Played with them today for 9 holes. Pin hunted with them. I am able to swing so much smoother with them and was more comfortable hitting the numbers (yards) I wanted. I don't care what the lofts are or that I am hitting them further blah blah blah. Figure out what iron hits the yardage you need and use it. I am not worried what others are hitting into greens. Take the ego out of it and you have an extremely forgiving set of irons that allows you to swing smoother and if need be "step on it" and hit it further if between clubs. I highly encourage others to try them. The yardages are not inconsistent with these. The ones that say this have an inconsistent swing. Period. I am a 9hc currently and can see going lower with these. JMO edit: also, I have no problem holding greens with these irons. One hop and stop.

You hit the nail on the head for these. I've played them for a few months now, and as long as I put a consistent, smooth swing on the ball, I always get great trajectory and very consistent distance with each club. Yes, the lofts are jacked, but I can count on each iron going almost exactly the distance I need, even with a smooth, easier swing - plus the ball flight doesn't seem too low to me. They fly very nearly as high as my old irons which had almost 6 degrees of higher loft. And you're right about holding greens for sure. I had to account for plenty of run-out with my old irons, but these stop on a dime for me. Just yesterday I hit a 5 iron on a long par 3 and felt like I caught it a bit thin, but the ball still stuck pin high.

I play blades, that’s what you want to be using. Flight feel and spin is unmatched. I don’t know why more people don’t play them. Never get flyers because lofts are traditional too so they always hit the number

@@derekhellender5252 this is for ultimate game improvement irons. No blades here to consider. Again, I don’t hit any flyers with my Mavs. Just pick the number, select the club, hit it where you need to with the Mavs for me. I am extremely happy with them. My favs thus far and I have tested a ton. They are very underrated and should be given a shot for others. I’m only a single digit and wanting to get further down lower. These will help me reach that goal. Already dropped 2 since I purchased them. Sleeper

Great video 👍 I Recently sold my blades I bought with my heart rather than my head for a set of Wilson D9 irons with strong lofts like these clubs. The blades were so crisp and pure to hit but my yardage loss with being true lofts was hard to take as never experienced it before as always used game improvement irons, just never realised it as wasn't massively clued up on clubs and the differences when started playing golf. The results in my shots varied so much more when I didn't hit out of centre dropping from 150yards to 125 yards with a 7 iron.. The Wilson D9s are on the other end of the spectrum to my blades I had but I consistently get 150-160 yards with my 7 iron now, even when I don't swing that well and swinging up on the ball with my hands rather than down and through the ball with my weight and hands leading the ball and that's all the matters at my level I guess. Ultimately lessons and better swing is better than buying clubs like these but some of us just want the easy way 😆

I bought the 6 thru pw with graphite shafts, I’m 62 and have some arthritis so the graphite helps the vibration issues as does the urethane micro spheres. I’ve had these for a year and I love them. Any iron, especially ones with less forgiveness is going to vary in distance with strike location on the face. I’m glad for the forgiveness so on a bad strike I’m still carrying trouble in front of the green and once you learn your distances per club they’re like any other clubs whatever the lofts. They help me hit the ball high and I don’t have any trouble holding greens so for me there is only positives.

I golfed pretty much every day as a kid over the summer holidays from 10-15. I took a bit of a break from golfing and picked it back up three years ago still using the 30 year old irons. I got the maverik irons last week 5-A and I cannot believe how far these irons hit. I flew almost every green with these but the shots were beautiful. Made me feel like a tour pro. If you purchase these clubs you need to go to the range with your old clubs and see what you’re hitting with these maveriks. I’d say it’s almost a safety concern with how far these suckers send the ball but once you know how far they’re going you’ll be able to pin hunt with these all day long

To each his own , depends on how much time you have to practice , I play blades in traditional lofts ,I don’t need a 7 iron going 200 , I hit the ball out of center more often than not , but it takes practice and that requires time , if your busy in life and time is lacking clubs that have a larger sweet spot are going to be better for your game and score card , the simple truth is if you want to be better at golf you need control over distance and flight , consistent distance , if you want to be consistent you need to be hitting the same area of the face each time to get the same results . One thing for sure if you have the time ,blades will teach you how to find the middle of the face . Blades give you exactly what you put in ,nothing more or less . Golf is a game ,we play for enjoyment not money whatever makes it fun for you .

I use Mizuno blades. Although I really like the idea of hitting the ball farther, I find that these sort of clubs have a sweet spot and a super sweet spot. I noticed that when I bought XR Pros a few years back. I’d hit a few shots the distance I was expecting, then, out of the blue, I’d hit one dead center and it would go over 10 yards longer. Now if you’re a golfer that doesn’t play a whole lot, then these clubs are super awesome for you. But if you’re a lower hdcp player, your concern is how to get the approach shot as close as possible to the pin. It’s a little difficult to do that when at any time you could dead center one and fly completely over the green. I’d like a club with the same consistency in distance as a blade but nice and forgiving like these. This is very difficult to do, so I sacrifice distance for accuracy and just play the white tees….hehe. I even tried the Apex, but unless you upgrade the shafts, you end up getting the Elevate 95, which defeats the whole purpose of accuracy. When I use Elevate 95s the ball could literally go anywhere. So…..we struggle on.

