How Bad are the $30 eBay subs? | AutoTek ATK12D Review! 

Is it wrong that my main takeaway from this vid is , " $30 Autotek subs have a motor size similar to $100 JL's ?😂

for an entry level brand I've had very good luck with maxxsonic i feel its decent product for the price

I remember when Autotek was a mainstream brand, a friend has one of their first 4 channel amps, treated it like a Punch 45 (massively low ohms) and it took it all like a champ. But now they are like Sparkomatic back in the day, how the mighty have fallen

Parker, here are some budget subs that I think would make a good review, especially for low power systems. GRS 12SW-4HE GRS 10SW-4HE GRS 8SW-4HE The specs are pretty good for the price point.

These budget vids are cool...as long as we NEVER HATE on the budget folks/gear. Everyone has to start somewhere. And someone who is maybe a new father...or just got their first apartment...who is still trying to get loud, should get our support. I actually have some gear i will GIVE to someone who is struggling with bills and still trying to bang. I know i have a 10" Kicker powered subwoofer, a really nice Pioneer 800 watt monoblock amp...the expensive limited edition one, an Alpine mono amp, a Kicker mono amp and a bunch of other nice shit. Get at me in these comments and maybe we work something out. I am VERY busy...so give me time to reply.

Cheap subs can actually go a long way in a good enclosure. Years back I met a guy who had two of the entry level Kicker 12s in a sealed box and had them bridged on a 2 channel @ 1 ohm. He wasn't happy with the output and the amp obviously would go into protect a lot. I made him a 4th order for the subs and rewired the subs to 4 ohm. No more amplifier issues and he couldn't believe the difference in output; it was night and day.

I'm surprised both subs made it through the video, I was expecting some magic smoke! 🤣

Those small low powered subs are designed to be in sealed enclosures to get the best sound out of them. You should add a sealed box as one of your test when your trying out different subs to see the SQ of each sub you test.

Subs are fine… Me: Plays a track down to 18Hz. Subs: Melted in 10 seconds. 😅

Ive had a 50 $ set up i found at a pawn shop on e sony explodes the old school . And and explode anp with a sealed enclosure. I was super young didnt care about watts just saw subs an amp in a sealed box for 50$ grabbed em. I told my self well if they dont sound great ill switch then out. I had my dad install em for me. Idk what he did but they hit so freaking hard! I had a 91 lunina and my truck would shake so much. I had a guy cime up to me once and said they sound so much better then his thousand dollar set up. He was so mad

Can you show us how to calculate a box for a 15? or how to tune it? It’s things like that I think people need help with I sure do. Or what budget battery will work for a 2000 watt amp just throwing some ideals ur way.

As of this writing I'm only halfway through video but for 28ish for a 12. So far very impressed with quality. You can't even get a cabinet speaker for that and like you I'm very impressed with the specs sheet they provide. Even if it detonates chances are if this is your budget you don't have much budget for your amp, because when you're young speakers come first...everything else secondary, so you won't be hooking a SALT up to it so yeah 👍 👍

Would be fun if you get your hands on a Gas audio max S1/S2 subs. Really good subs, they are popular in sweeden and norway.

Maybe test the GRS 12SW-4 from parts express.... $35 sub (used to be $25) and they perform very well. Magnet is bigger than these subs.

It's one of those products that's not bad for the price. If you aren't trying to max out volume... it's OK.

Two true to rating 1600w subs would sound very nice in that box with a 3000w quality amp

I really wish RU-vid reviewers would test for and post the T/S parameters for these cheaper subs - the details the manufacturers DO NOT provide. When shopping for budget subs, I would rather spend the extra $30-$50 at Parts-Express just because even when shopping on budgets - I prioritize the TS parameters over price since THAT dictates the box construction and what I can actually expect out of a driver. Similar to how Big D dynos amps over at Wiliston Audio. We need people to do the same for Speakers and T/S params.

Some cheap stuff can sound pretty good if you keep the expectations reasonable. The biggest issue is how long will they last? Maxxonics also owns MB Quart now and a few of those brand products are actually pretty decent...for the price. But not all of them. We're all looking for a bargain. But in the long run, just like a short cut doesn't always get you there quicker, buying cheap electronics doesn't always save you money either!

Interesting video subject that might get some views: I'm running a small skar 350 mono amp. Sounds great with the sdr 8 it came with but I'm sure a lot of people who just run a smaller amp wonder if a DDX for example would sound better even on that low of power compared to a lower power designed speaker. Can't find many videos on low power amps comparing low end series with higher end without changing the power. Is the nicer speaker going to hit harder and sound better even though it's way out of the optimal power range compared to the cheaper built lower end speaker matching the power range? I think SDR and DDX would be good comparison on a low power amp. I'm sure you have thoughts. I've tried that small amp on an SVR 10" and it did sound better. Of course moving more air but I wonder where the low power is going to suffer? You kind of usually want to match power ratings with the amp but if you can get a ddx10 for $140 makes sense to try it.

One really needs to measure the Thiele Small parameters to see what these speakers are best suited for. Often times woofers with dinky magnets have a high qts value(above .7) and will often do well in large boxes or open baffle applications. De-rate power handling accordingly to not exceed mechanical xmax.

I had a pair of power blasters from discount auto parts, they were 30 bucks, and gave me bass for years. I ended up putting them away still working. Lasted longer than several solobarics...

These same sub designs were probably considered top of the line back in the day😂

Taramps Smart amps put out a micro burst of power that is almost instantly tamed down to a normal level but will show on a dyno as crazy power even though it last like less than 1/20th of a second or something like that.

I've been looking for 2 Free-Air 10" subs (budget friendly ofc) for the back dashboard of a 2000 Honda Accord sedan.

At $30 I think I'd get a broken home theatre sub from ebay and use the driver from that (the electronics are nearly always what fails). Might not go as loud but the quality will be there at least.

you should try TFR subs and/or amps they are the skar audio of the EU but i think they are better than skar so i think it would be interesting to see a test or a faceoff between the 2 brands

I never heard a sub that didn't sound, at least, decent as long as it was in a good box. Reminds me of the Skar SVL the way it takes big power in the coil but has no motor force to convert it into sound.

Bought one of these, blew at 200rms, bought another and it burned the VC in the same amount of time but with 150rms.

I have 2 of those in my house right now, I don't have a lot of money so they made sense at the time, on a 1000 watt audiozerone amp I bought for $68. Am Enjoying them so far, they can't handle the amp at full power but I don't need full power yet. Planning on upgrading later about end of year

I plan on getting new door speakers also, there are door speakers in the front and back seat of my car. I have a box with 2 subs in it. So how many channels do I need my amp to have? Is there a possibility that there is a problem with the testing procedure? You used a prefab box, a "ported" prefab box, to test the subs? Both the box and the port were probably not correct for the driver. Makes quite a bit of difference!......
