As to your comments about the RC4WD R7 transmission that were spot on about their listing choices. I purchased one and installed it into my RC4WD Trailfinder 2 LWB. It is very well made except the gearing is exposed so it flings grease so I will be fabricating a cover for it in the future. I have only had it in for 3 days so we will see how it maintains. So you can install it in place of the of the R3 transmission and then link it to the transfer case as shown in their pics on the site. Or you can install in place where the transfer case goes and then install your driveshafts directly to it which I chose to do. In doing so I removed a lot of weight from the rig up top. I was able to remove the battery tray, R3 trans, transfer case and the mount. I didn’t custom-made a one piece tray behind and next to the steering servo before the transmission and motor to hold my battery, my receiver, and my furitek python X esc

I hope Traxxas brings the interior for all TRX-4 Bodies....

Anything horizon has touched in the last 20 years has gone downhill. Kinda feels like these days we have two options, horizon or traxxas. There are others but those two brands seem to do their best to squash them away.

Lunsford was one of the leading aftermarket Titanium manufacturers in the offroad game. They were one of a handful making parts for a variety of big companies. Kelly the owner chose to close the doors when he retired rather than sell it (though I think some effort was made) but in the end, Lunsford ended its legacy run. The same was true with Novak. A longstanding electronics leader in RC, they too chose to close.

😆 Orlandoo's are fantastic. I get that most people don't have the patience to work on them but they're extremely well designed and performance is outstanding for such a small truck. They're a riot to crawl around on your coffee table. Having said that, The Furitek RTR version is ridiculously expensive for sure.

Associated I think has been on of those brands that has seemed to lose focus and relevance since it was sold in '05 to Thunder Tiger. I can remember as a kid, Associated was the brand, the only American brand to stand up to the Japanese companies like Yokomo and Kyosho until Losi came around, then it was the big battle between them. Now that the bashing side of the hobby has pretty much separated from racing and racing isn't so much the focus anymore, Associated seems kinda lost and that got amplified when TT bought them. Their race vehicles seem to still be on par with other racers but they just can't seem to understand how to transition into the basher market that brands like Traxxas and Arrma have built. Then you have Element that started off as an Associated but now is it's own thing but you still have some rebranded TT 1/12 trail trucks sold as Associated.. They can still make good stuff, they just seem to have bad problems with branding and developing new ideas. Like they're always a step behind and a bit confused.

I started the hobby with a Duratrax Evader rtr, the og version. Fitted with a Novak rooster and a speed gem motor. No idea what is around from those companies except Ive seen Duratrax and their tires. 84 new rc announcements this year!

Back in the 80s, if you were into pan car racing, Bolink was the #1 name in the game. They have been under the RJSpeed name for a long time now. I don’t have any clue how popular pan car racing is anymore.

One thing I liked about the old SCX24 electronics, was the power level switch. Having a low/med/hi switch was great for kids, and also doing challenges with buddies. On an easy course we would limit ourselves to. Low or med to add a layer of challenge.

Hand Brothers Off Road built the first CMS I ever installed on my 10.1. I heard they became HandBros RC when they offered rc "fab-tabs". Only to fade off into the sunset. SMS fills that void nicely. I also miss a few that came and went but didn't change hands. DirtModeler and Fungi RC were some of the OG 1/24 vendors back in the Losi Micro days on RCC. Who can forget Blue Monkey and his titanium goodness? Plenty more I'm sure.....

It would be nice if those brakes can be adapted to use as front brakes on 2wd rigs like buggies.

O’Donell and Duratrax. I loved using O’Donell nitro fuel. Duratrax had awesome durable lipo batteries. I still have some that I bought years ago. They still function great.

118 RTR’s Bolink, turned in RJ Speed. Seems to be doing about the same. Great memories of Legends parking lot racing at the LHS growing up with the Bolink cars.

