How to find CHEAP Office Space for Therapists.
In this week's video, I talk about a bunch of creative ways newbie therapists can secure office space that isn't your typical 12-month-sign-on-the-dotted line-gimme-all-your-money lease. There are a TON of options available for therapists who are starting out -- you just have to know where to look!
If you're already in private practice, comment below and tell me how you found your first office space.

When I wanted to start my practice, I reached out to a local mom that I knew had a practice nearby. I wore my baby in a carrier and we walked around the same block 10x while I picked her brain on starting a practice. She asked if I'd want to sublet her office (for a ridiculously cheap $10 an hour). I still needed to panel with insurance and all of that, but 3 months later I picked up the keys and used her space. I was there for 4 years and actually leased my own space this past September. I actually sublease that space, now. I love the advice of networking and putting yourself out there. If I never would've FB messaged that woman, who knows what would've happened!

Wow that's amazing! I'm just looking into private practices now. I've been working for spas and chiros, so now I need my own space. Thank you for this!

Great tips Laura! I found my office space by asking for space to rent in my local therapist FB group. I shared the days and times that I was looking to rent, and I received several replies. I met with each therapist, and I picked a space that fit my needs. I rent by the hour, but I've also paid a monthly fee too. I found therapists to be really willing to rent space. It's a win for everyone. You get to start a practice, and they are able to subsidize their rent.

Found mine on craigslist...and that was 2 years ago. because of that and how my practice has been growing, I've been able to afford to bring another clinician on board.

Welllllll. I'm working from home in an upper room that is super cozy and my clients seem to like it. I imagine not everyone wants to come to a therapist's home but it's working for now. I do phone consultations so I have an idea who is coming and so far so good.

I googled therapists that were in the area I wanted to practice, picked up the phone and called to ask if I called rent from them when they weren't there.....one of them said yes:)

Hi Laura! Love the fire - nice touch. I'm starting out by "office sharing" with a colleague of mine who went through group supervision with me and got her full license and started her private practice a year ago. We've stayed in touch as she has gone through the process. I've helped her network and sent her referrals. We've also been invaluable consultants to each other due to our shared social work training and diverse field experience. She lets me use her office on Saturdays and Sundays to see clients in exchange for me restocking office supplies and cleaning-up after myself. It's working really well for both of us! She is also helping me credential and organize details. It's a Myers-Briggs dream.

Great tips! I found my first office through a colleague. She was moving to a new office, but was still under a group lease at her old office. She agreed to sublease to me and I was only required to pay her when I saw a client. Had to furnish the office (very basic) but it was a great deal.

I completed my fieldwork at a private practice and then offerred to do some of their admin work part time while I saw clients the rest of the time in their space. Eventually I built up my caseload to the point that I had to "retire" from the admin work and when another associate went down to less than part-time, I inherited her office and was able to change the decor to how I wanted (a Harry Potter theme that my ideal clients love!)

I decided to rent from therapists who already have a space set up in 2 different geographic areas. In the one area I found her in the ads on Psychology Today on the ads listed in the peercast when you log in. The other I found with a therapist who shares office space with my massage therapist. I decided to rent by the day.

Can someone link psychology today peer cast? I’ve heard so much about it but can’t seem to find it.

My first supervisor provided me with an office and I still there after 5 years in private practice. I did find space in a different city in a church that was affordable but not located very well, so I had to let that go. Always looking though, for more spaces.

I know this reply is from 2 years ago but thank you. I wouldn’t have thought about renting an office space from a church. I really like this idea!
