Rex and Weevil always struck me as players that were good in early era Yugioh back when 1200 point monsters were cards that were things to be loved.

Am I the only one who finds it weird that the artwork for "Giant Rex" shows a Spinosaurus?

the big thing about rex and weevil is they were manga character from the duelist kingdom, which means they're from an era where the game was more like a card game of a D&D battle, hence their cards all got translated to gen 1 normal monsters. In fact Rex and weevil are the "gen oners" of yugioh, "we used to be meta!" "your new cards ruined the game" etc

One of my favorite memes every was all the OG antagonists playing newer decks. Rex was playing dino Rabbi, weevil Insectors and Mako was dropping a Mermail Abyssmegalo. Kinda wondered what other characters would have upgraded to over the years.

I seem to recall Gilasaurus was frequently used in some of the early meta, the era of Goat and Parahath and stuff. Imagine if Great Moth actually had an effect that caused your opponent's monsters to lose ATK in real time. I'm aware there was a retrain that referenced that effect but it's not the same as "per second".

What about Red-Eyes Black Dragon? Rex was the original owner of that card before Joey won it off of him. Granted, Red-Eyes itself has never been super great, but it has some history in the TCG.

Funny thing is that Giant Rex was BUFFED from the anime. If I remember, it was basically just a 2000 Dino that couldn't attack if the opponent had no monsters. That's it. No extra effects. Lol. QUITE the buff when brought over to the TCG/OCG.

I would have loved to see a Rex vs Weevil rematch in the later seasons Or a proper tag duel, not counting the one vs Shroeder as that ended almost instantly.

I know it's filler but I love the scene where they 2v1 the European guy, summon their best monsters turn 1, and he completely wrecks them.

I like how Rex canonically lost to Mai and Espa. I imagine the poor guy would probably lose to Téa at this point.

It would have been cool to see Rex fuse Two headed king rex or Black Tyranno and Tyrant Dragon in the anime. Plus Underwold Chain was pretty cool.

This Video came out the SAME day I got the Dinosaur Card I’ve desperately been trying to get in Duel Links for my Rex Deck! Amazing Video! And I can safely say that it’s an accurate one too, because I DO indeed have a Giant Rex in my deck!

Funny enough both had very good skills in speedduels.

There is one Anime exclusive card i want from Rex's deck. Jurassic Heart. It's a trap that negates and destroys any trap that targets a Dinosaur type monster.

DNA Surgery/Parasite Paracide + Insect Barrier saw decent enough play in the early days before there were a lot of counters and outs. Downside to that combo though was things like Giant Trunade and Heavy Storm were also popular. How I miss the days when duels were a bit slower paced, just as intense, decks were more unique. We had certain combos but the whole deck was usually built around beaters like BEWD and BLS: EOTB etc.

This is the first time I realize the flavor of The Seal of Orichalcos's drawbacks (destroying special summoned monsters and stopping extra deck summons): it's how it gets rid of the Fusion monsters summoned with the three dragon spells and prevents them from being summoned. Very nice gameplay and story integration right there.

Might not be playable, but I still love Tyrant Dragon and Serpent Night Dragon and honestly wouldn't mind some new support for Serpent Night. It's a classic vanilla dragon and should be getting some love like Blue and Red-Eyes did.

@Dzeeff Gilasaurus was played as far back as Wind-Up format. It was used to summon Zenmaity.

DNA surgery and insect barrier, was my favorite combo on the gba games. Same with buster blades support

I really liked my old duel links combo to search gilasaur with sangan, so i could special it without activating its eff for my opponent ;). (Btw, rex used Red-eyes b dragon, wich is used for dragoon right now)

