How Can a 4 pill do over 400w RMS & 1000w PEP via a Single Final Cobra 29 done by D-rail Joshua Daryl Black iNSANE!
How can this be possible? You normally need a Driver to achieve this output? Watch the video below...see for your self.

I mention a name of an amp builder where I purchased these Japanese Soldiers from(Toshiba 2879). I am in no way associated with this builder. I DO NOT know the full situation with him currently. All I know is, I have heard from a few people that they are unable to make contact with him for a long time now & he has projects pending with them. I don't want to mention his name in this thread, I do in the video. At the time he was running a business & staying current with orders as I knew up. This was 4 years ago.

Amplifier Information:
This is A Gatekeeper Built 4 transistor Amplifier with a Full Regulated AB(Not B) Bias Circuit.
Everything in this amplifier all the way down to the resistors ARE MATCHED within 0.000001 Percent. Meaning they are all the same values.
I recreated this same thing with another 4 pill regulated bias build that I did for Mr. BLACK that I built in a 2x8 Case with all metals, with I believe even better results.

RIP Mr. BLACK which was a special person to me and I hate with an absolute passion that I didn't get to know him better. I honestly think that I let him down with how long it took for me to get his build done, which bothered me dramatically. I did the best I could at the time.

@@udx-294tn5 that is great brother....really awesome! Yes I hate that it is so hard to obtain a Gatekeeper amp and I don't want to be known by that lol. I've heard they resell for so much because of how hard it is to get one but I hope to change that one I'm caught up. Get a lot more smaller amps out there.

I use a thermal diode circuit to bring bias up and down at temps....it's a sine diode circuit and cap

Yep that is actually what I have been doing lately(which people haven't seen the videos yet) but I've moved the diode to over ontop of the transistor to help with this. I'd love to do some test in the future so I can watch this happen....hotter it gets...lower the voltage goes/current instead of the opposite leading to thermal runaway.

I came back to watch again. Hello Mr. Gatekeeper I hope all is well your way. Beautiful work and you put your heart in it and keep improving. Thank you. I do have one question since I've been out so long. Before I tinker and smoke some original 2879's since they have improved the newer hg 2879c transistors they shouldn't be much difference between output and durability besides a few watts if I am correct with my research so far. The reason I asked is a friend asked me and really I'm not turning loose of any and hate to see him put a whole lot of money he could use in a box. When you get time and if you feel like addressing this or a suggestion I would be grateful. I don't want to tell anyone anything wrong or guess off speculations. Thanks again. 73's

HG2879 is 100w Pill same as Toshiba HG2879 is a 150w 12v pill just like Toshiba 2510 but instead of being 28v its still 12v. Standards HG 2879 have 4 RF Chips, 2879C Have 6 Chips Durability wise HG are not as rugged and can't handle as many volts as toshbias but if you dont run them hard and over volt them they will last you a loooong time!

@@1883GotDown Thank you Sir, I thought I was correct with the output and voltage being same or very close. I do have originals but I really didn't want a friend to pay today's price on something he can get a lot cheaper. Just wanted proper guidance. I'd say the originals have a certain market and leave it at why pay more when you really don't need to. I'm going through a hardship right now and honestly I'm trying to sell my guitars and gear to level out. Lost my mother, car took a dump to the dump and was without 6 months, health ect. I definitely will talk to you in a few months and as I said before I'm in no rush for something that is going to be perfect and I understand you have a life and other responsibilities. I look at it as who knows by the time I'm ready you might be caught up or close to it. Have a good night and keep doing what you do. Very tightly matched amps make big numbers matching is key to the Ballance of the circuit ...inpedence and capasatance change the input and output tune ..... It's all Ballance .. your using a cap to pull the ohm load back to reisinance

One more thing sir, is it possible to do the same swing mod to a Realistic TRC 427 used for the 29 ltd? If so, which jumper should I remove to place the 220uf cap and 100 ohm resistor?

Toshiba's are a novelity. The HG's will work just as good in any circuit. And they are cheap.

High gain transistors matched ...can produce these numbers but it's not often ...usually around 750 800 out of low drive radio ...... But it can happen exspecialy AB

That great working 4 pill. all you have to do for tempura compensation is put that diode on top off pill or right on heatsink . with thermal compound. I use 1N4997 on pill or heatsink. got diode number off a amp that had MRF 454 and that diode was pressed into heat sink. they just drilled a hole and pressed diode in. The 1N4997A was written around the top of ring. Them 3 terminal reg;s are great. most the tap is ground so I mount to cabinet or heat sink. no insulator needed. 317T is a adjustable . use bussing and thermal pad to mount. drops to 1.2V . The LT1083 is good to 7 amp. that to3P case. bigger thermal pad . I did get some low drop out 7812 1A reg. cost more . I use same brand of fans for my PC work. long barring life. my case and ATX supply is all Thermaltake brand. I got the 90% efficient supply with active PFC . Energy star compliant . If you have RF bother that fan. put foil tape on sticker and put small resistor to ground. like 3.3 Ohm 3W or so. I would to make me a 8 or 10 pill HG MRF 454 to run with 100watt radio. AB bias as well. some day maybe. running 4X572/B tubes now. love them . don't push over 800 PEP . RUSSIA tubes ! not the china junk. running since 2000. I have lots of tubes. CETRON NOS Etc. 73's

