowship with god and judgment from this life from god and the judgment seat of Christ “For judgment is without mercy to one who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment.” ‭‭James‬ ‭2:13‬ ‭ESV‬‬ The only judgment I know of for Christians is the judgment seat of Christ the judgment is based on how we lived our lives as Christians our works and we will receive it not receive eternal rewards “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil.” ‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭5:10‬ ‭ESV‬‬ “each one's work will become manifest, for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed by fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done. If the work that anyone has built on the foundation survives, he will receive a reward. If anyone's work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire.” ‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭3:13-15‬ ‭ESV‬ Faith without works is dead it’s still faith just useless that’s what james is trying to say not that is not faith and that is doesn’t save it still saves “Do you want to be shown, you foolish person, that faith apart from works is useless?” ‭‭James‬ ‭2:20‬ ‭ESV‬‬ “yet we know that a person is not justified by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, so we also have believed in Christ Jesus, in order to be justified by faith in Christ and not by works of the law, because by works of the law no one will be justified.” ‭‭Galatians‬ ‭2:16‬ ‭ESV‬‬ “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes has eternal life.” ‭‭John‬ ‭6:47‬ ‭ESV‬‬ “I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand.” ‭‭John‬ ‭10:28‬ ‭ESV‬‬ Faith alone once saved always saved is the good news

This is still works salvation. We are saved by faith alone in Christ alone, our evidence is not our works but God's promise that whosoever believeth in the Son hath everlasting life. We SHOULD live righteous lives, the book of James speaks about how to be a profitable servant, it's written to saved believers about discipleship not salvation. You can't say it's by faith alone and then say "true faith will always produce works" that's just another form of self-righteousness because you're ultimately not looking to Christ for your salvation or assurance, but to your own performance. I'm not saying people should go live sinful lives, you should live a Godly life, I'm saying whether you do or not has nothing to do with your salvation because it is not by works but by grace through faith.

Other wise its is a dead work !⚰ Never Knew You !! 21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty "WORKS" in your name?’ 23 And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’
@xintimidate
@xintimidate 11 месяцев назад
@@peterjacobs7051 Your own verse you used debunked everything you said. Lawlessness is breaking God's law. Sin is transgression of the law. People who practice sin will not inherent the kingdom of God. God will not be kicked by people who claim to follow him but live like heathens. The marvelous works that verse is referring to is theie dead works that they think can save them. Hyper gracers who distort the gospel actually do believe they are saved by works. It's by dead works. Works are also evil deeds it's not just doing good. If you are saved you produce good works. Faith without works is dead. And before you start running to Paul to try to contradict every other Bible writer and Jesus himself I suggest you read what Peter has to say about free gracers who distort Paul's word in 2 Peter 3:16 and before you go and quote Ephesians 2: 8-9 I suggest you read verse 10. Free gracers always negate that verse who quoting Ephesians 2. Anyone who practices sin, Christ's sacrifice does not pertain to them if they don't repent. Free gracers seen to think the Christian life ends at justification. That is just the beginning. The Christian life is about sanctification. And before you bring up the thief on the cross. He is the exception to the rule. Not the rule. If he continued to live he would have lived in Christ and been truly born again. Free grace is a doctrine of devil's and literally nobody in the Christian church believed in that heresy until John Calvin created it and when John Calvin created it he believed in sanctification. He didn't just think you can live in lawlessness and still be saved

I have written it with parchment and ink through My prophets, behold, I have etched My words in stone with My own finger,[1] yet who has received My message? Who has obeyed My Word, as it is written? I tell you the truth, only those fully converted in their innermost parts have accepted My message, and only those who truly love Me obey My Word. For they remain in My love and delight in My Commandments, knowing I AM WHO I AM. So then what of all these smoking firebrands who surround you, who do always rebel against Me in word and by deed? Hypocrites! Shall My children profess to know Me with their lips, and then go and sin before My face in that selfsame hour?! To abide in His doctrine is to LIVE by His words, a shining example of righteousness, striving always to make your love perfect through obedience, that those close to you, even to the passerby, may see your good works and glorify your Father in Heaven. Protestants miss this and don't understand that's what this passage is referring too. Because the works of righteousness are not redemptive because of the manner in which one is trying to be justified. Not because one cannot be justified under the law.

This is BY FAR the best explanation I've seen between Paul's stance of justification in Romans 4 and James' stance of faith without works is not a saving faith in James 2, which SO MANY people misuse to contradict one another when it comes to soteriology. Thank you so much Pastor Jeff Durbin!!! This was truly a discernment by the Holy Spirit.

'For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God...' Ephesians 2:8
@Bi0Dr01d
@Bi0Dr01d Год назад
Ephesians 2:8-9 8For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9Not of works, lest any man should boast. However, there is something that the video isn't covering. If a person is living a life with living faith while simultaneously having a desired not to preach the gospel when the gospel is delivered to them, a person can have a problem with his salvation whereas before this may not have been the case. An example of this is when Paul says: 1 Corinthians 9: 16-17 16For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: *for necessity is laid upon me; yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel!* 17For if I do this thing willingly, I have a reward: *but if against my will, a dispensation of the gospel is committed unto me.* In other words, Paul could be genuine in his faith by giving to the poor, comforting the brokenhearted, adopting children, and so on, But preaching the gospel is an absolute requirement for him, and that he would be in trouble if he did not preach it. This would mean that it's possible to have active faith while at the same time having a fear or apprehension to do something else God has commanded, and that can cause a person to not be right standing. In other words, works do seem to be involved. I believe the most accurate interpretation is that when the Bible says that we are not saved by works, it's referring to the works/effort *of the flesh* which struggles to do what is right and also has a lower standard of what is right because it's based on its own feelings or understanding which is not adequate enough to meet God's standard, which therefore becomes filthy rags. However, complete death to the flesh (metaphorically/spiritually speaking) causes a person to live according to The Spirit, which by its very nature does the will of God. So a person is able to fulfill the will of God in a state of rest in the spirit rather than the struggle from the flesh, and because the spirit is the one empowering a person to live righteously, and is therefore not one's own works that he is boasting over, because it is God working through him. Therefore, God also gets the glory in the good deeds we do: Philippians 2:13 - For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure. Does this mean a person is not saved at the initial confession through exercising faith? Not necessarily. The Bible does say that those who call upon the name of the Lord will be saved, and also that with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. However, Jesus also says that they which are *in him* That do not bear good fruit or taken away, and that God purges those who barefoot to bring forth more fruit. This means after the initial confession where person is saved, is therefore expected of us as believers to grow into maturity and eventually produce it good fruit, but if we do not eventually produce good for it, then the believer is taken away. This means that works are indeed involved and required, but it seems to also mean that the context of "works" is different in the spirit than the effort of the flesh and could therefore add context to the scripture which says "Not by works so that no man would boast", because works that are by The Spirit are also gifts from God, and it is also grace.