I did some research on the R7 transmission. It looks like a completely different setup from the R3. Other than the obvious difference of a billet case, there is no "external" spur. It's inside the transmission case on the same shaft as gear one. This allows the transmission to be narrower and position the motor lower than the R3. This also means the spur, which is Delrin in the R3, is now steel like the rest of the gears, so it should be stronger/more durable. The gearing is different between the two and the R7 includes a big 24T pinion. I suspect the R7 is a slightly faster transmission, but it's hard to say without more information. This seems like a great improvement to me. It's very puzzling how RC4WD puts this much effort into R&D, only to not follow-through with proper marketing.

That Yikong 4106pro costs around $205USD from where i live (Hong Kong) ...it comes with a lightkit+locking unlocking diffs and the brake turn....the SE version is around $130 and it have manual (by hand like a switch on the axle) locking unlocking diffs

it is the CT8A radio they have just released. it is a collaboration with HotRC. I have one - it is really good and amazing value ($40 with haptic feedback, colour screen and an 8 channel receiver with excellent gyro, RSSI and battery voltage feedback to transmitter). Rlaarlo is also bringing out a 1/10 monster truck carbon roller that will be in my stable ASAP. Just unboxing a Corally Muraco...6S madness here we come

My guess is 127 RTRs. I miss Novak. I think Team Associated took a bit of a hit when they were bought by Thunder Tiger. They gradually lost their pure racing pedigree and became a recreational brand. I'm not saying it hurt them in the market, but it definitely changed their path in RC.

Being the one that got the closest prediction for last year's RTR'S, I predict there will be 111 RTR's in the year 2024. The more, the better. Keep it up Josh, and thank you for giving us great RC content.

That Rlaaro radio is a great radio. The price on it with the included receiver (7 channel with gyro) is crazy cheap!

Kyosho has traded hands at least three times in the past ten years. Always sold to a different private equity firm while maintaining the name. They have been on a steady decline until last year when things started to turn around.

No red interior for the classic TRX4 trucks? I guess that's why the clear is there... Love me a classic blue interior though. My own 84 F150 has blue interior and I wouldn't want it any other way.

Yikong calling it a "tank turn" is misleading because their wheels cannot move in opposite directions like a tank could. It's more like a skid-steer or side-to-side dig function. I don't see their feature as helping reduce turning radius any more than a regular dig unit. It certainly can't do a zero-radius turn.

Venom when they used to do a crawler, and batteries. Now I think they are gone completely. I remember when Arrma came out in 2009 and it was basically cop cats of the rustler, bandit, slash, and also resembled HPI in a way but they have come along way since it was bought out by horizon.

HPI was better under original ownership. Not much development under new ownership. I believe it is under third owners now out of UK importer. Current quality is good. Maybe I have not given them much time but not a lot of stores carrying them.

The only one that I know of is axial going from them to horizon hobby. I haven't been in the RC hobby very long and they appear to be in my opinion doing great. I also like the 1/24 scale; because my grandson is able to drive them around our house.

Going back here but Bolink, Duratrax (when they made cars), Novak, and Trinity which is owned by Horizon now like Duratrax. Pretty sure Bolink and Novak are just memories.

I don't think I could pay that for the RTR Orlandoos from Furitek but I have to disagree about how hard they are to work on. Except for the lights they aren't difficult to work on at all IMO. BTW what happened to your ear? You appear to be bleeding.

So many brands have been taken over, and closed down. My buddy loved Novak hahaha. Venom (I did like them) I really hope HPI continues they're come back. I think axial has gotten sort of worse since horizon.... they just aren't what they used to be. Losi was massive, I think losi stated the same... I feel all in all losi may be horizons best seller... so they dont mess with them. Even proline has sort of gotten a little worse... Not enough to make a big deal of...

If the VRD has 37% OD with the trans gears 21%/portal gears 16%, then how does the Carbon have 24% with the trans gears 6%/portal gears 16%? That would be 22%, not 24%.
