How BROKEN Is Using The Samurai Starting Gear ONLY?

not the best stats, just the best gear

Vagabond is right there with it for default gear. Better armor, a 100% physical block shield, longsword with square off which is better than unsheath for staggering, and a halberd as well. I've done playthroughs with both and the vagabond seems easier a lot of the time just because square off staggers a lot more frequently than unsheath and has a lower FP cost which makes up for the missing bleed.

Samurai definitely is the best if you are doing starter equipment only, but Wretch is unironically the best normally. Because you start at level 1 with 10 in every stat, this gives you 2 huge advantages: 1: If you reset your stats because you want to switch builds, you have an even 10 so you don't have to worry about wasting points in line dexterity if you're making a magic build (just an example) 2: Because you start at level 1, compared to classes who start at level 6 you can choose what you want to put those 6 levels into. This is easy because you have 6 nearly free levels, they are so cheap you'll have enough runes by the time you unlock Torrent. Lastly, it also has war cry, which is just a really damn good ash for melee builds. You deal good poise damage 2 handing the club and you are light rolling. Honestly, the only downsides are: No armor Club isn't as good as katana and bow (obviously) If you wanna use a dex build, samurai's the best but for anything else I think Wretch is by far the best choice.

IRL slashing blades are effective against skin and leather/cloth, but wood/bark is a lot tougher. Not on par with metal, but much harder than any animal hide. What trees are weak to is chopping, which is a different motion - slashing draws the blade along the cut, chopping drives a wedge directly inward. What Erdtree avatars should really take more damage from is axes.

Chopping has always been represented by the Standard physical damage type in Souls. Straight cutting oriented swords should really do Slash but eh.

well slashing isnt chopping, its slashing. if you took a knife and pressed the blade against… meat, and basically slid the edge of that blade along the meat youd be slashing, creating large open cuts on the surface. if you took a cleaver and just brought it down on the meat youd be chopping or cutting it, thats “standard” or “normal” damage in DS, just severing things by making straight deep cuts.

It has square off..... might be the best ash of war in the game for value. It does 40 posture damage and only costs 8 FP. Making it significantly better than unsheath for posture which only does 30, while also costing less FP.