If true, justifying faith automatically produces good works, then how is it possible for a person to have a true, justifying faith and not have works? Such as in Romans 4:5: But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.

It is not saying you need to be a non-worker to gain it. It is saying that only one who did not gain by works has righteousness accounted. So the fact that Abraham had righteousness accounted (4;3) proves circumcision did not cause entry to justification (4;1-2, 9-10, 11-16).

Works and obedience are two different things, dont get them confused. Can you have faith without obeying the commandments of God? Jesus said, if you love me, keep my commandments; John 14:15. Obeying Gods commandments will produce works, no? Works, righteousness, Holiness are fruits of real saving faith. Just believing is not real faith, James 2:19 KJV 19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. God Bless..👍

What I am hearing is that if we say that we have faith and we fail to manifest works or at least the true intent to manifest them, then it means that we did not really have faith in the first place. Please confirm if I am understanding this correctly. I sincerely want to understand this point of view. From my point of view, faith is like a muscle that needs to be exercised. If we stop to manifest works, or at least a true intent, this muscle weakness. So faith requires a constant effort to keep this faith alive. I actually think that people can have faith in certain degrees but that an any moment we can use our agency to give up in continuing to exercise good works. This does not mean that we did not have faith in the first place, but it means that we can loose faith when we stop striving to exercise it through works. I think this principle is depicted in 2 Timothy 4:7-10 "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith". I do understand that our works do not count as merits to earn salvation (Ephesians 2:8-10) , and that it is only thanks to the gift of grace, which we do not deserve nor earn. However it is clear to me that faith is the means by which we accept the grace for salvation and that works, or a sincere intent, is what keeps faith alive. In other words, our works helps us keep our faith alive in order to receive grace, but if it was not by the grace, our works would be in vain. What I understand in Ephesians 2:8-10 is that we should not boast for our works, because if it was not for grace our works would be in vain.

In Ephesians 2:8-9 it says: “For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; ⭐️NOT AS A RESULT OF WORKS⭐️, so that no one may boast.” Now, there are two ✌️kinds of works: Good Works 👍 ⭐️AND⭐️ 2. Bad Works👎 The phrase “not of works” is talking about a very specific kind of works, called “sin”. We know that because, as Paul explains…David wrote about “the same thing”-only David did not use the word “works”…instead he uses the word “sin”: (Romans 4:6-8) “6 David says the SAME THING when he speaks of the blessedness of the one to whom God credits righteousness ⭐️APART FROM WORKS⭐️: 7 “Blessed are those whose 👉TRANSGRESSIONS are forgiven, whose SINS👈are covered. 8 Blessed is the one whose SIN👈the Lord will never count against them.” From this we can now understand that to be justified for one’s faith “apart from works” means strictly to be justified by faith ⭐️APART FROM SIN⭐️. That’s all that it means. It’s not talking about justification “by faith alone”. It’s talking about sin. “Sin” is a kind of “work” that you do. Notice that in Galatians it says: (Galatians 5:4) “You who are trying to be justified by the law have been alienated from Christ; you have ⭐️FALLEN AWAY FROM GRACE⭐️.” Recall that in Genesis, Adam and Eve SINNED and then they fell from grace. The Galatians sought justification through “works of law” and they likewise, fell from grace. Ergo, a “work of law” or “justification by law” is A SIN. So WHY are these “works of Law” considered a sin? What is Paul going on about? Thankfully, it’s not that difficult to understand. Paul explains: (Romans 11:35) “Who has ever given to God, that God should repay them?” THAT ☝️ is the reason WHY it’s considered a sin. It is a sin because you can never 🗣FORCE God to give you something 🎁 . He’s not your slave . He’s not in debt. He doesn’t “owe” 🤌 you anything. The moment one tries to place God into debt with works-he immediately “falls from grace”. Therefore the one who “works”(aka: sins) will not be justified, while the one who has “faith”🙏WILL be justified. WHY🤔??? Because that other person WASN’T practicing sin-THAT’S “why”. That’s what Paul meant when he wrote the following passage👇: (Romans 4:4-5) “Now to the one who works, his wage is not credited as a favor, but as what is due. 5But to the one who DOES NOT WORK🛠, but believes 🙏 in Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is credited as righteousness👈,” You see Abraham didn’t do that. Abraham did not seek to place God into debt with works. That would have been a sin and Abraham was a righteous man: (Romans 4:2) “For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God.” Now there IS a way to be “justified by works” ⭐️IF⭐️ the works themselves are inspired by God: (Philippians 2:13) “for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.” That’s what makes them “truly good” works: (Ephesians 2:10) “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus ⭐️TO DO GOOD WORKS⭐️, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” These kinds of works are “good 👍works” and they CAN justify you before God. That is what Paul is talking about down here 👇: (Romans 2:13) “for not the hearers of the law are just in the sight of God, but the doers of the law will be ⭐️justified⭐️;” Which is ALSO what James was referring to HERE👇: (James 2:24) “You see that a person is justified by works and ⭐️NOT BY FAITH ALONE⭐️.” These “good works” are the same one’s that justified Abraham: (James 2:21) “Was not Abraham our father JUSTIFIED BY WORKS when he offered up his son Isaac on the altar?” So as I said at the beginning, there are TWO ✌️ types of works being talked about here in scripture. Works of sin-which Abraham was not justified by(Romans 4:2), because he wasn’t trying to place God into debt with works. 2.Good works-which Abraham WAS justified by(James 2:21) because these were works God CAUSED Abraham to do(see Philippians 2:13). So there is no contradiction. 🙌 When we die, we shall stand before God’s throne(2 Cor.5:8) and be judged according to the deeds we have done in life: (Romans 2:6) “6who WILL RENDER TO EACH PERSON ACCORDING TO HIS 👉DEEDS:” If we have cooperated fully with God’s plan then these “good works” will merit the “full inheritance” which is IRREFUTABLY a “reward”: (Colossians 3:24) “knowing that from the Lord you WILL receive the ⭐️REWARD OF THE INHERITANCE⭐️. It is the Lord Christ whom you serve.” And lest anyone think that by “reward” Paul means anything less then “eternal life” itself we shall conclude this thought with Paul’s remarks from Romans 2:7: (Romans 2:7) “7to those who by perseverance in DOING GOOD seek for glory and honor and immortality, ⭐️eternal life⭐️”. So that’s ☝️what the full inheritance of “eternal life” IS. It’s a reward. A reward for the “good deeds” you did AFTER you were spiritually regenerated(saved) and made a “sharer”(Colossians 1:2) of the inheritance. This does NOT MEAN that it’s no longer a gift 🎁-because ALL rewards from God are technically gifts. It is both. It’s a reward and it’s a gift. Gifts can be rewards and rewards can be gifts. Good works are not simply “evidence” of our salvation-they are an INTEGRAL part in God’s judgment regarding whether or not what you were “sharing in”while in life becomes your “full possession” unto life eternal. You are being JUSTIFIED by your good works. It’s NOT by faith alone. That ☝️ is the Catholic perspective on Paul. If anyone thinks they can run to Ephesians 2 in order to prop up the doctrine of Sola Fide they are sorely mistaken, since that passage is not talking about that. James 2:24 closes the door 🚪 on justification by faith alone. Let no one here delude themselves. That’s right-you cannot boast. If your “works” operating ⭐️outside⭐️ of divine grace could merit you eternal life, then you could boast, but they can’t do that. Only the “works” which God put in you to do can merit eternal life: (Philippians 2:13) “for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.” So you cannot boast. Which you ⭐️WOULD⭐️ have understood had you not “stopped reading”. You will never understand another person’s perspective if you STOP LISTENING TO THEM.

