This was a Godsend! Our 7 1/2 month old dobe pup (just coming in heat...we got her at 4 months). Sweetest dog we have had in 30 years ... she is full of piss and vinegar tho. Not a bad girl but nuts in the house. Not an aggressive thing for us but it has been challenge. She is crated ...then outside to get her yayas out...but I understand the whole process in her mind better now. I don't feel bad about the crate now. She is crated at night in bedroom and there is another crate in kitchen. I am getting the need of exercise more and more. Grateful we have over acre to get all that excess energy out! I am not second guessing myself now!! She isn't bad and we aren't bad for using crate.

My GSD, Anzo, grabbed a mouthful of grapefruit one day. I think he anticipated ice cream! 😂 It was entirely my fault, but it has really funny!

Personally I would calm the 7 month old dog by giving the dog plenty of exercise to wear the dog out. And teach them to lie down. But if he or she's not tired from the exercise they got means more walking. The dog just need more training regarding taking food. Don't leave food out unattended until the dog is trained.

I hope the letter writer meant 2 months and not 1 month as to when she got this pup! Dogs do learn so much from mother and littermates! I have a singleton pup (sole survivor of a New Year’s Eve Whelping disaster) and I can honestly say she is the most difficult pup I have ever raised! I wonder if he has any videos on raising singleton pups? I hope I never have another singleton!

Snatching food from the table and running away with it to a hiding place to eat it is only natural behavior for a dog. The human, supposedly smarter than the dog, needs to think ahead, prevent the natural dog behavior so you don't have to "punish" the dog for doing what comes naturally. I hear of many "dog in the house" or "dog with people" problems that seem to be people expecting the dog to fulfill the role of a baby or child. A dog is a dog, not a human. We invite them to join our family (pack) but they will not have the learning or relational capacity of a child. To expect them to be a child is unfair to the dog.
