I was born in 94 and so I grew up with late 90s/early 2000s barbie and it was the absolute best time for barbie. Barbie is such a core memory for me and was such a big part of my life as a girl, I'll never forget the endless hours playing and the excitement when opening a new barbie or barbie accessory for birthdays and Christmas.
I like the comparison to the fashion industry. Nowadays I always feel like barbie is a step or two behind what’s going on in fashion. In the 60’s designers for Barbie got their ideas from runway shows. Nowadays it seems like they are just recycling what they see what’s in stores now. I wonder how it would be if the barbie designers payed more attention to runways shows now. I think Barbie Extra comes close.
Yes, I also believe the fast turnaround of doll product launches have definitely been influenced by the fashion industry, too. It's almost like Zara, we get a new cycle of dolls on toy shelves every week 🙈
Appreciate your work on the history and evolution of Barbie also the people behind the scenes at Mattel. So fascinating what goes on I'm sure there is drama and intrigue with billions of dollars in sales at stake, sometimes I find myself wondering what were they thinking with some of the designs and decisions.
very interesting video, i think mattels problem is they put out too many dolls, in the 60s one doll came out at xmas so after waiting a year for them they all sold not like now were there are so many leftover dolls
I also prefer the Business model of having very few doll lines per year and putting more emphasis on the fashion packs instead. Thank you for watching ☺️
what annoyes me now is mattel could have utlized all of the fast trends that happend into sepreate doll lines insted of working on there fashionista line that has at this point already been through and through expcially since they keep recycling the same looks and such and could have utlized that money into aesthetic doll lines with the already 100s of fashionistas they have at there disposile but nope insted we got barbie extra 😬