We need to realize the word saved, which in Greek is delivered. Delivered from what? Delivered from the power of sin. Regenerated, by the Spirit of God (a new supernatural life) We are saved or delivered by the Divine effect of God by the Divine Spirit of God living in us. This is Paul point in Romans 7 & 8 So deliverance is by God with a new life. This new life produces the characteristics of that life.

@Julian Clarke I didnt say scripture said to read theology, all I meant is that Free Grace Theology answers these difficult Bible verses you seem to be taking completely out of context. If you think you will be saved by keeping the law you will have a rude awakening on the day of judgement, unless of course you have at some point believed in Jesus Christ alone for his free GIFT of eternal life, you cant earn or work for a free gift. Ephesians says For it is by GRACE we have been saved through faith, not of WORKS, lest any man should boast. That verse wouldn't make any sense if you could earn your way to heaven by keeping Gods law. If you have ever believed in Christ alone for his free gift of eternal life in the past you are still saved right now, although you have strayed from grace, you may lose assurance of salvation but not salvation itself until you realize at the end of the day its grace through faith alone in Christ for eternal life! This issue is so important it has eternal consequences! Christ is still holding onto you because Christ said nobody can pluck them from his Father's hand, including yourself (believing false doctrine). You should talk to the Grace Evangelical Society if you are honest and have an open mind, they will explain it more to you, they have a LOT of material defending their position. You may risk losing eternal rewards though if you are teaching others false doctrine. Shawn Lazar wrote a book called Beyond Doubt how to be sure of your salvation. Bob Wilkin has several books including Confident in Christ, Secure and Sure, and the Grace New Testament Commentary that explains every single verse in the entire NT in its correct context. Lucas Kitchen has a book called Salvation and Discipleship is there a Difference? that explains salvation verses and discipleship verses eliminating the confusion. Confusion is of the devil, not of God! Jesus Christs blood is sufficient!
@shanewebster5972
@shanewebster5972 4 года назад
@Julian Clarke 1 John is about tests of fellowship not tests of eternal life, a LOT of people believe this unfortunately! Fellowship is about a close walk with Jesus Christ and a discipleship issue related to eternal rewards. The verse you quoted is not about testing our maintaining your eternal life. Keeping the commandments has nothing to do with gaining eternal life, but it has to do with fellowship with Christ. Without obedience to Gods commandments, no person can truthfully claim an intimate personal knowledge of the Father and the Son. This is a test to discipleship to Jesus, which in no way affects gaining eternal life, but affects eternal rewards. There are other problems with keeping the law in order to gain eternal life, how good does a person have to do keeping the law? You would have to keep the law perfectly, which no human being could do including you! You are making a monumental mistake eternally if you believe you will be able to gain entrance into heaven by keeping the law. God does want us to keep the law, but not in order to gain eternal life! Eternal life is gained the very moment a person believes in Jesus Christ alone for it! The tree of life is an eternal reward, so is entering in through the gates of the city. Again the Grace Evangelical Society explains all of this. This article might help faithalone.org/blog/why-dont-lordship-salvationists-who-pray-for-guidance-find-the-truth/ also faithalone.org/blog/is-lordship-salvation-a-saving-message/

If true, justifying faith automatically produces good works, then how is it possible for a person to have a true, justifying faith and not have works? Such as in Romans 4:5: But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.

James 2 ties in really well with what Jesus taught us in Matthew 5:15-17, "Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven." If we only say we have faith, but no works, then that faith is NOT profitable to our brothers and sisters. It is when we show our faith by our works, that others may see our good works and give glory to our Father who is in heaven.

@Julian Clarke No wonder you are so confused, you pulled verses from Hebrews, literally written for the Jew in Tribulation, which is a faith and works salvation by not taking the mark and believing. You crammed Ezekiel in there and the Gospel of Christ was not even a thing at that time, you took every verse from just about every time period and tried to create a new salvation. If we were saved by works, then there would be ALMOST zero reason to witness to the Jews, but we should be COMPLETELY, you know why, they rejected the Son of God. Faith and works was during the days of Israel in the OT, and salvation is now given by grace as revealed to Paul, and after the rapture, it will be faith and works again. Leave the old testament verses out of Church Doctrine, it's not written TO you but FOR your learning.