I went ahead and purchased hated 2 of the 1n4997A before texting this to you.....wow they are not cheap lol. Can't wait to try one out. But yes, I am now putting the diode ontop of the transistor...this was built about 4 years ago. I did notice, that the LM7812 would get warm so that is why I would put that clip on heatsink on it. It would have worked better of course on the heatsink. Like you said...wouldn't have to worry about an insulator because of the back being ground. Biasing is neat because there are so many way to get the voltage where you want it. One of these days I still want to use an op amp to use true thermal tracking. Im sure you seen sky wave 350 he is using that circuit he supposed designed him self. Pretty impressive. Using a 5v regulator, a pass transistor, then an op amp. He also uses 5v relays...im not sure why?

@@1883GotDown I haven't seen the diagram. that relay may be to cut bias if to hot. The RF transistor data book shows 1N4997 as well. can use 741 op amp . so many things you can do with that one. I got a circuit to track multi voltage reg the same with 1 control . can put together for more amps or leave independent. or inverse voltage . all tracking with 1 control. you could even use for drive limiting. now my AL 572 tube amp does bias tracking not fixed bias. 0 signal tubes almost cut off . bias goes up as drive goes up. really saves tube heat on SSB an CW. this is a Ameritron circuit. diagram on web cite. just a copy of manual that comes with AL-572 amp. anyways got a TRF receive amp that really works good. not much gain but no noise. copied from US signal corps SW radio front end. Tuned RF stage using a TUBE. I use on SW radio. but goes to 30 Mhz. I love playing with circuits 73's

Not sure what your question is? Are you saying that your following my video on the swing kit of a cobra 29? I have had loads of people say they have done the mod and worked perfect for them....I plan on making another video that is much better quality. Not sure what your question is but if it is if that radio will work well with that amo then of course it will.

I havent learned anything yet about impedance bumps on the Rf Line. I've never honestly heard that before. Got any documentation on or can explain this further... .ive always looked at them as being used for dc blocking and or coupling when needed for certain circuits. For example, the smaller the cap the less rf will go through in series that is why we use a small cap on the keying circuits.

I would absolutely love to do that and have plans on doing this in the near future once I am caught up. We will see less output from the incertion loss of the low pass filter but I want to design true LPF or BPF for this particular band which I don't even know if someone has took the time to do that before...it could be for the very avid SSB Operators so they know they are using an amp that has a very low harmonic figure with great suppression. The a bias circuit the devices stays on all time...with the ab the cycle is shared 180 degrees off and on..... Now there is a class D in Wich the frequency is switched from low to high frequency so fast .... There is also H class C class Wich we use in comp am setting ..I prefure the A B bias for the efficiency.. but I guarantee ya class D will be back!!!

The regulator circuit protects the bias ...keeps the bias stable at load ...to were if it wasn't regulated or t would jump up and down ... At the bias ... U know what your doing sir !!!

YOU GOT IT MAN!!! I may know what I am doing but you know what your talking about. Yep that Voltage is stable so the Current is stable and not changing. Less drive allows more output....more output with less drive lol...2 ways to say the same thing.

It only keeps the supply voltage stable, regulating the bias circuit is a whole other deal.

I have been watching your vid for a long timei built one 2 or 3 times and was only able to get 300 peak on hg2879 and that was coping the toshiba scematics and i know the hg is a little diff i even failed at the erf 9530 mosfet built got 0 out of that lol and these are for personal use not for resell i help friends here in my town since im the only radio repair guy here and im here in yuma arizona they call me the scorpion on am and 727 southwest yum az when shoot skip i just need a hand in learning how to read the data sheets on these bipolar transisters everybody tells me when i ask can u teach me they say all the info is on the data sheet

@@Warlock485 yeh but the problem is that the datasheet are in another language that you have to learn to be able to make sense or it lol lol lol.... the E R F mosfets are pretty cool.... I have a 1x4x16 with them over here and I plan on replacing all the 7530 with the new ones that you mentioned. That is a cool amp man. But yes to squeeze all the output out of a 2 pill circuit it is all about the fine turning of it..making sure all the power makes it in and all of it makes it out. I look at the tuning shunt caps as valves to get the pressure just right so that all the power makes it in and out. Now u know how I remembered your name....it was from my comments lol.

Regulated biasing does not mean using a LM7812, 7805 etc. It is more about regulating the quiescent current as the pill heats up. What you are showing is in no way capable of any regulation aside from the the voltage that feeds the circuit.

I'd have to agree with you on that....when im using the term regulated biasing I am only referring to fixing the issue that some have with attempting to run amps with biasing circuits that are not regulated on the voltage side. I agree with you on a Current Regulated Circuit which would take more safisticsted circuitry like an op amp etc.. to keep the current Regualted no matter what temperature the transistors are at. Inwas speaking on the voltage side....maybe I should put the word voltage in front of that. Thanks for the comment bud....I can tell you know your stuff!

Brother that is a single final radio on a regulated biased amplifier. Im not where near over driving that amplifier.