Bought the standard SW - 4 set two months ago before I saw this video, and the lofts definitely take some getting use to. Practicing with a range finder and recording your shots will help. The 7 iron seems to be really juiced, as I'm picking up 20 yards + compared to my old Mizuno MP 52s. I've added a 60 degree lob wedge, and thinking about carrying a 52 gap as my 3 hybrid is now obsolete. I would have gone with the pro models, but limited supplies for lefties. They're growing on me, and I am able to reach greens which were previously out of reach. So all good!

I'm thinking on getting a 4 iron in Mavrik as a driving iron. I hit the 7 iron just to compare with my JPX 919 Tours. Mavrik 7 iron had a smash facor at 1.44 and 20-25 meter longer carry compared to my 7 iron at 36 deg with a smash factor at 1.3. I want control and consistency more than distance, and I like traditional lofts over strong lofts. But for a driving iron I would pick up a Mavrik 4 iron.

You are correct, but there is another way to look at it. Crossfield used to carry 2 6-irons because 1 was 4 degrees stronger. Because the shaft was shorter than the 5-iron from his Titleist set at the time, he could control it better. So, instead of comparing this 7-iron to your 7-iron, why not test this 7-iron against your 5 or 6 iron. If you can control this 7-iron better than you can control your current 5 or 6 iron, then it is something to consider. Remember, in this day and age of golf, the number on the bottom of the club is irrelevant. It is all about gapping. With today's clubs, you could carry a 36 degree "true loft" 7-iron, a 31 degree 7-iron and a 27 degree Mavrik 7-iron and that could cover the traditional 5-7 iron distances. Who knows...for those who have a tough time with mid irons, it could help. The main point being, don't limit your choices just because it has a "7" on the bottom of the club.
@LWG
@LWG 3 года назад
As much as I completely agree with your theory. The fact that “hot” low spin bullet and inconsistency of distance in prevelant in these kind of irons is what puts me off doing that. I don’t care about numbers but I do care about consistency. However saying that. The 4 iron in this set may be an option to replace my 2 iron as it’s slightly shorter so may be better controlled.
@bradfordcotta5925

Hi mate, great video and insight into some of today’s game improvement clubs. I’m pushing 60 now and had same clubs for over 20 years but played only occasionally for the last 10. Have a bit more time now and watching you and the other guys on the tube have given me a renewed passion for the game. Recently got fitted for some new irons and went for the Wilson staff D7’s, mainly because my swing is a little slower and I feel I can swing a bit smoother and have more control without losing distance. Also I didn’t want to spend £800+ at my age. I don’t have an official handicap at the minute but am playing to about 16 and hopefully these clubs will at worse keep me there or maybe better. Yes they are strong but I have 5 to gap, PW at 43 gap wedge at 48 then I have a 54 and a 60. Love your vids, just wish you had more of them. Love to Victoria and the baby, hope they are well. 🏌️‍♂️

You’d just have to view each club as one stronger than the number on the bottom. AW is really a pw, Pw is really a 9i, 9i is really an 8i and etc. I can’t understand why companies keep “cranking” up the lofts on their irons. It’s basically just them giving you the placebo effect by telling you that you hit a 7 iron 180-200 yards instead of 140-160 yards. I hit my x20 7 iron about 150~160 on good strikes.

Do the lofts matter if the length of the shaft is still 7 iron length and the lauch is high enough with a steep land angle.....most of us dont generate enough speed to get backspin etc.....that said i just got rid of a set of Cobra SZ irons....permance incredible.....but i cant stand the look.....i thought i could get used to it but i couldn't....so i think for me its a compromise best performance i can get out of a head i like.... @LWG
@LWG 3 года назад
Robin C there are ways to generate speed, lighter shafts being one of them. A good fitting will get you the best of everything. For some it’s a compromise but spin is king. Lofts definitely matter. One length clubs being a prime example to counter your question, all different lofts but 7 iron length. It’s about producing the right launch, spin and distance for a persons particular swing and speed.

What is on the bottom of the club is not what worries me or how far an iron goes.I think there are far more people out there using forged clubs just to the feed the ego who would be far better suited to using a more forgiving club.

The problem with club reviews of game improvement irons is that the reviewer be it you, Rick Shiels or Mark Crossfield don't swing the club like me or the person the club is designed to help. What i as a high handicapper want to see is someone like me review the club as i would find it beneficial to hear what someone like me thinks of the sound, feel or forgiveness because i relate to it more .