@Julian Clarke And this is defeated by Ephesians 2:8-9 since one, you never explained it with all of this, in fact you left it out and two, If works are required to be saved, which means to earn it, then if you break one small part of the law, you break it all, and there would be in effect none saved by grace. Grace would not exist. If you add a drop of works to a gallon of grace, the grace becomes nullified. Your doctrine is messed up, your salvation is of yourself not of God. May you be accursed.

I so much appreciate you Mr. Durbin. I have nothing negative to say about your answer. Only wish to join the conversation. Jesus is the revolutionary subversive apologist. He subverts the thoughts & attitudes of the heart, uprooting worldviews & ideologies. He's interested in complete transformation at the root level of our lives, not just hacking at the leaves of the trees with an axe to grind. Jesus knows how to get people to be intrinsically motivated to change. He doesn't just force us out of our ambivalence toward change, but rather He loves us, He frees us, He uproots & reroots us, He establishes us & causes us to feel secured in Him. All of this Christ does without being bossy or forcing His kingdom on anyone. It's a gift from God !!! And our work is a joy. Our work is a response of thanksgiving, praise, & worship to the author of such a great salvation. We are saved by "GRACE' through faith "IN JESUS CHRIST." The emphasis here appears to be that grace saves us. Grace is the fruit of our trust in Jesus as Lord & Savior. The focus always comes back to Jesus & all of our salvation points back to the Christ. Salvation is in Him alone, not in our works (good deeds). The only thing on us is our response to such a great salvation. God in Christ did all the heavy lifting & we depend on Him, not ourselves. We can't earn it or work or way to God's pleasure. We can't pull ourselves up by our own bootstraps. For some this is welcomed good news, but for others it's hard because they've been use to rescuing themselves. But this grace keeps us from boasting, "should-ing" & "do-do-ing" on ourselves & others. Works (good deeds) are manifested outgrowths of our response to Jesus. It's the kindness of God that leads us toward repentance. God prepared good works for us in advance. Knowing what those "works that He prepared for us in advance to do" are, come about as we discover them with each new door of opportunity God presents to us while we walk humbly with the Spirit of Christ in our daily relationship with Him & one another. It takes insight & a decision to faithfully walk through each door of opportunity. Growing in our understanding of Papa's affection for us motivates us supernaturally. The love of Christ compels us to do the work He has for us daily. Again, Christ is the heavy lifter in this relationship. He is the hero in everybody's story. Without Him we can do nothing. What Christ Jesus can do in our lives is really nothing short of miraculous. People may feel they need signs of our faith for them to accept us, this isn't important for us to prove to others our faith (it's important for them, & that's out of our control) because it makes us people pleases when we put our eyeballs on that false-prize. If our focus is on Christ & our daily walk with Him, rather than seeking the approval of people, His light will shine through us as a result of our daily proximity in Him. He once again is the emphasis & He will make our faith known to the world around us. That's why Scripture tells us to set our minds & hearts on things above, not on earthly things. And to fix our eyes on Jesus, the author & perfecter of our faith.

Yes, if you turn your faith to *depending* on Jesus for your salvation entirely, knowing that as long as you're in him you're saved, then you will lean your trust on him, not your works. That is how you end up receiving the grace of God and living in it, and you receive the holy spirit. It really is as simple as grace through faith alone, not of works. But that faith is a real faith truly dependent on Christ, and when you know he's saved you, what he's done, and the love he has for you, you in turn love him and he transforms your heart by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Peter said that some of Paul writings are hard to be understood ; you are saved by grace through faith ( saved = forgiven or redeemed from sin ) , ( grace = the free gift , the blood of Christ ) , ( faith = Romans 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing , and hearing by the word of God . You must repent of your sins , and start keeping the word of the Father , now through you new husband of faith ; Jesus Christ , as your saviour ( 1st John 1:5-7 ) ; then the blood of the free gift ( Jesus ) can clean you . Jesus had not gone to the cross yet. Repent, the Greek word metanoeo. Meta means change, and noeo means mind. It means to change your mind from trusting in what you do to save you, to trusting in what Jesus did to save you. Based on Ephesians 2:8-9 and Romans 6:23 I have a little thing to help you understand. If I give you a new car, but you have to make the payments, then it is no longer a free gift, and you have something to boast in because you made the payments. Salvation is a free gift from God because Jesus already made the payments for all our sin, and offers it to us as a free gift. We have nothing to boast in because we did nothing for it. If we did one thing for our salvation we would have something to boast in, and we could say Jesus died in vain because we saved our selves. For by grace ye are saved, Jesus already paid our sin debt in full, through Faith, When we believe it. And that not of yourselves, We did nothing for it, It is the GIFT of God NOT OF WORKS, lest any man should boast. John 3:18 Believers can no longer be condemned. Most people are trusting in what they do to save themselves, and believe Jesus died in vain. True believers do not trust in themselves and what we do but trust in what Jesus did and gives it to us as a free gift, because no man can earn salvation. But Jesus paid the price so we would not have to go to hell to pay for our sin debt. He paid the whole price. And we paid 0. It is free. We can not boast in free.

John 1:12 But as many as received him to them gave He power to become the children of God, even to them that believe on His name. Jesus died to pay for the sins of the whole world so that anyone who would accept His one blood sacrifice for their sins would be saved. If good works could save us, then Jesus died in vain. Jesus died for sinners. We are all sinners. You are either one or the other. John 3:18. Paul preached the same gospel Jesus preached. First Corinthians 15:3-4. Remember, salvation is a friendship with God: no more and no less. How do you know? Concerning the Holy Spirit, Jesus said, "Whoever believes in Me shall have rivers of living water bubbling up inside them." Conversely, if you do not have those rivers of living water, neither are you saved. Do you know Christ? If not, ask and you will receive! Christ died on a Cross so that you may know Him; it is the criteria on which you will be saved or condemned. Jesus Christ is the light of the world.