I want to add that Weevil and Rex were way more relevant in the Speed Duel meta and formed part of the 2 most broken decks in history. Weevil: Eradicating Aerosol was a Tier 1 strategy because a Skill (Hidden Parasite) turning all face up monsters into Insects and people using Aerosol as a generic monster removal. Perfectly Ultimate Great Moth was a Tier 1 deck ever since late 2019. This is because of Parasite Paranoid and a Skill version of Cocoon of Ultra Evolution. This whole combo broke the Speed Duel meta and Id argue that it created a powercreep requirement of Skills because of how strong this was. Any generic deck can just use Parasite to turn an opponent's monster into Insect, then use your Cocoon Skill and Special Summon 1 Moth from Deck with Skill immunity and then 1 Moth from hand. In a 4000 LPs game, all you need is to wipe their backrow, and you're set for a clean OTK. Bonus points for the fact that we don't have as many monster removals in our cardpool so you can still lose to their much better board. Any support we get for generic decks, helps this deck. Allure of Darkness? Play a Dark engine and play the Moth package. Serpent Night Dragon was the most broken deck before Moth. The Skill Nightmare Sonic Blast let you excavate 4; if 1 card is a monster, add ANY excavated card; if 2 are monsters, destroy any card with that Skilll; 3 or morr and you apply both effects. THEN, you can put them back in any order. You have access to Champion's Vigilance, Tribute Doll, Double Coston, Blue Dragon Summoner, Sphere Kuriboh (for protection), and Gentlemander (which created an unfair lock). This was in an era with no staples to reliably out big monsters. Only easy outs to SND was Aerosol but they generated so much advantage that they either have Vigilance or hage enough resources to summon another one. Two Headed King Rex and Crawling Dragon were part of an anti meta deck that went undefeated in one big tournament, all because they had access to Order to Charge to stop Serpent Night Dragon, and could side into Hidden Parasite+Aerosol to deal with it better. And since Warriors were a big part of the meta, they also sided 2 Warrior Eliminations. Other minor useful cards: Cocoon of Evolution was used as a stall card in an Moth Stall deck that was probably Tier 1. Tyrant Dragon was part of the Dragon Caller deck during the time the deck was relevant.

Rex might have a trash deck but he's actually champion, considering he would have won against Weevil if Weevil wasn't a cheat.

Weevil's cards are so bad, the new Giltia monster didn't feel like representing the card he lost to Joey!

if Weevil and Rex were the champions, and in the finals Weevil won with Basic insect + equip cards, you know how bad the meta had to be in the anime.

Gilasaurus was actually a main component in the old magical scientist deck. Turn one special summon Gilasaurus, play last will, sac Gila for catapult turtle and gg haha

then do rebecca. some cards that I think had some competitive play were: -gravity bind -scapegoat(a ton of play,currently limited) -imperial order(this was banned) -millenium shield(only in the very old school yugioh and card casual play) -I think the fire princess had a little play but not much.

Dzeef must've lived in a tournament scene where they didn't play Tyrant Dragon, because that card was almost everywhere in mine. Weevil didn't have jack, which is why his support in Legendary Duelists 2 (and season 1) was discarded.

What about Black Tyranno? I really wished that one was loved. It wasn't until it started the lore that it would begin being the start of making Ultimate Conductor Tyranno.

Can't wait for Dzeef to do the rest of the Orichalcos minions and Darts who have basically no real cards.

Tyrant dragon was an alright card that rex had. Also while it isn't competitive by any means, weevil's perfectly ultimate great moth can be used as a pretty good beater thanks to cocoon of ultra evolution

Ooh: for another multi-character episode, do the Dark Worlders. Scarr, Zure and Brron all dueled themselves, despite being cards, and only the latter limited himself to "Dark World" monsters.

Weevil gets a really good trap in duelist kingdom called Parasite Worm it is like Sakuretsu Armor and Magic Cyllinder put together. When your opponent's monster attacks Parasite Worm destroys it and its ATK is deducted from your opponent's lifepoints. Especially back when players only had 2000 LP this trap could have won him a lot of duels at the regionals but it was anime only. Insect Barrier and DNA Surgery was an effective lock in the 1st years of yugioh the early 2000s but it did not age well. Rex gets Balloon Lizard it was pretty good back in the day, Gian Rex and Gilasaurus yes, it seems like Weevil was better at the very start of yugioh but Rex has become better with more of his cards seeing competitive ply while Weevil has not aged as well. Weevil needs some new bugs he should have left the Moths in dueist kingdom and ran doomdozer. Get some bug beat down Insect Knight, Crosssword beetle, Chainsaw Insect, Aztekipede, use Howling Insect there are better bugs Weevil.

I can't believe you forgot to mention Larvae Moth. That card is beyond SSS tier, dude.

Imagine Rex/Hasslebarry using a modern dinosaur-deck. I think Hassleberry already had a good deck for an anime-character to begin with. His main problem was that the way he plays is too predictable. Meanwhile, Jaden summons Avian turn 1 in 99 % of all his duels...

I'll just say it, a lot of people bash Weevil for being annoying and all, but i love him. I think he's absolutely hilarious, probably one of the most entertaining characters in the series
