Customs and police authorities are doing too little to prevent sanctioned semiconductors from ending up in Russian rockets that are used to attack Ukraine. That’s according to Erlend Björvedt, one of Norway’s most experienced advisors in country risk and political risk mitigation. We ask him how this is happening.

They buy the russian oil and mix it with oil from another supplier to make the oil only 49% russian. I would assume they are doing the same with natural gas/liquid natural gas but I do not know how they are shipped. It is not like the sanctions are trying to completely shut off the oil and gas coming from russia either. The focus here is to cut off the money they get from selling the oil and gas but leave enough of the tap on so they add their supply into the global markets to keep things somewhat cheap and moving. I could be reading the situation wrong but that is how I see this playing out currently.

@dinkaboutit4228 10 месяцев назад
The functions that the chips are being used to perform in these weapons are not technically complex. You want a microchip because its the most compact solution, not because you're building iRocket 13's with geolocation and 3-D ground mapping. People really underestimate the number and variety of chips that could be used to achieve identical results. The idea that you're going to solve this by tracking the supply chain is naïve.
@lv3609
@lv3609 10 месяцев назад
@plazthalt He is correct though. Nobody can seriously think Infineon producing a “one-chip total solution for a missile” !!! There are far other chip producers who are way more important in any device, like microprocessors (Arm, Intel,…), memory (Japan, South Korea), communication.