Loving God and keeping his commandments is our sole purpose in life and Calvinism claims Jesus obeyed the law for them. This is all about salvation, not just sanctification. Mathew 5:20 For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven. Jesus was saying if we do not love God and obey him we will not enter heaven. Hebrews 5:9 And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him; James 1:12 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him. Jesus was asked what we must do to be saved and he said remember the commandments, remember God's law, remember the summation of God's law to love God and love your neighbor. But according to Calvin Jesus did this for us. That is the doctrine of faith alone, a false dead faith. So why did Calvin say this. Lawlessness. To justify a lifestyle of sin. God will not be mocked you reap what you sow.

Often when discussing the Bible with the “religious” about salvation, you will hear, “But faith without works is dead”! “What about James 2”? Does James 2 tell us that works are needed for salvation? No, James is simply a book written to “already saved” people exhorting them to do good works. First, we need some verses that say we are saved without works. • “For by grace are ye SAVED through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: NOT OF WORKS, lest any man should boast” (Eph 2:8,9). • “Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of WORKS? NAY: but by the law of faith” (Rom 3:27). • “But to him that WORKETH NOT, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness” (Rom 4:5). • “Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness WITHOUT WORKS” (Rom 4:6). • “NOT BY WORKS of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy He saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost” (Titus 3:5). • “And if by grace, then is it NO MORE OF WORKS: otherwise grace is NO MORE grace. But if it be of works, then it is NO MORE grace: otherwise work is no more work” (Rom 11:6). I think you get the point. We are not saved by works. It is clear. Then what about, “Faith without works is dead”? This is a true statement. However, “dead” does not mean “unsaved”. It means “inactive/useless”. Let us start with verse 14. “What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? Can faith save him?” (James 2:14). The first part of this verse uses the word “profit”. We have already seen that salvation is a gift (Rom 5:15-20) and not of works. As a result, you cannot “profit” salvation. In the second part of the verse, James asks his saved brethren, “Can faith save him”? Well, the answer is no. Stay with me! The question we need to ask is, “Save them from what?” It is not from hell, as James is writing to believers-they are already saved (use of bretheren in James 1:2). Hell is not mentioned one time in James. What are they being saved from? Judgment (see verse 13). Faith will not save a believer from judgment. There are two other forms of judgment mentioned in the Bible. • The chastening hand of God. God will discipline His own. (Heb 12:5,6) • The Judgment Seat of Christ where our works are tested. (1 Cor 3:10-15) Let’s go to verse 18. Before I start, we have to realize who is speaking. IT IS NOT JAMES. Seriously! James has created a fictional character that begins to speak… sort of like me telling you a joke: “one guy said to the other”; I have just created two fictitious men. How do we know this? Verse 18 starts with, “ye a MAN may say”. James didn’t say, “Verily I tell you” or “I say unto thee”. James creates a fictional man (ye a MAN may say). It is this man that is now talking. James actually calls the man vain in verse 20. I will substitute Bob for “man” to show clarity. Yea, Bob (a man) may say, “Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.” Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble but wilt thou know, O vain Bob (man), that faith without works is dead? (Taken from James 2:18-20) Yes, it is HUMAN VAINITY that thinks we have anything to offer God for salvation. The Bible is clear. Salvation is a FREE GIFT to anyone who believes the simple gospel message. Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar (verse 21)? The same question we asked about the word “save” in verse 14 is the same question we need to ask in verse 18. The question is, “Justified before whom?” It is NOT God. “What shall we say then that Abraham our father, as pertaining to the flesh, hath found? For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but NOT before God” (Rom 4:1,2). WORKS justify us before Man. Man looketh on the outward but God knoweth the heart (1 Sam 16:7). On to verse 22, which reads: “Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect.” Remember Jesus’s ministry. He said to his disciples many times “ye of LITTLE faith”, while telling the Gentile centurion “I have seen no GREATER faith than this”? From this we know that there are different levels of faith. WORKS bring faith to perfection. Notice the word, “perfect”. We see this word “perfect” when talking about works in 2 Tim 3:16,17. “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.” NOTICE, “the man of God” (already saved) may be perfect unto all good works. This is not saying that any flesh can be perfect. It is saying we are to be prepared unto all good works. This is confirmed in Titus. “This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men” (Titus 3:8). I hope this helped explain “faith without works is dead”. It is a true statement. Faith that does not work is “useless or inactive”. It doesn’t profit anything. It is not saying that works are necessary FOR salvation as that would contradict so many passages of scripture. FAITH ALONE in the gospel of Jesus saves from hell, but without works, that “saving faith” is unprofitable; it is “useless”. It will not produce anything. James is a book written to exhort people who are already saved to do good works.

It's not even a question of dead faith vs living faith. Its a question of what the definition of faith is. And if you have faith, you wouldn't turn away those in need. Therefore the "work" or act of providing food and clothes is evidence of your faith. Its not that you have to try to love others after you profess your faith in Christ. Its really that your journey from unbelieving to believing, your coming to faith in Christ will make you love by accident. You'll just love, and it'll be evident

That’s rights. Works alone can’t save us and faith alone is empty. I like looking John 15 where the branches that abide in the vine produce fruit. James is not to us. Read the first verse. To the twelve tribes of Israel scattered abroad. Revelation 7. They will have to keep from taking the mark of the beast and persevere in the faith to be saved. It is not to us. We are saved by faith alone in Christ alone. Romans 11:6 it is all grace, not works. We can not take scripture out of context and add it to the church. We are in the dispensation of grace, the church age. We are not the old testament saints, or the tribulation saints. We are church, the body of Christ. Those saved by grace without works. False teachers who do not have the Holy Spirit in them can not discern scripture. The bible never contradicts it self. We are saved the minute we trust Jesus as our savior plus nothing. Ephesians 1:13 In whom ye also trusted, after ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also AFTER ye believed, ye were sealed by that Holy Spirit of promise. Ephesians 4:30 And grieve not the Spirit of God in whom ye are sealed unto the day of redemption Born again. Born of God when we believe. Given eternal life. John 3:18 we can not longer be condemned. First John 5:13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God, that ye may KNOW YE HAVE ETERNAL LIFE.

