Since I do intermittent fasting and keto/AIP combi, my bloodsugar is very good. Going low carb changed my life. I first started AIP and later adjusted my AIP to low carb.

That's awesome! Glad that IF works for you too - I still don't do so well with it unfortunately (it spikes my cortisol if I go over 15 hours), but for those that it works it can be such a great tool to manage both disease and blood sugars.

@@MicheleSpring for me going low carb did the trick. And doing bullet proof coffee in the morning and collageen drink to get in some "food" but not breaking the fast works great. At first when I only did AIP and smoothies in the mornings, It wasn't really working. The smoothies were to heavy for my, so I stopped those and started skipping breakfast again and felt much much better. And then discovered keto (thanks to Dr. Ekberg who does great video's on keto and IF ) and looked how to do an AIP keto version. And without going hungry because I do more healthy fats and less carbs, I also suddenly started loosing weight as an extra :-) Lost 13 kg since I started AIP in May. And almost all my autoimmune problems have gone. And apple cider vinegar... I love it.

After 1 month we can try to reintroduce bit by bit and see if our body reacts or not. I got ride of a lot of pain that way, no more pain in my joints ! And no more bloating, and far less belly problems. I was already gluten and lactose free for many years, but it turned out I can't eat potato, tomato etc. 2

So true I have been diagnosed with Hashimoto disease, I really believe this came from my high blood sugar levels (as my family suffers from diabetes and now a lot of them has issues with their thyroid) it’s about your genes 🧬 too, what your body really can handle 🥺 so sad because I am Mexican and I love my corn 🌽 but I had to quit on it as I love my health more 🤷🏻‍♀️ doing IPA protocol 😪

Oh man, that's got to be hard to be Mexican and have to give up corn. I've had to give it up because it triggers autoimmune flares for me but I'm not Mexican so while it's hard, I don't have to deal with it all that much. At least there are some decent alternatives these days!

haha! That SO sounds like a reaction that I'd have - hear all the info about why you shouldn't do something and then go do the opposite. Which I actually think is good - it means she saw it AND it had some sort of effect on her. We often do the things we shouldn't in rebelliousness to not wanting to change, but it's often the start to actual change happening as we get used to the idea. It's like the 3 year old in us just having a tantrum and then saying "ok, I'll do it."

Felt like I was being coached too. Very grateful for your efforts I'm on AIP and would love to know what allowed ingredients (you mentioned sweet potatoes) can give a blood sugar spike and in what quantity. Thanks again!
@MicheleSpring
@MicheleSpring 2 года назад
Will definitely explain that! But what I will say is that it's very individual and can also change depending on where you are in healing and metabolic health (like if you have any insulin resistance going on or other hormone resistance or imbalances, etc). So that's why it's important to understand whether you ARE affected by the carbs first - some people can eat 10 cups of sweet potatoes (don't know why you WOULD, lol, but just as an example) and be totally fine with no repercussions whatsoever, whereas some will have issues with just one cup. I'd say the more important thing for now is just to avoid eating simple carbs like dried fruit by itself as that can be a problem for many. Eat it with something with protein or fat to help slow down the sugar absorption. And don't eat desserts 3 times a day - but that's just common sense, right? haha. But most likely you're probably fine with eating nutrient-dense carbs like sweet potatoes in a balanced meal, so I wouldn't worry about that. (But do pay attention to it and see if you have any of those things I mention at the end after eating it!)

Definitely pay attention to how you feel after the rice then - but also know there may be a bit of a tradeoff with having some higher blood sugars and getting to a healthy weight. It's not ALL about blood sugar - there are so many factors that go into it, but definitely something to be aware of!

@MicheleSpring
@MicheleSpring 2 года назад
I can honestly say I've never heard of doing blood washing for immune diseases! But I'd have to wonder if it'd help long term - just knowing the mechanics behind autoimmunity like for example, many long-term antibodies in your body come from bone marrow - that's not something that would get "erased" if you wash your blood. So definitely not sure, sorry!

Love your videos!! Where did you buy the continuous glucose monitor? I often find I eat & will feel hungry 15 mins late
@MicheleSpring
@MicheleSpring 2 года назад
Yeah, that hunger 15 min later definitely can be a sign of blood sugar fluctuations (I mean, it can be other things too - like that leptin resistance and just maybe even what you ate - but I know for many that it's blood sugar). I will go into detail about the continuous glucose monitor in one of the next videos, but I get mine from a program called Levels (www.levelshealth.com/). I use a Freestyle Libre right now which I've heard can be gotten from some pharmacies without a prescription, but I love Levels' analysis and find the data I get from them super helpful (but like I said, I'll explain more in a few weeks)

