How Carnatic musicians order groceries 😂 - ft. Padma Bhushan Smt. Sudha Ragunathan and Abby V! My India trip would’ve been incomplete without meeting this legend of a musician, and a collab for social media was of course a must! We had such a BLAST doing this collab in Chennai!
Here are the songs we sang to order our ingredients 😂:
1. Milk 🥛: Paal Vadiyum Mugam - Raga Nattaikurinji
2. Bananas 🍌: Pazham Neeyappa - Raga Shanmukhapriya
3. Butter 🧈: Vennai Thinna Chinna - Raga Kamboji
4. Coffee ☕: Kapi Madhuripuna - Raga Kapi

What a creativity. Ever since Inreco released paal vadiyum mugam cassette 30 years ago , it has been such an unforgettable experience.. the song has simply become synonymous with Sudha .... Real miracle that even after 30 years you sing it exactly the same way as in the erstwhile cassette...

I remember when I was 10 or 11 years old, my father used to take me to Sudha Ragunathan concert. That Time she was pregnant with her child. We got the opportunity to sit on the front rows, I used to watch her big fat belly. She sang for 3 hours. I still remember that event. Now I am 43 years old. THAT MEMORY IS STILL FRESH IN MY MIND. If I think now, how much will power she had with baby in her stomach, sitting in one place for hours and singing. That Time, listening to her soothing voice, I slept like a baby in the auditorium. I was 10 years old that time. Her voice was like a lullaby to me. Can't help 🙂🤷‍♀️

For the pedigree smt sudha raghunathan boasts of and at the level of a sangita kalanidhi, this is shallow and a very poor attempt at trying to be musically funny. It just is a shallow moment, and thats what causes the pain. But gow does it matter to them. A 1000 likes and 2 dislikes is the usual equation 😭

You do make a point Sir. Classical traditions have to be protected from distortions and undesirable adulterations, innocent or insidious, in their form, spirit, purity, and content. However, we can trust such stalwarts as these two who breathe for their art, to be aware of that serious imperative, and keep their beloved genre from getting sullied, while at the same time subtly helping the cause by popularising it, so that it does not die away, or get obscured in this age of giga-volume bombardment of online information, can we not? 🙏

@@jmahalekshmymenon9309 sorry sir/madam. We can agree to disagree. I find videos such as these as the very problem or ill you hv mentioned in the first part of your post. Undesirable adulteration, insidious, impure and low on content. And it doesnt instill any trust (for me) in such stalwarts and their self proclaimes guardianship of an art form which has been nourished, protected and preserved for generations.. infact i only see then as slowly eroding the art form and lowering the standards of their delivery, in the name of popularising. At the end of the day, its an art form. We all hv equal rights to like or dislike a rendition or a musician or both. One cant argue which is right and which is wrong. So....