I love your perspective! I am actually in the process of converting to catholicism. I was asking God this same question earlier and came across these verses. We are obviously saved by grace due to the fact that all our works are rags compared to God. But it definitely still matters that we produce good fruit in cooperation with Grace and faith. References: Matthew 7: 16. By their fruits ye shall know them. 21: Not everyone that saith unto me, lord, lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven, but he that doeth the will of my father which is in heaven. 22: Many will say to me in that day, lord, lord, have we not prophesied in they name? and in they name have cast out devils? and in they name done many wonderful works? 23: And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you, depart from me, ye that work iniquity. James 2: 17--Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. 21: Was not Abraham our father justified by works? 22: Seest thou how faith wrough with his works, and by works was faith made perfect? 24: Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith onl. 26: For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

Small wonder Martin Luther (with his "sola fide" doctrine) considered James an "epistle of straw." He didn't "get" the fact that faith alone - without obedience - was useless and dead. Nothing changes. Abraham would never have received the promised blessings without obedience. He chose obedience through faith. _Through_ faith he saw that he had a real choice to make, and he chose to obey: "By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went" (Hebrews 11:8). By or through faith he REALIZED he had a real choice to make, AND he chose to obey. His obedience was his "works." Abraham did not receive the promised blessings just because he thought God's promises were real. In Genesis 26 verse 5 the Lord explained to Abraham's son Isaac that Abraham received the promised blessings because of his obedience. Here it is in Genesis 26:5: "Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws" (Genesis 26:5). Faith without commitment, without action, is useless. Nothing changes. If Abraham had stayed home, his faith would have been dead. Abraham acted on his faith; his works, his obedience brought *_life_* and perfection or COMPLETION to his faith, making him a *_believer._* James wrote about Abraham: "Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect? And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God. Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and NOT by faith only" (James 2:22-24). Faith alone is incomplete without the "works" of obedience. Real believing is: taking action according to your faith. Abraham was not justified by "faith only." The idea that faith alone - just thinking that this or that is true - will justify/save you is the great heresy of the reformation. (Please don't assume I'm a Catholic for saying that. I'm not Catholic and never have been.) It is helpful to understand that "works" has different meanings in different contexts. Paul correctly stated that the "works of the law" such as circumcision do not and can not justify/redeem/save us. Neither can "good works" or good deeds done out of love for neighbor (eg, Ephesians 2:8-10, James 2:14-17). Abraham's simple obedience to God was a third type of works, and it was for that that righteousness was imputed to him - not just for his faith. Paul wrote that we are saved by grace _through_ faith (re: Ephesians 2:8). He did not say that we're saved just because we have faith. James shows that through faith we can come to choose obedience, and he cited Abraham as an example. Abraham's obedience, through faith, was his "works"; his obedience "perfected," or made complete, his faith: "Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect? And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God. Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only" (James 2:22-24). Who receives the holy spirit? It is those that "obey him": "And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him" (Acts 5:32). Apparently "faith alone" is not enough! Jesus is the "the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him" (Hebrews 5:9). There is nothing in that verse about being saved by faith alone.

Yes we are, for rewards in heaven. But we are saved without works or we could give the glory to us. Salvation is a free gift from God. Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the GIFT of God is eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Lord. We are saved the minute we believe the gospel. If we add one thing we have to do other than believe, then it is by works and no one can be saved by works. Only by grace. The Thief on the cross. Faith alone. If you add works before salvation , at salvation, or after salvation, It makes no difference. Romans 11:6 if you add one work, it is no longer grace. Those who preach a false gospel of works salvation are accursed. Galatians 1:7-9. It is saying what Jesus did is not sufficient, and we have to do something to save ourselves. Matthew 7:21-23 those that add works to grace are preaching a false gospel and those who believe it are told, depart from me I never knew you. Because they never did the will of His Father. John 6:40. They trusted in what they did instead of what Jesus did for us. They were not saved.

The thing is, lots of people do good works, But that does not save anybody. People say you can tell a believer by how they live and what they do. No, you can not. A born again believer may be living in awful sin, First Corinthians 5:5, while a false professor may be living a very moral life. A born again believer, (Ephesians 1:13) may get out of the will of God, but never our relationship to Him. The born again believer in First Corinthians was sleeping with his fathers wife. He was about to lose his life, and his rewards in heaven, but he was still saved. IT is our soul/spirit that is born again and saved, not our flesh and our old nature. It is still very much with us. First John 1:8 IF we say we have no sin, we deceive our selves and the truth is not in us. We are all sinners to a degree and if Jesus had not died for us, no one would be saved.

G cabildo , what does it require to be forgiven from sin ? Remember , the wages of sin is death , so something must die , blood has to be shed : The blood of Jesus Christ save you through faith ( Ephesians 2:8 ) , and how do you have faith ? Answer , Romans 10:17 , " So then faith cometh by hearing , and hearing by the word of God " . You must start hearing and obeying the word of God before the blood of the mediator ( Jesus Christ ) can cover or clean you ( 1st John 1:5-7 ) with his grace ( blood -free gift ) . Disobeying the laws of God is what put you in sin ( 1st John 3:4 , " Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law : for sin is the transgression of the law " ) ; but it requires a sin sacrifice to cover or clean you , to get you from under the violation of the law of God . When James 2:10 said , " For whosoever shall keep the whole law , and yet offend in one point , he is guilty of all " ; He was not talking about the laws of God ; because if you keep all of the whole law of God , you will not be guilty of nothing ; you are walking in righteousness . The whole law that James is talking about , is the law through the mediator at Mount Sinai ( Moses ) ; which is called the law of Moses , law of animal sacrifice , law of works , circumcision of flesh for sin , schoolmaster , law of sin and death ; which could not get your sins forgiven of the heart/mind/spirit/conscience ; but kept God from killing your flesh/body , if you do all that is required going through this sin sacrifice law : If you fail to complete all that is required , and not in the timely manner in which it is required , you are guilty of all . Shalom !

But if they do not see works they dont justify that person as a true Christian. Romans and Galatians are talking about justification between you individually and God - it is by faith alone lest any man should boast. Romans 11:6 IT is all grace, not works, if it was by works, then it is no more grace, and if by grace it is no more works. You can not add law/works to grace. If you add one work, then it is no longer grace but all works. Romans 3:28 Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith, apart from the deeds of the law. Romans 4:5 If our works counted toward our salvation we would have something to boast in. Romans 4:2 If Abraham were justified by works, he would have something to glory in, but not before God. We can justify our selves by good works, before men, but not before God. We can only be justified by faith without works. We have nothing to boast in because Jesus paid it all and we paid 0. IT is free. Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, and we all sin, but the GIFT of God is eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Lord. If we had to do something to be saved, then we would have something to boast in, and we would get the glory for saving ourselves. No, all we can do is believe to be saved. After we are saved we should do good works for reward in heaven, but never for salvation. Matthew 7:21--23 Those that trust in their works are not saved because they did not do the will of HIs Father. John 6:40 And this is the will of Him who sent me, that all that seeth the Son, and believeth on Him, may have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.