If you have a balanced meal with protein, fat, and fiber, you don't get s big sounds in blood sugar from carbohydrates. Diabetes results from energy toxicity. People label high FAT foods like chips, dessert, ice cream, cookies, pizza, etc as "carbs” even though there’s just as much energy from fat if not more from fat. For example at 7:16 you label greasy French fries and a burger as a high carb meal… that’s a very high FAT meal!
@MicheleSpring
@MicheleSpring 2 года назад
true - it is a very high fat meal - but there are a TON of carbs in it as well that the body still needs to process. A burger + fries can be upwards of 100 g of carbs and then if you add the milkshake - that's 100g just by itself! Those carbs need to go somewhere. (For reference, we try to keep our carbs to around under 130 g a day or else Nathan's BG will be super high all day and all night, no matter how much insulin we give him). Fat will help slow down the absorption and you might not get the same immediate spike but a carb is a carb and eventually, your blood sugar is going to rise. And those fats often can cause the whole "high blood sugar for a long time" issue rather than just a spike. But unfortunately once you've got insulin resistance it doesn't matter how balanced your meal is either - you can get a spike from eating a cup of sweet potatoes and a chicken breast as a meal - not high fat and still a problem. Or rice, steamed broccoli, and piece of lean steak. And you can eat fats + protein without carbs (like in a low carb or keto situation) and have no issues with blood sugar. A muffin made with almond flour will not spike your blood sugar as much as one made with tapioca starch and cassava flour, for instance (I can't seem to do the latter without spiking my own blood sugar to heaven and back). I just use the burger and fries example because it's SO high in carbs and very common for people to eat. But I could have just as easily put rice or oatmeal or whatever in there.

I was just going to say AIP Keto, but someone beet me to it. (Yet haven't totally wrapped my head around it. Like what fats without dairy? And I need a relatively high calorie count cause I keep losing weight on AIP due to all the stresses on top of the restrictive diet.)
@MicheleSpring
@MicheleSpring 2 года назад
So definitely watch my next few videos. AIP Keto can be really helpful for some people but for others it might make things worse. And if you're already having stress, keto might be one of those things that can cause MORE stress and kind of defeat the whole purpose, right? Like if you're trying to prevent cortisol from being pumped out 24/7 from your blood sugar, getting stressed will be detrimental. And for me for example, keto makes me too keyed up to sleep, so it's not a great fit. However - I will say fats like olives, avocado, coconut, oils, lard, etc can easily make up for the fats in dairy.
@paintlady2268
@paintlady2268 2 года назад
@@MicheleSpring Oh, I'll be there to watch, for sure 😀 Looking forward to the cortisol/blood sugar connection. I'd started keto b4 being diagnosed. To loose 8 lbs but even more for the brain health and anti-inflamitory, feeling better lifestyle ideas. Thought the fast part would be so hard! It wasn't at all. Nothing saying that one has to go 16 hrs on the fast! It's simply not necessary to stretch the time and stress the body that much. Maybe if one is trying to lose a lot of weight, but not as a diet for health maintenance. And flax seed oil (I've read where flax and chia seeds, and therefore their omaga 3 oils, don't contain lectins). Hope that's true cause I really miss the healthy fats.
@MicheleSpring
@MicheleSpring 2 года назад
@@paintlady2268 Ah - so you're familiar with keto. Still the same though - if you find your stress levels too high from trying both AIP and Keto, maybe back off on one or the other elements of the diets (like either AIP or keto) for a bit and see if it helps. Both diets are great, but not if it's stressing you out too much to maintain! But rewatch the video for the cortisol/blood sugar connection - it's like at 7:09 ish in the video.
@paintlady2268
@paintlady2268 2 года назад
@@MicheleSpringWill rewatch. Oh, I'm not even trying Keto now. I'm just at the beginnings of stage 1 reintros of AIP. (I'm Brenda HM in your community) My doc has ran my fasting glucose twice in the last 4 months and A1C once.. I asked her to run a fasting insulin the first time around so I could do the HOMA-IR ratio (which I think is more telling/useful than the standard A1C). So far, so good. Yet I know it's subject to change at anytime. Funny thing is, for a person that's always had a sweet tooth, now that I'm on AIP I absolutily crave savory things! Gravies and butter and non-sweet potatoes. What little sweet cravings I have are sated with a wee bit of granola (from your recipe) topped with a few blueberries and a touch of coconut milk once in a while 😋
@MicheleSpring
@MicheleSpring 2 года назад
@@paintlady2268 Oh hi Brenda, lol! I always crack up when I find out who people are on different platforms. You sound like you're doing great with your blood sugar though, esp with the desire for sweets dissipating! So I don't think it's something you need to worry about, just something to keep in mind long term in case you DO wind up craving sweets or starchy things or whatever on a regular basis.

@MicheleSpring
@MicheleSpring 2 года назад
Eh, I'm not a doctor so definitely can't definitively say, but it just sounds like your thyroid is producing too much hormone. This isn't a life or death situation - but I can certainly see WHY you'd think that as too much thyroid hormone can make you feel very anxious and paranoid (one of the many symptoms of hypERthyroidism - producing too much hormone). It's fairly normal to swing back and forth between hyper and hypo- thyroidism when you're producing Hashimoto's antibodies, and 1300 is definitely indicative of you doing that. Your body is attacking your thyroid and therefore it's just unable to work correctly. There are many reasons for why this would be and it can get complicated, but I think you mentioned before that you're gluten and dairy free, which is good. That takes those out of the equation. But if you haven't yet tried the AIP diet I might do that - or at least try removing all grains, nightshades and eggs at the very least for a few weeks. That can at least help you decipher if it's a food that's causing your issues and give your body a chance to calm down a bit, reduce inflammation, and stop attacking itself. But hang in there - we ALL feel like we're dying at some point in this process (and sometimes multiple times), but as far as I know you should be ok. Just need to get everything dialed in.
