Great video! I know you try to cover all types of hunting situations. A lot of us hunt small pieces of land located in very residential areas. 10-20 acre pieces with homes, farms within sight of most areas There is no way the deer don’t hear,smell or see humans all year Then don’t forget about pets, we always get dogs running around I bet half of you4 viewers hunt this type of situation. Not big open farms or woods

Hi Steve...those are awesome areas...very easy to hunt!! I know folks who have made hunting careers hunting areas like that. Don't have to worry about much...just know where the deer are bedded in the morning. Always somewhere to approach from, blow your scent into and frankly not worry about your scent or sound as much.

Yep that’s how I hunt it. You can get away with a lot of mistakes. Stick with best food, cover and water. Open trails for deer to move easy. In like flint

Also. Do sit with wind in mind. Have multiples of stands ,blinds. We don’t have monster bucks. Last year we had an eight ,seven a odd deer four on one side then big spike with two on other. A nice six, another a bit smaller then bunch of 4 and less. Best hunting during our rut. Six weeks from start of oct to middle of Nov. then daytime movement slowed down

Steve I would like to know if you are right about half of Jeff’s viewers hunting more urban hunting areas. I’d bet it’s much less. IMO Jeff’s info is much more focused on the rural area hunter. I can hunt in my back yard but really don’t till I see a really nice buck in peak rut. I just would rather hunt where I don’t hear kids and lawn mowers. The urban deer vs rural deer are almost a different species. The bucs I do see that I would shoot won’t even let me open my door without running. The does I can walk to within 20 yards. The 1.5 year olds are somewhere in between. And yes those does and young bucks get used to us. But get in a tree and let them see you. Or walk back into the woods 40 yards and they completely change and get out of dodge

great information . we own a farm in north georgia and there is almost no access without spooking deer . i got permission from the neighbors on rough terrain where i don't think deer will be to walk in and it has really paid off !! thanks for all you do !!

Thanks Nelson and man that is awesome! Sometimes great access is pretty tough! One thing that can always be used to create better access is food. Either eliminating food, adding food...reducing food, screening food. Food can be used to add deer where you need them to be to access somewhere else, or get rid of deer by removing deer you don't want them to be.

Hey Jeff. Appreciate the video and tips! Definitely going to implement it this year. Got a question abiut cover of darkness- dont deer see really well in the dark too though? Or is it just because they arent there when it is dark?
@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751
@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 5 месяцев назад
Hi Randy, thank you! If you have good food locations and defined bedding areas, you can more easily determine where deer are not during daylight and darkness. Some of our morning stands deer rarely get to before an hour after daylight, because they are that far away from food. Same with afternoon food source stands...you can safely get into those stands because it is still a couple of hours before you should see deer.

Hey Jeff! Got a preferred bedding area question. I have a unique property in the driftless area of Wisconsin that has a road splitting it. One side is marsh grass and corn and the other side is thick hardwood of ridges and valleys with a switchgrass top. Which do you think deer would most likely prefer.
@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751
@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 5 месяцев назад
Boy that's a tough one Thomas without seeing it, but I like the diversity of the hillside as long as you can get a food plot up there! The corn doesn't offer much for a season long food source ..more of a nighttime hangout

Hey jeff great video. What are your thoughts on our body language say we get caught in a position where a deer is watching you? Ive noticed a few times if i pay them no mind i can move on passed

Hi Jimbo, good point...head down eyes away and keep moving. Same in a stand...head down and avoid eye to eye contact.

Buddy put a food plot on his property. He has 1/4acre, including large house. He put a food plot in his front yard. The deer hang out with you in the yard 10ft away. Hes one of a lucky few that owns the X on the map, and nothing extra. He's also the first house outside village limits. Those deer dont care.
@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751
@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 5 месяцев назад
What's his track record on shooting the oldest bucks in the neighborhood?
@buck19
@buck19 5 месяцев назад
@@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 he's on a pinch with a dam, swamp, on the edge of town, bordering state land at the foot of a mountain. He has the X for main herd travel. He created a reason for them to stop along the trail. He planted 3-sister corn rows for a privacy fence. Has the sugar beats, etc... his food plot may be 500sqf, started it a couple years ago, and got his first buck on it last year. A 160lb 2-3 year old. He just started hunting 2 years ago. We live far from Ag country, in the ADK, so any sort of deer retention is a feat in its own.

Any tips for finding leases ? Ive been trying for several years and landowners just don’t wanna lease. They’ll give permission but won’t lease. Problem is others hunting property blow the property every year. I’ve got 9 food plots over 500 acres and others will ride fourwheelers right through plot in October at 6 pm “looking for deer”. 😡list goes on. It’s down right frustrating.
@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751

Hi Mike...not saying you are not, but offering to lease at a price a lease is going for is critical. For example around here you will pay $40-$50 an acre+. It's not uncommon for 100 acres (that's worth $700-800,000), to lease for $4000-5000+ per year. Many folks don't know what their land is worth to lease so when you offer them the going rate...it can turn a lot of "no's" to YES. Expect to pay more per acre for smaller parcels. I have a personal connection to 40s around here going for $60 an acre...which is still a small fraction of the cost of owning the land.

@@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 Thank you for the response! Been watching for almost 5 years trying to apply your strategies. I do have green light from owners to do what I want. Just have others who hunt that won’t work with me and just do as they please. I’ll keep at it, my experience that landowners don’t want give any actual contracted rights over their land regardless how much I offer.

@@mikepriddy9985Not sure if this helps, but one thing I've always made as a rule since I was a teenager and had zero money, was that anywhere I hunt I either have total control or I don't hunt there. I am happy to hunt poor public land where no one hunts over great private land I have to share with hunters who don't follow the plan. That's a pretty black and white approach for me that has worked for close to 40 years and it has really helped me be successful no matter if on public or private land. It's also helped me enjoy my hunt a lot more 👍😊 I will never share a hunt with folks who don't follow the plan. If that means I only hunt public land, I am good with that and I would personally let no individual get in the way of that no matter how close of a friend or family member they are.

Can you frost seed radishes
@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751
@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 5 месяцев назад
Kind of? They work well if taking out in about 10 weeks to improve the soil before planting in August. Also, frost will kill them. You really want to plan them in August. Not that you can't get them to grow early, but that they mature and will be rotting by fall