Wrong. By God's grace we do good works and that is how we are saved. A person without good works cannot be saved, no matter how much faith he has or how strong that faith is. See Luke 4:34. Salvation is a process, not a one-time emotional event one has in a tent revival.

"WE LOVE BECAUSE HE FIRST LOVED US." Our only part in salvation is to create the only thing that God cannot create, a grateful heart. For then comes the gifts of the Spirit, such as the good works of faithfulness, loyalty, trust and obedience to moral law. For thinking your saved by faith or chosen by grace, surely nothing could inflate ingrate-pride more then that.

“how can a person be right with God?” “The stunning Christian answer is: sola fide-faith alone. But be sure you hear this carefully and precisely: He says right with God by faith alone, not attain heaven by faith alone. There are other conditions for attaining heaven, but no others for entering a right relationship to God. In fact, one must already be in a right relationship with God by faith alone in order to meet the other conditions. “We are justified by faith alone, but not by faith that is alone.” Faith that is alone is not faith in union with Christ. Union with Christ makes his perfection and power ours through faith. And in union with Christ, faith is living and active with Christ’s power.” -John Piper. So... rather than confess that it is belief PERIOD that is required and then we are saved by Jesus PERIOD, John Piper looks at the works to prove whether you were indeed saved at all. He actually makes a weird distinction between being right with God and attaining heaven. What a truly troubling and misleading view. Faith does not put you in a right relationship so that you can perform the works that ultimately save you. I don’t call many things HogWash but this is one of them. Faith Alone. Listen to how many times a Calvinist will say “Faith Alone.. But” or “Salvation by Grace.. But” But but but. The butt that comes after grace is the smelliest but.

Salvation is BY Grace THROUGH faith, "Unmirited favor" of God. Jude 24 CHRIST WILL PRESENT ME FAULTLESS BECAUSE OF GOD'S IMPUTED RIGHTEOUSNESS, (that is Christ himself) TO ME. It's not me who will present myself as faultless with my "evidence of faith". Because of God's imputed righteousness, God will see Jesus in me,His own righteousness, His son whom i placed all my hope of salvation. CALVINISM IS SATAN'S DOCTRINE a goodworks salvationist

@Julian Clarke I would like to have this conversation with you. But I ask that we stick to one book. Would Romans suffice? We could do Romans, John, Galatians, or Hebrews. Those are the ones I have studied the most, in that order. I ask we stick to one book because I'm going to make the bold statement that you're taking these verses out of context.
@JosephLachh
@JosephLachh 2 года назад
@Julian Clarke I want to ask some clarifying questions first: What do you mean when you say "we have to keep God's law?" For Examples: Do you believe we must be baptized to be saved? Do you believe we must not commit any mortal sins? To what extent do I have to do works? What if I fail? What order does salvation, faith, and works fall into? i.e. Which one comes first, resulting in the others?
@JosephLachh
@JosephLachh 2 года назад
@Julian Clarke I was just looking for a quick rundown of what you believe. You say works+faith salvation, and it sounds like you need to keep the sabbath and be baptized as well. Also, I have no intention to be rude, but please do not bold everything. It looks like you're yelling. Here's my perspective for faith alone: The basis for my beliefs starts with Jesus’s statements. Jesus states eternal life is accomplished by believing in him (John 1:12, John 1:29, John 3:15-16, 3:18, 3:36, 4:10-14, 5:24, 5:38, 5:40, 6:29, 6:40, 6:47, 7:37-39, 8:24). I believe Jesus forgives me of my sins John 8:34-36. I believe in him. Therefore, so far it seems clear to me that I am saved. John 1:33 John baptized using water. Jesus baptizes using the Holy Spirit John 7:37-39 says that we will flow rivers of water, which is the Holy Spirit. John 4:10 Jesus is the one who gives living water. (The Holy Spirit) By believing in Jesus, I am baptized with the holy spirit. (Note how the passage says Jesus baptizes "with" the holy spirit) Because of this, I am in Christ and there is no condemnation (Romans 8). The Holy Spirit is the seal of my Salvation (2 Corinthians 1:22; 5:5; Ephesians 1:13-14; 4:30) And the Holy Spirit testifies with my spirit that I am a Child of God (Rom 8:16). On the contrary, you quote the old testament's works that we must do. Here is what Romans says about that: Rom 1:18. The wrath of God is coming to all who do unrighteousness. Romans 2: "Therefore you have no excuse, Everyone of you who passes judgment, for in that which you judge another, you condemn yourself; for you who judge practice the same things." Romans 2:17-24 shows that even those who think they are following the law of God are condemned. Paul makes this extremely clear, in Romans 3:9-19, that everyone is under the wrath of God. “Who can be saved then?” is a question that I would ask. It appears that I have no way of saving myself and neither do you, for we have sinned and fallen short of God's glory! (Rom 3:23). And the penalty for sin is death (Rom 6:23) Romans 3:20-28. We are justified by God by faith, apart from works of the law (v28). For it is written: "Cursed is everyone who does not continue to do everything written in the Book of the Law." But, "The righteous shall live by faith." Edit: I forgot you use only the KJV. Feel free to read it in your translation.

