There's always been such a stigma about anything game improvement related. The way I see it, take as much help as possible to make your game more consistent

I know testers generally like to keep clubhead speed the same when doing these tests but in my view that's a mistake. The greater shaft length of the GI 7 iron means it will generate more clubhead speed, so to test the clubs as they'd play on the course you should allow for and include the increased clubhead speed in your test data, otherwise it won't be performing as it would on the course and carry and spin will be down. Re your play with the Pro model iron, your swing wasn't necessarily just on point during the tests, blades aren't as hard to hit as the marketing departments would have us believe. I'm a mediocre mid handicapper and only play blades, I still get round the course okay and enjoy my golf. And the reason why GI 7 irons are stronger lofted is so that the golfers who try them think that they're hitting the new 7 iron further than their current model, it's just a big con. But the con is near the end of it's limits now as a 6 iron is probably as much as most golfers can put in their bags, because at 24 degrees it's the same loft as an old 3 iron. And the number of wedges required is now ridiculous!

Some fantastic points here! Especially around the marketing of G.I irons 😊 I will say though, both irons I tested do have the same shaft length 😊 With all that said, I do thing there are some that should be using G.I irons - a slower swing speed with issues getting the ball in the air, GI irons are a great option 😊 I personally didn’t realise how forgiving and easy to hit a pro/blade iron was. I was genuinely surprise I was able to produce better results with the pro iron than the GI. So I think you’re right… blade / pro irons are being made more forgiving now days and perhaps less people actually need GI irons! 😊 great comment! Thank you!

@@TKGolfYT Sorry, I didn't realise you'd got the same length shaft in each club, GI shaft lengths generally match the loft of the club, so a 28° GI shaft length will be the same as a 28° blade shaft length, even though the numbers on the bottom are different.

Recently I was fit for new clubs and the fitter suggested trying a differnt ball to increase the amount of spin. Sure... why not... as I am in a hitting bay getting fit for new irons. My normal gamer is the Titleist Pro V1 X, which I really enjoy. The fitter had me hit the Srixon Z-Star Diamond golf ball (an image of a small black diamond printed on the ball). Apparently this ball was introduced in 2023 but was difficult to find. In 2024, it is more widely available. Anyway, I was surprised to see the spin rate increase compared to the Pro V1 X. On the course the Srixon Z-Star diamond performed well. It would be interesting to see you test different golf balls using the same club using the same metrics that you used in this video.

You might be in luck 🤔 I did a video comparing 5 different Srixon balls against the standard prov 1 😊 the z-star range was included! 😊 it was more of a price to quality comparison video. But I gathered some data with a few different clubs 😊 think it might be worth a watch for you 💪🏻

The GI iron offset and low loft can lead to huge pulls and hooks and draws that make the game difficult at times. The pro iron can lead to more controlled shots and better turf interaction.

That could explain why I miss left so much.. 🤔🤔

That is very tru I’m a 12 handicap now used to be 9-10 but don’t play as much but I just switched from Wilson cb irons to Wilson staff model pure blades simply for the reason of feedback and the ball goes exactly where your swing goes I’m a believer in changing your swing to accommodate a players iron

That’s interesting 😊 I think I need to have a play around with a few more irons and not to assume blades or pro irons won’t be good for me 🤔

Even though they don’t advertise the game improvement irons this way. What do you think about the idea they are made for players that don’t have a negative AoA? So the decrease in static loft is to help get the dynamic loft of a SCOOPER of the golf ball close to the same dynamic loft?
@TKGolfYT
@TKGolfYT 5 месяцев назад
That’s an interesting thought 🤔 I hadn’t considered that to be honest. I think it’s known that irons should have a negative AoA and that everyone who’s had a lesson would be coached in doing that, so manufacturers might not consider the need to factor in AoA in their design. I think it’s speed that stops high handicappers getting the ball in the air 🤔

@@TKGolfYT I think we would both be amazed at how many high handicap golfers don’t have a negative AoA. I played for 5 years before I had a negative AoA

How far does Evolution in a golf club really improve it over its production run? I ask this as the owner of 2008 Titleist AP1 with high launch shafts. On the range I compared the 7 iron with that of a final generation AP1. What difference did 10 years and 5 generations make? Be great if u could find out

That’s a very interesting question 🤔 I have thought about a video along those lines - comparing old clubs to new clubs! I haven’t got the answers for you right now, but I’ll work on putting a video together and add this question to my list of video ideas 😊 thank you!

I'm surpised that you're a mid handicapper given a 90 mph 7 iron swing speed, I would imagine that would translate to a 5-9 Cap - thanks for the interesting comparison

Thank you for your vote of confidence 😊 my issues are off the tee and the direction I hit the ball 😂 I think I’ve got single figures in me, just need to dial in a few things this year 😊 If you’re subscribed, hopefully you’ll see my handicap come down and how I go about! 😊 got a plan this year 💪🏻
