Im from Africa and India. African buffalo is very different from Asian water buffalo. I seriously doubt these buffalo came from Africa!lol They look like North Indian buffalo with the shorter horn and large amount of milk.
Wild African buffalo is completely different thing from Water Buffalo. The Romans got Water buffalos from Egyptians who got it from Indians. There are no wild African buffalos in Egypt.

Water buffaloes are native to south and south east asia. Maybe some buffalo were exported to the roman empire from India during the 2nd century bc. India and rome had a very thriving trade
Surprisingly, DW doesn't know where Water Buffalo comes from. Any morphological or official paper on origins will tell you that they come from the Indian Subcontinent.

Romans took a lot of things from the provinces around the empire not to mention the silk road the largest trade route at the time. I wouldn't be surprised someone bought the cattle and breed em and make products from said animals.
Water buffalo , produces A2 milk which why it tastes 'better' ( different ) , Non-native to 🇪🇺 mainland , these animas can only thrive in few areas of Southern 🇮🇹 due to climatic conditions.

Asian Water Bufalo have been living in lakes and rivers of Northern Greece for 2,500 years since when Xerxes transported his army's supplies across the Strymonas River, during the Persian wars. Most probably Romans found them there and not in Northern Africa .

Not from Africa. These aren't cape buffaloes. These are the Water Buffaloes from Indian Subcontinent and its the River Water Buffaloes (not the Swamp Water Buffaloes from East Asia). I know they have Murrah Breed in Italy too but they have very round tiny horns. These seem a mix.
These buffalos went from india to Middle east and then to Italy. DNA analysis will easily solve this problem. Compare Indian Buffalos and Italian Buffalos DNA>.
This Bubalus came from Asia, African Buffaloes are different. Also, Buffalo milk are still used in India to make dahi (Desi yoghurt) and paneer (Desi cottage cheese). Because, they are best quality. Nope,maybe thousands years ago they were imported but since you Indians couldn’t make anything good with them it’s better they were brought to Italy,the best mozzarella and cheese in general in the world.
High milk yielding Water buffalo are native to Indi-gangetic plains and marshes, the mozarella company can compare DNA with Indian water buffalo , dont forget that Greeks n Romans had a trade contacts via silk route and Red sea and midterranian, similarly ancient Egyptians migh have had trade relationship with India, definitely they r not from Africa, may be via Africa.

Mozzarella is a type of fresh cheese from italy, it’s a very ancient cheese first made by cow milk in XII century, is a fresh cheese so ist needs to be consumed in few days, in very hot country this would be difficult to conserve correctly.