@Julian Clarke You had no words regarding the verses I referenced. I hope you are reading the scriptures that I use to answer to you. JC- "Romans 3:27 27) Where is boasting then? It is excluded. BY WHAT LAW?*? *OF WORKS? Nay: But by the law of Faith. We Are NOT Saved by the LAW, BUT Do we Still Have to KEEP THEM ?" JL- Exactly, we are not saved by the law. You got it. You said it right there. JC-Matthew 7:21 KJV Not EVERY ONE that SAITH unto me, LORD, LORD, Shall Enter into the KINGDOM OF HEAVEN;BUT he That DOETH THE WILL of My Father which is in Heaven. JL-John 6:29 “Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.” For Jesus tells us how to be saved: by believing. John 1:12, John 1:29, John 3:15-16, 3:18, 3:36, 4:10-14, 5:24, 5:38, 5:40, 6:29, 6:40, 6:47, 7:37-39, 8:24 JC- James 2:17 17) EVEN SO FAITH , IF IT HATH NOT WORKS , IS DEAD , Being ALONE . Hebrews 3:18-19 "And to whom did He swear that they would not enter His rest, but to those who were disobedient? And so we see that they were not able to enter because of unbelief." Right there: Unbelief..lack of faith. For James 2:18 says I will show you my faith by my works. For that's what works do..they show faith to be genuine. So you see that works do not save us, but evidence true faith. Hebrews 3:6 "but Christ was faithful as a Son over His house-whose house we are, if we hold firmly to our confidence and the boast of our hope." Therefore, I am only excluded from Christ's house if I fall into unbelief. I believe in the name of Jesus for the salvation of my sins. Romans 9:30-33 KJV: "What shall we say then? That the Gentiles, which followed not after righteousness, have attained to righteousness, even the righteousness which is of faith. But Israel, which followed after the law of righteousness, hath not attained to the law of righteousness. Wherefore? Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were by the works of the law. For they stumbled at that stumbling stone; As it is written, Behold, I lay in Sion a stumbling stone and rock of offense: and whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed." If you try to accomplish the law for your salvation you will not attain to it. It is written that Jesus is the stumbling stone because so many try to work for heaven. Matt 7:21-23 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter. Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; leave Me, you who practice lawlessness.’ You may have a zeal for doing the works of God, but by thinking they save you you are excluded from Christ: Gal 5:4 KJV "Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace." Does not paul define Grace? Romans 11:6 KJV “And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then it is no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.” Galatians 3 KJV This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh? I want to clarify that believers by faith do work. But this work doesn't save us. By no means am I the man in Jude verse 4. I hope to hear what you have to say about these scriptures...instead of quoting others instead. For the word of God doesn't contradict. So how can I quote scripture that says clearly faith alone and you quote works? But it is simply because I explained it above using the scriptures.

@Julian Clarke I wanted to have this conversation as an exchange of ideas, to both understand each other's perspective and to give pushback on those ideas using the scriptures. Ultimately ending up with a greater understanding of each other's beliefs and potentially even our own. And, hopefully having some things to consider because of what we've learned along the way. Is this a conversation you're interested in having? It sounded like it was, but it looks like it has fallen apart very quickly, partially maybe even being my own fault.

Salvation is a Gift..... Fact You can`t add works to a Gift or it is not a Gift...Fact Your part is to receive the Gift of salvation apart from any works. DoN`T stuff it up and start adding works ever! Eph 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: NOT OF YOUR SELF! uNFAIR...UNREASONABLE......yes .....but really....did you actually think your works could add anything to Gods ...... free.....Gift.....of Salvation...

You should know that modern Christianity is in total disagreement with first century Christianity. Modern teachings that your salvation is all about grace and feelings and works play no part in it is actually driving people away from the essential things they need for salvation. It was prophesied there would be many false teachers in the last days deceiving the people, and you can see that being played out today, when "christian" teachers are deceiving the masses into believing works don't matter. You need to ask yourself, who is right and who is wrong. The people that knew Jesus personally, or the ones today that are two thousand years removed from Jesus. If there is any logic or rationality at all in you, it shouldn't be a hard choice to make. This is how First century Christians taught. First you repent of your sins. Second, you purify your minds, you work to purge your minds of your sinful nature through fasting and prayer. Next, you are baptized by immersion in water. As your body was previously the habitation of Demons, the act of baptism washes your body clean so you will be fit to receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Then, the priest lays his hands on your head for the reception of the Holy Ghost. Then you are baptized with fire. You feel unspeakable joy, and your mind is enlightened towards understanding things in ways you never imagined before. The early Christians taught that unless you are baptized and receive the gift of the Holy Ghost, you cannot be saved in heaven regardless of how many good works you have done. This is the grace part of your salvation, that so many modern Christians are confused about. Without the saving grace of the Holy Ghost, you must of necessity when you die, go to a spirit prison or to hell, where you are punished for your sins as you await judgment day. On judgment day, your very soul is put into peril as you are judged for your works, and you hope the good you did outweighed the bad, so you are not cast out into outer darkness. They taught that it is far better to receive the Holy Ghost and be saved in this life so you are not put into such peril. On the other hand, if you through repentance of your sins and baptism, you received the gift of the Holy Ghost, then it becomes your duty to be a soldier for Christ and do all the good works you can in your life. On judgment day you will be rewarded with much or little according to your works. Like Paul said, we must "work" out our salvation with fear and trembling. Philippians 2: 12. From this point on you cannot ever do anything that would deny the Holy Ghost, lest you risk a condemnation greater than if you never accept Christ in the first place. "12 And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be. 13 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last. 14 Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city. 15 For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie. 16 I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches." Revelation 22

You can't add works to a gift? What if someone gifts you a lawnmower? Or cleaning supplies? Wouldn't the gift be empty, and even desecrated, if it wasn't put into action and used?

Fair point. Hmmm. So God supplies the lawnmower. But does God provide YOU with the ability to mow, or is He ALSO the one who provides the lawnmower WITH Himself to mow for you?
@tstjohn777
@tstjohn777 5 лет назад
What you apparently don't understand is. Yes, we are saved by God's mercy and favor. As to the gift idea. It would be like me gifting you a car and you never using it. The mercy and favor of God regenerates by the Spirit of God. But it doesn't end there. We get a New Life, that is how we are regenerated. That news life produces the characteristics of that life. Paul said I have been crucified with Christ. It is no more I who lives but Christ who lives in me. The life I now live in the flesh I live by faith. James point, faith without works is dead. I Faith that what Christ commands is produced in me. That's why Christ said if you love Me you will obey me. So salvation is not being delivered from hell and the wrath of God but is a new power of life to overcome sin. Being delivered from the wrath of God and going to Heave is a by-product. The death and blood of Christ made that possible. 1John. He who says, “I know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. No action in character, no life. No life no Christ, no Christ no Heaven.
